About this property

"Stunning Place...Ideal for Scotland and Northumberland..."

The Cottage By The Sea is a delightful, cosy, and comfortable traditional Fisherman's cottage in the seafront village of Partanhall, on a spectacular part of Scotland's Coast. The Cottage offers spectacular views around the bay and beyond. You can often spot Seals and Sea Birds and an occasional Dolphin or Whale. It is well located to explore the rolling Scottish Borders plus Northumberland and to visit Edinburgh and beyond:
....."A beautiful, peaceful place to stay in a stunning location"...
The space
This Coastal cottage has been offering a warm welcome to holidaymakers for many years... Many visitors return each year...
There are three bedrooms, a Double, a Single and a Twin, sleeping five in comfort and each with sloping ceilings and wooden beams, providing a traditional, seaside cottage feel. The open plan kitchen with dining area directly overlooks the sea and centres around a farmhouse dining table and a substantial woodburner, ideal for warming fingers and toes after an invigorating day by the sea. There is a cosy living room seating five in comfort, with an open fire and more stunning sea views. The cottage is both fully refurbished and full of original character...

...."A peaceful retreat in a beautiful part of one of the most beautiful countries on the planet..."
Guest access
The virtually unchanged fishing hamlet of Partanhall has been here for around 250 years, nestled between the North Sea and the spectacular rocky cliffs of the Scottish East Coast. The Cottage By the Sea is accessed via a quiet Private road,...unique on this part of the coast. You can drive down the cliff road or along from the Harbour and park directly by the cottage.

The quiet "Secret Harbour" was built by the "Lighthouse Stevensons" and is the first on the Scottish Coast coming up from the Border. It has a half dozen working crab and lobster boats which can be seen leaving and arriving on the Tide. The tidal range is up to 5 metres, depending on the season, offering an ever changing coastal scene...(check out the Burnmouth paintings of James Whitelaw Hamilton, one of the Glasgow Boys who came here frequently to paint in the 19th century)...
Other things to note
All bed linen and towels included. All power included. Starter packs for Open fire and Woodburner included.

Hi. Welcome to the hidden gem that is Partanhall. In our humble opinion this is a very special place and visitors are warmly welcome to be "captured by the magic" of Partanhall... Our coastal cottage has been offering a welcome to holidaymakers for more than twenty years...We have many return visitors... We are based nearby in the same row of Fishing Cottages but not right next door... We can leave you in complete peace or we can suggest lots of things to do and see in the area...either way we highly recommend the Scottish Borders and North-Northumberland as a place to have a special Holiday...

Why they chose this property

Burnmouth, Scotland, United Kingdom
The Cottage By The Sea is ideally located for the Scottish Borders, North Northumberland and Edinburgh:
The nearest larger settlement is the ancient Fishing town of Eyemouth with its local shops, pubs, restaurants and some famous fish and chips and ice cream...
Explore the local area: Visit historic Berwick-upon-Tweed with its complete Elizabethan Town Walls. Venture to the Holy Island of Lindesfarne (check the tides!) and Bamburgh Castle, St. Abbs or the Farne Islands. Visit the historic Border Towns of Kelso, Melrose, Jedburgh, Peebles etc. Go diving from Eyemouth or St Abbs and surfing at Coldingham Bay.

With the historic and cultural delights of Edinburgh only 40 minutes away by rail or less than an hour by car there is no shortage of things to do from The Cottage By The Sea...

What makes this property unique

Getting around
The Cliffs and Seashore at Partanhall are all designated Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), noted for their geology and flora and fauna. There are walks north and south on the rocky beach directly from The Cottage By The Sea to view the noted geology and the extensive wild life...oystercatchers, redshanks, heron, seals and a variety of butterflies.
Burnmouth Village itself also stands on the Berwickshire Coastal Path. You can walk out from the Cottage to join sections of the path and return via local buses from Berwick to the south and St Abbs and Eyemouth to the north.
Berwick itself stands on the East Coast Main line with frequent trains to Edinburgh and Newcastle and beyond...
