Shh, don't tell anyone how awesome this place is.

  • 5 of 5

Wow, what a nice place, perfect location, excellent beach, wonderful house, well stocked. My only complaint is that I didn't find this place earlier in life. The owner was easy to deal with for payment etc. The place was nice and clean with good quality linens and towels. It is decorated more like a home than a beach house, so it made it feel more relaxing and inviting. My elderly parents & in-laws felt spoiled by the elevator and ramp access to the beach although they didn't absolutely need it. My brother and I have school age children who played in the mild surf and on the beach for hours each day. We also collected numerous sharks teeth in the sand. The top of the ramp has a hot water shower and hose to wash off feet & toys. It kept the house nearly sand free all week despite our numerous comings and goings when it is so convenient. The road is quiet enough that they could ride bikes out front or down to the park nearby without worry. My wife and I had a great time walking into town to see the boats launch, draw bridge turn, and check out the pier. The house is large enough that you could escape the other family members in the bed rooms ;) and the large living room was big enough for everyone to be together for dinner or being social.

High tide does come right up to the dunes here, but just the large breaking waves. It wasn't enough for us to remove our chairs and umbrellas, but the beach toys needed to be moved up to the ramp. There are about 4 stairs at the bottom of the ramp, so not 100% handicapped access to the beach. Wasn't a problem for us at all.

We were clearly happy with the accommodations and will be back!

AMAZING THANKSGIVING BEACH VISIT!

  • 5 of 5

Wow! What a great house! I decided on this house based on the need for an accessible home for my elderly parents. Elevator? (check) Easy access to the beach? (check) Enough bedrooms because they haven't slept in the same side of the house in 30 years? (check) :-)

Anyway, this was the perfect place - not only for my mobility challenged parents but is also great for lazy teenagers! It had everything to meet our needs, The kitchen was fully stocked for my wife and I to prepare a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner for everyone.

The layout to the home was great! Lots of seating for watching the Macy's parade and those post dinner Thanksgiving football games. Also, the beds were amazingly comfortable. (not usually found in a rental property) I wanted to pack the Master BR mattress up on top of the car and take it home! Seriously. The house is beautifully decorated and "Beachy"...as my mom said. It is also in one of the best locations on the island. Close to everything and a short shell-packed walk to the Surf City Pier.

The house is even equipped with Wifi which was a plus for my daughter and her friend who constantly uploaded selfies and videos to Twitter, Snap Chat, and Vine. And, had my son spent as much time at the house as he did the Pier, I'm sure he would have loved the place too! He was too busy reeling in the trout, grouper, puffer fish, skate and even a flounder!! Good times!!

We'll definitely be back! Thank you, Larry, for opening up your beautiful home to the public for us to enjoy!!!

Surf City NC beach house

  • 5 of 5

WE have stayed in vacation houses all over the country and this was by far one of the nicest. Not only is the house wonderful the private beach makes it your own little paradise. The house is very well maintained and the owner was great to deal with. If you are looking for a great beach house to rent, I would go no place other than this house.

Wonderful beach access

  • 4 of 5

Family members from around the U.S. converged on this property in mid-August of 2012. We arrived before check-in but were allowed to settle our elderly & tired mother into a room. The (now replaced) cleaning person had failed to show up so the owner and his friend had to clean & prepare the house. Owner Larry treated us to some bakery delights and loaned us beach furniture to make up for that predicament. Another time, he came at night with short notice to bring us extra blankets when additional guests showed up. The house was adequate for our needs with 3 double beds, 1 set of bunk beds, and two couches, one of which is a sleeper sofa. Some of the bedroom TVs lacked remotes, but we weren't there to watch a lot of television! The elevator accesses the rear decks and there are slightly elevated door frames that someone in a wheelchair may need assistance to cross. The master bedroom & connected bathroom are on the top floor with the kitchen/living area so a handicapped person doesn't have to go up or down a flight to be in the common areas. The hallway to the master bath is narrow so mom found it easier and quicker with her wheelchair or walker to use the small half bath adjacent to the master bedroom entrance. We brought a toilet seat with handles that we set up for her. We got a lot of use out of the two decks which had plastic tables and chairs. The ramp access to the beach is a big plus. This is the only handicapped accessible property I found that had this feature. There are some shallow steps at the base of the ramp. The whole family found the ramp's railings a good place to hang towels, prop up boogie boards, or display nature treasures. There's a shower with hot & cold water plus a hose for rinsing off at the end of the boardwalk and even little compartments for shampoo or soap. I liked the privacy of the beach. The water was warm and the sand was kept clean. There's a little park nearby if you head inland that has some playground equipment, a basketball hoop, and a boardwalk that goes quite a ways out into the marsh where you can see lots of wildlife. There's a variety of sea creatures on the beach and in the water that are fun to watch. It was an easy, 15 minute walk along the beach to the pier and downtown area where you can eat, shop, or watch surfers.

Beach vacation

  • 5 of 5

We have been renting this particular beach house for quite a few years. We are always pleased with this beautiful home. We look forward to returning each and every year as long as the owner continues to rent to us. He is very accomodating to our every need to include towels, sheets and completely stocked kitchen with all essential cooking needs. We would recommend this house to anyone wanting a beautiful home with a great ocean front view.
