We are conveniently located just outside of Lovettsville in Loudoun County, at the northern tip of Virginia -- less than a mile from the Potomac River and only six miles from the confluence of the Potomac and the Shenandoah rivers at Harper's Ferry, West Virginia.
Once a milking parlor for dairy cows, the Milk Cottage at WeatherLea Farm has been completely refurbished as a charming and cozy one-bedroom cottage with a full kitchen and bath and a large living/dining room with a convertible sofa bed to sleep 2. The cottage is furnished with attractive and comfortable antiques and art. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything guests need to prepare meals, and breakfast foods are provided as part of the rental. Guests enjoy visiting our wine grape vineyard (sometimes helping with the harvest if their visit coincides) and seeing our flock of llamas and sheep, including spring lambs. Viognier and Cabernet Franc wines made from WeatherLea grapes are available locally, and wool products from our sheep are available for purchase on the farm. The Milk Cottage at WeatherLea Farm is an ideal spot year-round for a unique farmstay experience! We are also a wedding venue in May-June and Sept-Oct; the cottage is used by wedding parties, and by other guests when no wedding is scheduled.
Surrounded by historic farm buildings that include a 1794 log and frame farmhouse and a circa 1900 barn, as well as a stunning landscape including a pond and lovely gardens and trees, the cottage also offers close proximity to many historic points of interest -- especially the Civil War sites within the 'Journey Through Hallowed Ground' historic corridor, including Antietam Battlefield, Harper's Ferry and Gettysburg (only a 45-minute drive). Visitors also have easy access to sightseeing and business in Washington D.C. by way of a commuter train that can be boarded only a mile away. For hikers, bicyclists, rafters, birdwatchers and other outdoor enthusiasts, nearby attractions include the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers, the C&O Canal Towpath, the Appalachian Trail and the Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship. Both fine dining and casual restaurants are nearby, and the historic towns of Leesburg, VA and Frederick, MD -- both of which offer an abundance of antique shops and art galleries, as well as restaurants, movies and entertainment -- are both about 15 miles away. Loudoun County, known as 'D.C.'s Wine Country,' includes over 30 wineries open for wine-tasting and purchase. And for equestrians and racing afficionados, we are about 25 miles from Middleburg, VA -- a Mecca for steeplechase races and fox hunting -- and 12 miles from the Charlestown, WV thoroughbred racetrack. Popular seasonal events in the area include the Waterford Craft Fair and the Loudoun Farm Tour in October, a number of equestrian events in Leesburg and Middleburg between May and October, and the county fairs of Loudoun in Virginia and Frederick in Maryland.
Owners Malcolm and Pamela Baldwin live in the main farmhouse and are always ready to assist guests and suggest activities, points of interest and good food and wine.
