About the property

Studio, 1 Bath (Sleeps 3)

A classy hideaway in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara's entertainment district with shopping, music, dance and excellent restaurants just steps away. The apartment is one block from State St., 2 blocks from the 'Funk Zone' and four blocks up from the beach. This artist designed studio apartment is small but beautiful. The apartment has exclusive use of the front porch of a lovely craftsman style house on a charmingly landscaped, fully enclosed private property in the center of the entertainment district . The elegantly designed corner bed couch is unusual. A drawer pulls out to convert it to a really comfortable queen size bed with tempurpedic topper. We can add an extra single bed-height blowup bed if needed. There is HDTV, WIFI, washer/dryer and gated private off street parking. BBQ on your porch, eat fresh fruit from the fruit trees and use the free bicycles for car free, stress free enjoyment. Relax and feel pampered in this thoughtfully re-designed and well loved home. This is one of three apartments in an old home so please understand that this is not a good choice for loud late night partying. If you would like to check out the other two (one bedroom) apartments, they are Mama Dux and Papa Dux.

About Laura Wildman Manager for Inga

Laura: I take care of The 3DUX and our guests on behalf of my cousin, Inga Frick. Inga grew up in the house with her mother and grandparents. Her grandfather was known to the extended family as Papa Duck. The DUX are named in his honor.

Laura Wildman Manager for Inga purchased this studio in 1993

Why Laura Wildman Manager for Inga chose Santa Barbara

Our family were renters in the house for 40 years before we were able to buy it in 1993. My grandmother and grandfather ran a washing machine repair business in the house. I grew up (at least partly) in the house.

What makes this studio unique

A beautiful home in a convenient location run by good people.

Location and charm in Santa Barbara

  • 5 of 5

This luxuriously decorated, impeccably clean, and thoroughly comfortable studio was a perfect place to spend five days back in Santa Barbara, my home for 30 years, until I moved away six years ago. Located just one block from State Street, with its convenient electric trolley service, shops, restaurants and just five blocks from the beach and Stearn's Wharf, this apartment is great for enjoying all that SB has to offer. Off-street parking, a very pleasant and surprisingly private porch, and bicycles are welcome amenities. Laura emailed me to let me know that the city planned an electic service outage one night and offered an extra flashlight or whatever else I felt I needed. It was not an inconvenience at all since I slept through the outage! She checked the next morning to be sure that all was well. I highly recommend this studio, especially as an alternative to similarly priced hotel rooms! Great location, thoughtful service, excellent value. Five stars!

Well-appointed, good location

  • 5 of 5

Baby Dux has quality furnishings, full of color and warmth. The little kitchen area and table are perfectly fine for breakfast, lunch and tea. There were chocolates and fruit, butter, milk, and coffee supplies on arrival. The bathroom includes a washer/dryer unit but plenty of room and quality linens. The sofa bed is very comfortable. There is street noise but nothing out of the ordinary; felt safe walking at all times. I was here for the film festival and walked to everything on State Street. Great bakery and coffee nearby, plus all the food goodies at Cost Plus. Highly recommended.

Owner's Response: We're tickled you had such a great time in the Baby. Almost all of our guests love the close proximity to all things happening in Santa Barbara. We hope you'll come for the next Film Festival. If you do be sure to mention the discount for our happy returnees. Smiles, Laura and Inga

The cottage and surrounding property reflected TLC to the max!

  • 5 of 5

I loved my cottage stay in Baby Duck! The location is superb. Laura was very helpful and treated me as a welcomed new neighbor. I would think Baby Duck is most suitable for shorter stays as the kitchen is well equipped, but had a two burner hot plate. It worked well for simpler meals.

Truly, the cottage was cozy. I had private use of the front porch area. The parking area was very secure. I'm hoping to visit again next year.

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure to have you as our guest and we'd be honored to have you back. It's definitely a sweet little spot but try our large studio for more kitchen amenities next time around. Warmly, Laura and Inga

Great Location, Great Host

  • 5 of 5

This was a lovely place to spend a long weekend in Santa Barbara. Laura happened to be there upon our arrival and walked us through the space, showed us where everything was (although there are plenty of notes as well), and set us up with the bikes, which were a great bonus. Tip: Read the driving instructions as GPS will take you to the front of the house and not the back driveway, and the one-way streets can make that a pain if you miss it. The space is definitely small, but bery efficient and had absolutely everything we would want. The best part about this rental is the location; we parked and walked everywhere all weekend, including the farmer's market that Laura recommended. Very close to state street shops and a short walk to the peir and beaches. My only critique is that the roads outside are quite busy and early morning traffic will wake you if you are a light sleeper like me. Maybe bring ear plugs. A really, really wonderful spot!

Owner's Response: We are so thrilled to have another happy guest. It really is a sweet spot for sightseeing on the bicycles. So many restaurants close at hand and though small, it's quite a cozy spot. So tickled you enjoyed it so much. Smiles, Laura and Inga

Can't Wait To Return

  • 5 of 5

This property is everything promised and more. The location is perfect, just a block off the main shopping and entertainment street. The unit itself was spotlessly clean and are countless small touches that added so much to the enjoyment of our stay. We wholeheartedly recommend this property.
