About Laura Wildman
My career has been as an artist and teacher. I grew up in this house. Transforming the family home into a home for guests has been a heartfelt art project. Meeting so many good people and providing a home for happy memories has been so gratifying. My cousin Laura has taken over as manager and she is the one who will be communicating with your and will take care of your needs while in Santa Barbara. She is wonderful.
Laura Wildman purchased this Studio in 1993
Why Laura Wildman chose Lower State
Our family were renters in the house for 30+years before we were able to buy it in 1993. My grandfather ran a washing machine repair business in the house. He was was known as ''Papa Duck' to the children in our extended family. Thus The Dux! Santa Barbara retains an outsized sense of community. I was reminded of Santa Barbara’s good heartedness recently, watching the last SB Solstice Parade. It was a lovefest of generous smiles and kind intention… Neighbors singing, dancing and celebrating up the State Street; wearing fewer clothes and enjoying it more. I hope you might find some of that Santa Barbara warmth and friendliness at The Dux. State Street is a block away and the beach 5 walking blocks. There is free use of bicycles which I highly recommend as the very best way to enjoy the town.

As advertised! Perfect for two. Location was great for my purposes. Decor is what sold me (besides location). Communication was easy. Instructions were clear. No complaints, would stay again.
We enjoyed our stay.

Location location location
I just love staying here. It’s convenient to everything and you can walk to most places.
Location was great, close walk from train station, having bikes was nice too. Fairly quiet place even when close to down town. The only main bed is a couch that need to be set up before sleeping, it's very comfortable but not the easiest thing to set up the first time.
Good location and unique property
