Himbergen with its almost 2000 inhabitants is idyllically situated on the edge of the state forest Göhrde. Adjacent to the Hanoverian Wendland, most of the villages still reveal clear remnants of Slavic settlement forms (Rundling). Already in 1006 Brockhimbergen, Rohrstorf and Kettelstorf are first mentioned in a document. Particularly attractive is the visible proximity to the approximately 75 sq km forest area State Forest Göhrde, the queen of the North German mixed forests. Oaks, elms, beeches and ash trees grow there as well as spruce and pine trees, including many ancient, powerful specimens, which are mainly designated as natural monuments. Last but not least, the Göhrde is also famous for its ancient hunting tradition as the territory of the dukes of Brunswick and Lüneburg, the kings of Hanover and until 1918 the German emperor. (Jagdschloss Göhrde) Even today, with a little luck, a variety of game species can be found. Himbergen and its surroundings are thus predestined for interesting hikes and smaller and larger bike rides. The approx. 25 km distant Elbtalaue with z. B.
