Perfect spot, had everything we needed and more!
The house was great, it had everything we needed to enjoy a great weekend with family celebrating my daughter's graduation from Clarkson. We can't wait to return when we don't have to leave for other commitments, so we can enjoy the sunporch, deck and the views!
Beautiful lakefront property
The inside of the house was a 4...a little dated but very clean and roomy! The outside was absolutely perfect...gorgeous!! My 4 kids, ages 8-17 years, and me and my husband had a blast!! It was perfect!!! Wish we could have stayed another week!! Everything about planning and staying in this house was perfect!!! Loved it! Thank you!!
Our Cottage Experience
Overall the "outdoor" experiences were perfect! (five stars) Swimming, kayaking, canoeing, sunning, fishing, fire pit, sitting in hot tub were all great activities for our family which included 6 adults and four young boys. We only got "yelled" at once from across the lake for too much laughing while playing on the floating raft. Ha! The lakeside setting with outside decking and easy entry and exit into the lake was greatly appreciated for both old and young.
Inside, we were not blown away. (three and a half stars) The bathroom arrangement is tough. Master bedroom has the upstairs bath which is fine. The two other bedrooms are upstairs and at night when all other family members need to go, they need to go downstairs to the other end of house to use the bathroom. For families with younger children that could be an issue, as the staircase only has railing on one side. Kitchen, and kitchen supplies are very basic, not for a serious chef. Disappointed there was no blender as the description had promised. The outdoor Weber grill was first class. "Newly remodeled cottage" description is a stretch.
Had two good day trips. One to Alexandria Bay and the other to Tooley Ponds Road to see several waterfalls.
Overall everyone had a nice week.
This family had a great time staying at the lake and were very cordial when we discussed their review. Their comment about being newly remodeled was mostly based upon the condition of the paint on the decks and railings. We intended to paint these surfaces in the Spring before renters arrived, but the weather was totally uncooperative. They were all repainted as soon as possible and now look good as new. We are also installing new windows and storm door in the porch at the start of the 2015 season and have new cookware and many new utensils as well. We were unaware that the blender was missing and will always replace anything that is inoperable within a day, and typically the same day, if given enough notice. A new blender is ready for the Daiquiries!
All of our reviews in the guestbook are very positive and complimentary. We will do whatever we can to ensure that you have a wonderful, fun-filled vacation at this comfortable cottage on beautiful Trout Lake. Feel free to call us if you have any questions.
Perfect family getaway!
My family had the best week at this house! House is way more spacious than the pictures suggest, and there was plenty of room for the kids to play games and do puzzles while I found a quiet corner to read. Of course, we spent the majority of our time enjoying the lake and hot tub - kids running a loop from the tub, to diving off the diving dock and swimming out to the raft, then back up the sandy beach to the hot tub. We kayaked and fished every day! I was surprised at how warm the lake was, I was expecting much colder water but it was perfect swimming temp. I'd definitely recommend this home to anyone looking for a great family vacation, and we're already planning our return trip next summer!
Great day trips are available in all directions. Beautiful Waterfall Trails are only 20 minutes away. To the east is the high peak region of the Adirondacks, including Lake Placid, the site of two Winter Olympic games (about 90 minutes). Slightly north is St. Lawrence University (about 20 minutes) and the St. Lawrence River (about 45 minutes), and Ottawa, the capital of Canada, with its beautiful gardens, canals and waterways, and the Canadian Parliament (90 minutes). Alexandria Bay and Clayton in the Thousand Islands (about 60 minutes) are to the west, and Watertown (60 minutes), Syracuse (120 minutes), and Utica (90 minutes) are to the south. Some of the best white-water rafting in the US is on the Black River, just 50 minutes away.
Other Activities: An hour from the St. Lawrence River and the Adirondack High Peaks. 1.5 hours to Ottawa and 2 hours to Syracuse.
