Gardencourt is a duplex tucked away on a private lane off Beech Hill Road in Historic Somesville. Our quiet rural setting offers the perfect spot to come home to between adventures. The entrance is located within our fenced-in courtyard at 5A, where the charming interior has a local feel. Beech Mountain Trailhead in ANP is just 0.75 miles from your front door. The three best swimming/kayaking/canoeing lakes are right around the corner by car or bicycle. Farm-to-table freshness is just 0.3 mile from the home at Beech Hill Farm, an organic farm stand. Enjoy a sunset stroll along Beech Hill Road; drive 15 minutes into Bar Harbor with all that seaside town has to offer, or head in the opposite direction to discover "The Quiet Side" of Mount Desert Island. (Our favorite)

Beautiful spot near Somesville

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Gardencourt! It was bright and cheerful with a big kitchen table to gather around and a comfortable living area. The bedrooms were nicely decorated with comfortable beds. There was a private patio for lounging outdoors. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed. There were plenty of soft towels. We especially liked the location. The house was on a very private street near Somesville, so it was central to all points on the island. It was a short drive to Southwest Harbor to Beal’s Lobster Pound or a little farther to Thurston’s Lobster Pound in Bernard. The Loop Drive was a short drive in the other direction. This property is the first floor of a house and the owners are sometimes living upstairs. They are delightful people, and we hardly knew they were there. They left a nice jar of jelly as a welcome gift. This is a great place for home base for a visit to Acadia National park!

Convenient location to everything on Mt. Desert Island!

We really enjoyed our stay at Gardencourt on the quiet side of the island! We found that Google Maps doesn't recognize the address as Pondfield Lane, but does recognize Pond Field Lane to give you the correct directions. It is centrally located, and driving to Bar Harbor and the Loop were easy drives within 15 to 20 minutes. We had a wonderful time driving to all of the little harbor towns on the quiet side, as well as walking on the trails. Echo Lake is a short distance, and we saw and heard the loons in the evening! Definitely stop at the lakes/ponds as they are beautiful! There are lots of restaurants and shops, especially in Southwest Harbor and Northeast Harbor, which are not as crowded as Bar Harbor, and parking is free! The Maine Granite Museum is less than a mile away and is very interesting! Gardencourt was very clean and well-equipped with everything we needed. We were welcomed with a jar of blueberry jam and a map of Acadia Park. Lots of other helpful info was supplied on the desk. We were very comfortable and saw deer and turkey just outside the kitchen window about every morning. If you like peace and quiet, we highly recommend staying here! Thanks Vanessa!

My husband, John, and I have lived on Mt Desert Island for nearly 40 years. I am a master gardener, leading big projects such as Thuya Garden, a beautiful English border garden in Northeast Harbor. John is a building contractor and has built many beautiful shingle style homes on the island. We enjoy time with our 9 grandchildren and traveling the country in our tow behind camper.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with this beautiful property and incredible location in 1989. John built Gardencourt for my mother when she retired to Maine, and created a beautiful home for us as well. Gardencourt sits on one acre of land along a private driveway in a quiet neighborhood. Check out the beautiful sunsets from Beech Hill or hike Acadia National Park trails less than one mile away.

Our daughter-in-law, Heather is our property manager making Gardencourt a family affair. Although we are located on the property and available to our guests, Heather handles bookings and changeovers and is available if you have any questions.

What makes this property unique

Gardencourt is a great spot for family retreats as well as couples or friends traveling together. Located minutes from Acadia National Park Gardencourt boasts easy access to our island's best swimming beaches and Acadia adventures. Gardencourt guests enjoy fishing and carry-in canoe/kayak launching privileges at the exclusive Somesville Town Dock so be sure to pack your fishing gear. Canoe and Kayak rentals are also available on Long Pond. We pride ourselves on cleanliness and are a smoke free rental with everything needed for a perfect vacation. Our property manager is located locally should renters require on site assistance.
