"We stayed at your summer home last week and I wanted to thank you for sharing your beautiful, delightful, perfect hiding place with us. We have stayed on the Cape my entire life, and renting or owning, this is the most spectacular property we've stayed. What I loved the most was how your family history is interwoven into the home...my son who is 13 became obsessed with making up stories about the black lab (granite statue of family dog) and ... You are very blessed to have such a beautiful retreat." RENTER
Our GUESTS are the best judge of our beautiful Cape home. So, please take a moment to read the 14 reviews by families who have stayed on our private peninsula: see "Reviews" (located just under the photo of our property, above).
We offer one of the most private, unique, and classic Cape Cod vacation rental homes available anywhere. Douglas (owner) is from a 12th generation Cape Cod family. Our family loves staying here summers, but this year we're vacationing elsewhere and decided to open our home again so other families can enjoy the unique opportunity to relax here.
Our home is comfortable, well-equipped with Central Air rather than noisy units in each room; high speed cable, large flat screen TV.
House sits on a one acre private, wooded peninsula on Bass River, an exclusive area, actually the large saltwater estuary in the State, leading directly to the sea (Nantucket Sound). There's a small, private sand beach just a few steps down the stairs from our deck, and our private beach runs 100 yards to the north. No rapid currents or heavy surf or undertow here - just clean salt water changing with the tides. A great place for kids to enjoy themselves, catch minnows, or hunt fiddler crabs on a private beach.
Large, white sand public beaches are just a few minutes drive away, if you prefer. Children must be watched at all times because of proximity to the water. Few neighbors or tourists wandering around except for the osprey, owls, Great Blue heron, egrets, sandpipers, swans, geese and ducks -- couldn't be more relaxing. Most frequent visitors are the kayakers paddling out on water.
Guests immediately enter a tranquil summer lifestyle simply by arriving; we provide the hammock. Relax in the hammock, enjoy the summer breeze whitling through the trees, take a nap, read a novel. Your choice; no interruptions, no traffic.
This classic Cape Cod waterfront home accommodates up to six -- anyone who appreciates Nature and a nearby native Cape forest will enjoy the environs.
Relax during the day and soak up the rays on a sunny day on the deck;. The entire house and deck are on same story - so easy for elderly or kids to get around. Large paved area for parking in front of the home, a short sidewalk - then only three steps up from the sidewalk to the deck.
And just a few steps down from the deck to the small private beach -- many kayakers and canoers have launched from directly in front of the home (and several rental companies for kayaks and paddle boards nearby) Take a stroll along the water on the private beach.
The Cape Cod Rail trail - 30 miles of paved roads for bicycles -- winding through the Cape forests and along cranberry bogs is just up the road. No no motorized vehicles so great for kids to bicycle or even to take a walk or run.
Sunsets are often spectacular and moonlit nights are a dream as well (photos). Or you can just sit, relax, and enjoy a glass of wine or a drink on our deck, or move inside for spectacular views (see photos) with central air conditioning if the weather is a bit too humid or hot outside.
We have high speed internet/Cable with a large Flatscreen TV, and WIFI. Central air conditioning, well-appointed kitchen, a full-size stove, full-size refrigerator, microwave, coffee-maker, dishwasher, toaster, all the necessary cooking utensils, plates, bowls and silverware. Unlike many rentals, we provide clean, bed linens and towels. Laundry with full-size washer/dryer.
There is an additional "traditional" hot and cold water Cape-style outdoor shower at the beach level, perfect to rinse off after a swim, a sail, or kayaking.
No smoking anywhere on property. We love pets, but don't permit pets in this home as owner has athma and allergies. We also want to guarantee a healthy environment for all guests.
Rather than renting a home jammed into a development, our property is private; lot is adjacent (only) to 10+ acres of undeveloped, native Cape forest -- part of the Wilbur Nature Reserve. No summer traffic or congestion on this property; actually no traffic whatsoever (see aerial photo).
Every room of this home includes a waterfront view of Bass River. Large double-insulated windows provide plenty of natural light in views from every room.
We rent by the week: Saturday to Saturday; Prices higher in Peak Season. Minimum of 7 days.
Another Review by Renter (Martha W., August 2009):
'Our family enjoyed one of our most memorable vacations at this gorgeous vacation home on Bass River. The photos don't do justice to how breathtaking the location actually is. Every morning we jumped into our kayaks and experienced Cape Cod nature first hand. The location is so private that you can't help but be enveloped by peace and relaxation. The huge deck, the hammock, the gorgeous sunsets, the waves lapping on your private beach; who could ask for more? Leslie and Doug were welcoming and accommodating and were just a phone call away. We can not wait to go back again this summer!'
Wherever you decide to stay, we sincerely hope you enjoy your summer holiday! All the best.
