The cultural love child of genteel old Europe, the exotic Caribbean and the sultry South, New Orleans' original colonial neighborhood sets the scene for memorable romantic getaways. This is a city that revels in its passions, and for the visitor with an open heart the sensuality here can be infectious. It is also a city where people come to celebrate, whether by joining the massive public exuberance of Mardi Gras and other events or marking personal milestones in the lives of lovers, such as honeymoons and anniversaries. When a couple raises a glass in toast to each other, it can seem as though the entire town is following suit here.

Part of the appeal of New Orleans is its relaxed pace - a key ingredient to any romantic experience - and a leisurely carriage ride for two is a romantic way to get acquainted with the neighborhood at the beginning of a visit. Various types of mule-drawn carriages are available for hire at Jackson Square on Decatur Street. Carriage drivers generally narrate their tours of the Quarter with stories of various landmark properties, but just let him or her know at the start that you prefer to concentrate on your companion's company and you will have a serene cruise past the beautiful architecture and colorful street-scapes of the Vieux Carré. Snuggle under a blanket on the occasional chilly evening or bask in the tropical sunshine during another beautiful New Orleans day.

The French Quarter's many elegant restaurants make ideal venues for special meals with loved ones. But while the city is most famous for its Creole cuisine, it is the Italian restaurants of the French Quarter that offer some of the most romantic settings.

About the Owner

I am a professional who came to New Orleans post-Katrina to work on homes in Chalmette, (Saint Bernard Parish) that were damaged by water and the oil spill that occurred from Katrina. I fell in love with this city and the people here and decided to purchase a home and re-locate. I believe in the special magic of New Orleans and it's people and am dedicated to the rebuilding process.

My wife and I decided to spend the first few days of our honeymoon exploring New Orleans. All the hotels that we saw were either out of our price range or too far away, so we jumped at the opportunity stay at Carol's place when we saw it on

The location and accomodations were literally exactly what we were looking for. It's in a great, safe neighborhood, and the route from the house to the heart of Bourbon street was quick, easy and direct (which is especially helpful at the end of a long night in the French Quarter...). Frenchman's street is just as convenient and even closer if you are looking to experience the more "cultural" (i.e. arts and music scene) side of New Orleans. The room isn't exactly palatial, but it's comfortable, clean, quiet, very private, and in all ways, as much as you will need. With as much as New Orleans has to offer, you shouldn't be spending that much time in the room anyway.

Since there is so much to see, do, and (most importantly) eat in this city, having a knowledgeable resource like Carol was invaluable. She knew exactly what to recommend based on what we wanted to do. I felt like I had done my homework before we got there and that we knew all the places we wanted to go, but Carol directed us to a few other places that I hadn't found (and steered us away from the tourist traps), and that definitely enhanced the trip.

This was our first trip to New Orleans, and we decided on the first night that it would not be our last. We will definitely be staying at Carol's Oasis again.

Could not find a better place in New Orleans-couple

  • 5 of 5

The wife and I went to NOLA to celebrate her 30th birthday. Carol's apartment was perfect--the location is throwing distance to the French Quarter, sandwiched between Frenchman St. and the French Quarter. Took 10 minutes to walk to all the bars on Bourbon St., and on the other side of the French Quarter is the St. Charles line for you to explore the Garden District. And on the walk back from Bourbon St. every night, there is a 24 convenience store and the perfect diner for late night eating. For breakfast, there is the perfect neighborhood breakfast place, Horns.

The apartment was not big, however it had everything we needed--queen sized bed, full bathroom, fridge, microwave, and its own walkway to the back. This place was perfect. I may be back for a work conference in November, and if this apartment is not rented, I will be bumping the hotel for Carol's place!

Lofty Oasis

  • 5 of 5

This was my 4th trip to NOLA and the first time I had gone all by myself. The location is perfect...... walking distance to Frenchmen Street, walking distance to the French Quarter, and thankfully, in a quiet area, away from all the hub bub of Bourbon Street. The apartment is small but it suited me fine; the bed is deliciously comfortable, the bathroom is great, the linens are top quality and Carol made sure I had everything I needed. The bathroom is well stocked, there is plenty of tourist info in the room, and the fridge and coffee maker were put to good use.

I loved Carol! We hit it off immediately and she even referred me to her awesome fortune teller, Philip, which was quite an experience! I wish I could have stayed........ <3

Lofty Oasis Review

  • 4 of 5

Overall, our stay was great! You can't beat the location for the cost - a great value, and we would definitely stay here again! I appreciated that we were very close to everything but the unit was incredibly quiet. Though not exactly aesthetically pleasing, the unit was clean and sufficient. I appreciated that Carol had a supply of toiletries in the bathroom, in the event that we had forgotten something. Carol was very communicative leading up to, and during our stay. For example, when we went to get the key from the lock box, it was not there. She immediately came out and gave it to us.

There were a couple things that I wish I had known:

1) Parking can be tricky because the property does not have its own driveway. We checked in on a Saturday evening, and ended up unloading our luggage and parking quite a ways away from the property on the street. Not that big of a deal, but I wish I had known.

2) Be prepared for narrow/tight spaces. You must "skinny-up" and carry your luggage along the narrow walkway between the house and the fence. Also be prepared to hoist your luggage up steep stairs and through a very small door. The doors to the unit are narrow double doors with two keyholes. You'll use the keyhole on the left.

Owner's Response: As you walked our neighborhood and the French Quarter I am sure you noticed that there are Very Few driveways (except on Multi-Million Dollar homes....and sometimes not even then!). This is a city and we are in an Urban Neighborhood.....with lots of trees. If you get here late on a Friday or Saturday probably will have to park a few doors down. The good news is that cars are always coming and going because we are two blocks from Frenchmen Street and spots open up. So don't panic if you are down the block with your car. You can move it in the morning! In regard to the entrance at the front of my property....It is a standard doorway entrance and most folks have no trouble at all. I've never had a comment about the 6 stairs up to the entrance door of the I'm guessing this was an isolated incident. There are double doors to the unit that open up much wider than a standard door. If my boyfriend, who is 6ft 2 and weighs 260 lbs doesn't have an issue....You shouldn't either! I have NEVER had a guest respond with a negative comment on the aesthetics of my rental, so I am quite shocked on that remark and take exception to that. But I am glad you enjoyed your stay in New Orleans, Melissa. And thanks for the compliments on how the unit is supplied.

Amazing location!

  • 5 of 5

I definitely recommend this property for any couple looking for a quiet place to stay in New Orleans. You are far enough away from everything to be able to relax and have peace and quiet, but you are still close enough to walk to most places. It is a short walk to Frenchmen Street or Bourbon street, whichever you prefer. The neighborhood is amazing and there is on street parking which was great for us since we drove. You won't find another place so reasonably priced and in a neighborhood as nice as this one, especially when you take into consideration the price that we would have paid to park if we would have stayed at a hotel. Carol is a great host and has a book of local recommendations for places to visit.

4-day stay in New Orleans

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in this cozy, sweet apartment. The location was perfect for walking to Frenchmen's street, the trolley, the bus, and the French Quarter. The street was charming and quiet, and the hostess was very helpful. We appreciated the amenities--tv, fridge, microwave, plates and mugs--as well as the items our hostess kept in the apartment for our use, such as tea and coffee, salt and pepper, shampoo and conditioner, etc. The bed was comfortable and there was a handy table with two chairs nearby. Everything was very clean and nicely decorated. We would recommend Maison for great music, no cover charge, which is a short walk away.

From the Owner

New Orleans is the most unique city in the United States with a European 'feel'. New Orleans architecture, history, music, art, and world renowned cuisine attract visitors from all over the world. I chose this property because of its proximity to the French Quarter and Frenchmen Street. Our home is located in the famous Bend of Bourbon where the 'Street Car Named Desire' once traveled. We are surrounded by mansions and homes on the National Historical Registry.
