About the property

3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, sleeper sofa, sleeps 6-8

Villa Las Olas is a beachfront home in a secluded and secure development of 40 privately-owned villas. A private, jetted pool, Italian stone and wood patio, and 'next to the forest' location (end villa) distinguishes Villa Las Olas for its luxury and its privacy. At the same time, our home provides everything you need for a comfortable and easy stay. Its spacious dimensions provide ample room for larger groups, but are still intimate enough for traveling twosomes. Two of the three generously sized bedrooms are ocean-front, which makes our set-up ideal for more than one couple. The newly remodeled and fully equipped kitchen provides options for meals and entertaining, and the convenience of a full-size washer and dryer is great for families with children and for adults who travel light. The three light-filled newly remodeled bathrooms are all ceramic with high end fixtures and finishes. Furnishings are fresh and tropical, but also practical and child-worthy.

The villa is air-conditioned (mini-splits in each of the bedroom for individual control), and each room has screens and an overhead fan to enjoy the pleasant ocean breezes and sounds of this tropical paradise.

The master bedroom has a King bed, a balcony with rocking chairs that overlooks the ocean, full closet, cable television and an attached private full bath. All of the furnishings are new. The second bedroom is also ocean front, and has two full beds, cable television, a dresser and full closet. It is a large and airy room. The third bedroom has two twin beds that can convert to a king, a dresser, space for the infant 'Pack and Play' bed and changing table, cable television, and a garden view. All furniture in this room is new, as well.

The main level has a very open lay-out with French doors to the pool and beach from both the living room and the dining room. The living room includes a comfortable sleeper sofa, two matching chairs, and cable television. The dining room seats six. The kitchen includes a breakfast 'bar' that seats four, french door refrigerator with ice maker, cook top, built-in oven, dishwasher and microwave. All appliances are stainless steel and manufactured by KitchenAid and GE.

Whale-watching, world class fishing and diving, as well as good old wave bobbing, snorkeling and boogey boarding are available just steps from the pool and patio of our home. The sea provides constant entertainment, be it the delight of seeing silver rays fly out of the water and whales breech or, closer in, watching brown pelicans dive for their lunch. Our kids loved the lively tide pools and making temporary pets of hermit crabs. We love sitting on our deck overlooking the sea with our morning Costa Rican coffee, and waiting for the green flash as the evening sun sinks below the horizon.

Our on-site concierge is available to help you make arrangements for your Costa Rican adventures. Ziplining, hot springs, wildlife tours and cloud forest visits are popular, but don’t forget the cooking schools, horseback rides, paddle-boarding and beach-side massages! Of course, you never need to leave home for the best snorkeling around – it’s right outside your door! So is the best food in the area. The romantic and open-air beachside setting of the our restaurant is the perfect backdrop for its delicious, innovative and beautifully presented selection of North American and Costa Rican dishes. And our chefs are happy to deliver your meals to the villa and to prepare your catch after a long day of fishing!

If yours is a working vacation, fear not. FREE WIRELESS BROADBAND is available throughout our home AND the outdoor patio, and cellular service is exceptional. Our reception office can assist with basic office needs. No one will know you have escaped to paradise.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE DO NOT MAINTAIN OUR CALENDAR ON LINE. You may receive an automated response from VRBO saying our home is available. Please do not make plans until we respond. We endeavor to get back to all inquirers within an hour! We apologize for this inconvenience and potential confusion, but it is important for the security of our home in Costa Rica and home in Minnesota.

About LaRaye

We're a recently-retired couple who visited this property for many years. Now that we have more time to spend in Paradise, we bought and when we are not there ourselves, we are happy to share our home with friends and respectful guests who want to experience a bit of Costa Rica's magic.

LaRaye purchased this house in 2017

Why LaRaye chose Costa Rica

We love what the property offers -- beautiful ebony beach with fantastic swimming, snorkeling and tide-pooling; professional and friendly staff; great food in a romantic setting; wonderful pools; and a casual vibe. But mainly, we enjoy the unique serenity and privacy of our home's location -- while the fun beach town of Coco is just three miles away if we want more activity! The festivals in Coco are great fun -- from the Tope' in January to the Festival of Lights in December.

What makes this house unique

We love Costa Rica and our home and we want you to as well, so we seek to provide exemplary service to our friends and guests. This includes prompt replies to all of your inquiries, a comprehensive "help" document for planning your stay, and furnishing our home as our home -- not just as a rental property -- because it is our home! We are the only development on our beach so the privacy is quite notable -- and our beach has been awarded "Blue Flag" status for our efforts to keep it beautiful! Our on-site concierge, restaurant, and 24-hour security staff is unique among rental properties, and our team treats everyone like they are family. The services in the nearby town of Coco are superb, and include a variety of groceries and markets, skilled medical and dental providers, and restaurants serving a wide variety of cuisines.

Very beautiful home

  • 4 of 5

Home is gorgeous and equipped with everything. Pool is maintained daily and we were in it every day. Views were like something out of a magazine. Walk to restaurant had the best food of any restaurant we tried. Would be 5 stars except for location. Time of year we went is very slow in toursist so in restaurant we would be the only ones there. It was a six - seven mile taxi ride to town and again not many tourist. Now that sounds nice but our group likes a little more action.

My family had to be dragged kicking and screaming away from this villa and the only thing that stopped us from staying longer is that is was booked for another lucky family.

We are a family of four (kids are 12 and 10). The villa is actually better than the photos show. The rooms are spacious and clean, the bathrooms are modern. The view of the ocean right across from the pool is spectacular.

If I had to complain about something it was that I couldn't get the drain plug to fit into the sink. About half way through the trip I realize it was for the other sink!

I was worried about going to a villa instead of an all-inclusive because I didn't want to spend my time cooking and cleaning. In hindsight, it was the best thing we ever did. We had a pick up at the airport and stopped at the grocery store before we headed to the villa and we were able to select what we wanted, not what a resort wanted to feed us. The prices at the grocery store are equivalent to what you would pay in our grocery stores, and it was a bit confusing with the exchange, so plan your meals well.

There was also a cleaning service included for once during our stay, so a quick make of the beds was all we really needed to worry about.

Usually we go on excursions, but here, we were quite happy to relax by the pool and walk the beach and snorkel right out front.

We did visit the resturant on the property and the food was fantastic. The Wednesday night entertainment was a lot of fun.

LaRaye was also great to deal with. Quick response to any questions and a provider of much information.

Owner's Response: We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay -- and got a chuckle about the kitchen double sink! One sink has a drain and the other a disposal -- different plugs! We hope you'll be back!

We had a fantastic 10 day family vacation at Laraye's villa with our 3 kids (ages 3, 7 &10). An ocean front villa with an ocean front private pool can't be beat. The kids enjoyed both the pool and ocean immensely. The forest side of the villa provided howler monkey viewings. Kids loved that too. The villa is perfectly comfortable and the recent updates are beautiful. Felt like we were still in the US when in the home. Great appliances, A/C in all rooms, drink the water, etc. And the owner is great - super responsive and gives you all the information you could possibly need. This was a change from our typical vacation (Caribbean) and we loved it. We did two fantastic private excursions (Borinquen & Palo Verde) with Manny Fennel of Eco Journeys. See review on TripAdvisor. And don't miss the pizza at La Caveja in Playas del Coco. We highly recommend this villa. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thank you, Laraye, for sharing your home. This was our best family vacation yet.

Great Time With Friends

  • 5 of 5

Went with group of friends, but have also already suggested the property to several families. I've been to Costa Rica several times and this truly is a unique property. The updated bathrooms and well stocked kitchen make it one of a kind. Completely agree with the review of Michael F. Really enjoyed the privacy of being on the edge of the resort, and visits from the monkeys. Also loved being able to snorkle just off the resort beach.

Wonderful Family Trip to Costa Rica!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay thoroughly! The villa is beautiful and could not have been in a better location. The villa had all the amenities we could have wanted, and the private pool was a big plus (especially for our two children ages 4 and 7). The villa is on the ocean, on a swimmable/snorkel-able sandy beach and is a twenty second walk from the resort pool/restaurant. We had monkeys right outside the villa multiple days (morning and late afternoon). Of the maybe 40 villas in the resort, this is the BEST unit, and the resort feels very safe and secure. I would recommend this villa for families, couples, romantic getaway, adventurers, etc! It is roughly 40 minutes from the Liberia airport, and transportation was $50 each way. The reception (Cesar & Jackie) was very helpful in arranging for transportation, planning activities, etc. We did not rent a car, but would recommend that you will be fine with or without renting a car. It is a toss up since hiring a driver for the day is only $100 or a taxi ride to town is $10 (each way), and we did not need transportation everyday since we spent a few of our days enjoying the resort (it was great that they had a restaurant on site, and Father Rooster's just down the street was of favorite place to eat). We found everything in Costa Rica to be very inexpensive except for food (whether eating out or grocery shopping). Having toured the entire area on our stay and having seen the other resort options, we were very happy be stayed at Bahia Pez Vela. We highly recommend and would love to come back and stay in this villa again! Also worth noting is that the American owner was very friendly and easy to work with, and she provided some great notes on activities, arrival, departure, etc. Thank you!

Unbeatable location!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time using VRBO, and it couldn't have been better. LaRaye's Villa is amazing, and she walked us through everything. She responded to emails almost immediately, and checked in with us frequently.

We loved having a private pool. We also enjoyed snorkeling right off the beach and exploring the tide pools. The Villa was clean and comfortable, with plenty of room for our party of 6 (three adults and three children ages 13, 11 and 9). The newly remodeled kitchen is great for cooking in, as well as eating or just sitting at the peninsula counter. The wifi worked well, which our kids were appreciative of.

At Cesar's recommendation, we did an Adventure Tour to Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin, which was about an hour and a half away. It included white water tubing (and it really was white water--they had had a lot of rain, so the river was high), zip-lining, horseback riding, and hot springs. We had a great time.

Everyone we met was very friendly and helpful. The grocery store in town had everything we needed, and it was very clean. We decided not to rent a car this trip. If we go back (and we hope to!), we will rent a car so that we can explore the area more. A taxi into town was $10 each way.

We knew we were going during the rainy season, and that certainly was true. It rained every day, usually in the afternoon. On the plus side, everything was very green and lush. We had plenty of books and movies to keep us entertained.

We saw lots of wildlife right at outside our door. The birds and butterflies were plentiful. We saw a pack of at least 10 howler monkeys pass by one morning. There were crabs on the beach, and our boys loved watching them. We also had a racoon (we named him Carl), who visited us multiple times a day. We were very careful not to leave food outside unattended.

Owner's Response: Bill, thanks for the detailed review. It brought a smile to my face. Carl the raccoon, on the other hand, does not. I'm pretty sure he likes you more than he likes me! :) I hope you all will consider staying with us again. You were dream guests!
