About this property

Greenwood Farm log cabin close to the Bourbon Trail and Keeneland

It is a 200 year old log cabin in Woodford County on a cattle farm owned by the same family since the late 1700’s. It is located just 3.7 miles from the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, with 5 distilleries within 10 miles. It is a 20 minute drive to Keeneland and the Bluegrass airport, 35 minutes to the KY Horse Park and 1 hour to Churchill Downs. A great location for anyone attending the Keeneland races or planning to follow the Bourbon Trail.
The space
The cabin has 1 BR with a double bed downstairs, 2 BRs with 2 twin beds in each room upstairs, 1 BA downstairs and fireplaces in the LR and downstairs BR. The original log potion of the cabin contains the LR and the 3 BRs. The kitchen, study and bathroom are three steps down from the original portion, and the sunroom is 1 step down from the kitchen. Gates are available in the case of small children to avoid falls down the steps. Guests need to take care when using the steps to the upstairs and the steps going from one portion of the cabin to the other since they are narrow and very steep. This is common with old cabins. There is a smart TV in the LR with Netflix available. The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove and a dining area. The study has a dedicated work space and Wi-Fi is available. The sunroom has a second dining area, and the washer and dryer. The bathroom has a shower/bath, hair dryer and towel warmer. There is a deck at the back with a propane grill. There are two closets, one in the sunroom and one in an upstairs bedroom. A hat rack and wall pegs have been provided for additional hanging space. Parking is definitely free. The cabin is secluded and peaceful, surrounded by mature trees with areas for walking and just enjoying nature.
Guest access
Guests are encourage to walk and enjoy the farm but are not permitted in any barns or fenced areas even if gates are open. There is no swimming, wadding or ice skating allowed on the pond, which is not fence and contains snapping turtles. Also any farm machinery is off limits. This is a working farm, and we want guests, as well as the livestock to remain safe. A map of the farm is included in the "Cabin Manual " with the areas guests are allowed marked.
Other things to note
Pets must be on a leash and children must be supervised at all times for their safety and the safety of the cattle and horses. Some of the fencing is electric so additional care should be taken when close to those fences. There are some signs marking this type of fencing. This is not a good choice for someone with mobility issues because of the steps going from one section of the cabin to another. They are very narrow and steep.

Delightful
We very much enjoyed the cabin/house, especially the history. So glad the original structure is still there and the decorating fits the time period. It is also well appointed. I had fun imagining the original owners. The location is so peaceful yet central to many attractions. I definitely recommend the property.

Bourbon Trail
This was the perfect spot for this group and our trip. It is centrally located to all of the distilleries in the area as well as restaurants. The cabin is not only an incredible piece of history, but well renovated and comfortable. The sunset from the back porch and 360 degree view of the land is amazing! Fresh continental breakfast upon our arrival with fresh ground coffee was a nice touch, and communication with Nicky (our host) was easy and timely. It was an incredible experience - I highly recommend, and would love to return my next time there.

About the host

Hosted by Nicola and Campbell Graddy

Host profile image
Campbell is the seventh generation of the Graddy family to farm this land. The farm is a family farm raising cattle and grains. The cattle are managed by Lucy Smith, Campbell’s sister and the grain production is managed by Campbell.

Why they chose this property

Staying in the cabin allows one to experience a real working farm, and to enjoy being in a rural environment. Just being able to wander through the old trees in the avenue or walk around the grain fields is a real pleasure. One can also watch horses and cattle grazing.

What makes this property unique

The cabin, which is more than 200 years old, is very authentic, with only the necessary updating - electric, plumbing, heating and cooling etc. - for a comfortable environment. The cabin is, for it’s day, fancy. This is indicated by the chair rails, plaster walls, beaded beams and raised panel doors. The original log cabin includes the living room, the downstairs bedroom and 2 bedrooms upstairs. The kitchen and study areas were added over 100 years ago, and the sunroom about 50 years ago.
