.This is a lovely property perfect for one person or a couple. It is well equipped and comfortable. The two decks make it special. It is set well back from the road up a winding driveway and is surrounded by trees and mature plantings. The owner's home is nearby but the cottage is very private. Highly recommend!
I wish I loved this, but, which was beautiful, but I did not.
To begin with, there were some amazing and wonderful things about this property. The location was convenient, the setting stunningly beautiful, and the outdoor decks were lovely, and would have been more so if the stream, a selling point of the property, was running, although the owner certainly isn't responsible for the variations of nature. Additionally, the loft bedroom was instagram beautiful, and the very romantic sleigh bed was comfortable. Unfortunately, we were not staying in Instagram for four days.
Now, the bad. There was a peculiar odor on the first floor, and I can't say if it was chemical, animal urine in the area, or outgassing of materials. I do know that it was unpleasant enough that we didn't want to spend much time downstairs, and bought a room freshener. The upstairs, as I mentioned, was beautiful, and it would have been dreamy if the uncomfortable rattan loveseat was replaced with comfortable upholstered furniture, and if a lamp, strong enough for reading, was positioned near it; it seemed odd to me that in a cottage without a television (we're good with that) there wasn't any one place with a comfortable seat and a good light.
There were other things that were problematic, including obvious solar lights outside, below the deck, that did not work; they would have been helpful in getting down a steep gravel hill to the car at night. Despite a wood stove, there were no fireplace tools, and the grill/stove lighter did not work. There wasn't a bar of soup, although there were big bottles of body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. Quite frankly, in decades of traveling, I've stayed at everything from third rate motels in second rate towns, to B&Bs, inn, hotels of all classes, and vacation homes, and never once has soup not been provide3d. Even the hotel chains that are moving to refillable dispensers have tamper proof containers.
Quite frankly, for a lower price point, or a one night stay, I might have laughed this all off, but neither was the case, and for the price we were paying, I don't think a bar of soap would have eaten into the profit margin.
In summation: it's a beautiful place, but guest services could be upgraded.
Charming Cottage Perfect for Two
We loved this quaint cottage on a quiet wooded lot, just a few miles from downtown Woodstock. The cottage is well appointed. It feels cozy and welcoming. Perfect for two people! Chelsea, the property manager was helpful and quick to reply. We appreciated the welcome letter with its restaurant and grocery store recommendations. We would stay here again!
woodstock by the creak
quiet, pretty, just what we were looking for
Good for the Soul
serene and cozy!
This small home is perfect for a weekend out of the city. Close enough to town to walk but far enough away that it feels secluded and peaceful. The wood stove, deck, and lovely bedroom area stand out. Totally functioning kitchen was great to cook in. Also, gorgeous wooded surroundings!
