Flexible Mountain Ski House

Overview

Property Details

Updated: Jul 2, 2016
House, 4/3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-13)

This gorgeous home was custom built in the early 90's and features hand peeled log columns, antique oriental rugs, Ralph Lauren fabrics, stone floors, slate in the bathrooms, and a feeling of home. The owner was a private chef and so the kitchen is fabulous and has every thing you could possibly need to prepare a wonderful dinner. Bon Appetite magazine even did a story in this kitchen! The main floor has a mud room as you enter for all your ski gear. You step up to the cozy living room and walk through to the dining room and onto the chef's kitchen. This is next to the family room where the huge collection of music lives. Upstairs there are three bedrooms. The master with a king bed and it's own private bathroom and walk in closet. The view from the tub is of the slopes at Solitude and is the same from the bed. There are three more bedrooms, one with a full bed and a twin bed a second that has two twin beds with pop up trundles that can come up from underneath to do four in total and also a small set of bunk beds for kids. The room is very flexible and the twins can be made into kings. The fourth room is in fact a large studio apartment. This room has a full size bed and a full trundle that can be used underneath. It has a private bathroom and even it's own kitchen. There is another hall bath and a half bath on the first floor. Note that during the summer this is not included in the rental of the house as there will be a long term tenant in there. It is however included in the winter months.

The mapping doesn't work for this house. We are located on the main canyon road just down hill from the Silver Fork lodge and one mile down hill from Solitude ski resort. 15 minutes to the base of Big Cottonwood Canyon and three miles down hill from Brighton ski resort. Altitude of home is 7500 feet.

About the Owner

I purchased the home back in 1990 and did a complete renovation that took 4 years.

I wanted a home that had no bedroom that sat next to another bedroom and would give great privacy to everyone there. I also wanted two living rooms that were separated so activities in one wouldn't interfere with the other. I had been running a small bed and breakfast in Alta for 10 years and so knew what it was in a home that guests wanted. I created it here. I was also a keen chef at the time so the kitchen is very well laid out and is easy to work in even with a crowd.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The Mitchell's spend about 3 weeks a year or more at the house. We even had ski racks built for them. They leave all their ski gear each time so they can travel back and forth like it's their second home! Their children have made friends with the neighbor kids and every one feels like they have returned home. It's great:)

First trip to Utah to ski and this property was a perfect introduction to the canyons and and ski resorts in the area. The location was perfect, the house well furnished and the owner attentive. When we go back to Utah to ski we will be looking to stay in this same house as it fit all our needs. These needs consisted of skiing, hiking, shopping and all were available within a short drive.

Would We Stay Again? Absolutely!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this home for a long weekend. The location is great--right on Big Cottonwood Canyon Road very near Solitude Ski Resort and only a few minutes from Brighton Ski Resort. We skied both resorts. Road noise in the home was not an issue at all.

We had eight adults in our party. This clean and tidy home accommodated us easily--plenty of beds (high quality bedding) and a wonderful dining room with plenty of space and seats. The kitchen is well stocked and easy to use. We also enjoyed the short walk to Sliver Fork Lodge for several great meals (loved the spinach salad and the salmon benedict). The home's many windows add a ton of light. We enjoyed both living rooms, including the wood stove in the main living room. The numerous aspen trees around the home add to the beautiful mountain setting.

Sarah, the owner, is prompt in responding and delightful. She has lived in the area for some time and shared great local knowledge.

This rental feels like a welcoming home--a cozy place for groups large and small to sit and talk or play a game. We have stayed in many vrbo homes and this one gets a thumbs up. Would we stay again? Absolutely!

Gorgeous rental near Solitude & Brighton resorts

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this beautiful house for 5 days, I wish we'd had longer. We spent a month skiing in Utah this March and during our vacation we stayed at Sandy, Sundance, Snowbird and this house at Solitude.

It was unanimous that this was our favourite, not just because of the location but the house itself has a really good feel. The kitchen is fully equipped with all that you're ever need (it even has a teapot which is a rarity in America)

There is a formal dining room, two family rooms each with wood burning fireplaces and a lovely sunny patio at the side of the house, perfect for sunset margaritas.

The views of the Aspens from the kitchen and lounge/family room at the back of the house are stunning, it's a perfect place for entertaining friends, which we did during our stay.

There are four bedrooms and three bathrooms, (the main bedroom has an on-suite with a deep bath that you can sit in and soak up the amazing views)

The house can be rented in it's entirety for a larger group or as a smaller house and studio. The studio which is quite spacious would be perfect for a couple as it has a small kitchen, good size bathroom etc.

There's also a double garage which is available for parking.

In terms of location it's right down the road from Solitude and Brighton ski resorts. We have skied most resorts in Utah and in our opinion these are by far the best resorts as they get good snow cover and are less crowded than some of the other resorts.

If you don't feel like cooking there's a great little restaurant at Silverfork Lodge which as about a 5 minute walk.

All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this house and would recommend it to anyone.

Wonderful house and owner

  • 5 of 5

Great location. We completely dressed the kids, ski boots included, loaded them into the car, and about 90 seconds later were parked next to the lift. Very nice house, and if you like to cook, you will really appreciate the kitchen. Best owner experience we've had with VBRO. Sarah is wonderful!

Beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property Thanksgiving weekend, 2011. It's a very short drive from Solitude and Brighton resorts. The house is amazing and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The home decor is beautiful and comfy. There is plenty of room to spread out. Kids watched movies in a family room while adults hung out in the upper family room area or kitchen. The house was well stocked with linnens, towels and blankets. The kitchen was also very well stocked. The owner was easy to communicate with and accommodating. So many nice surprises like heated matress pads on the beds and lovely fireplaces to warm up next to after a cold day skiing.

Location

From the Owner

I love to be in the mountains and this canyon has every thing. Uncrowded slopes, great mountain biking. A wonderful cross country track, excellent back country and superb snow shoeing, yet we are only 15 minutes from the base of the canyon. In the summer we are just 25 minutes by car to Park City over the pass on the Guard road.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Salt Lake Airport at 30 Miles Nearest Motorway : I215 at 11 Miles Nearest Restaurant : Silver Fork Lodge at 0.25 Miles Nearest Ski : Solitude at 1 Miles Car: necessary

It takes two minutes to drive to Solitude and is actually quicker than staying in the village at Solitude because it takes longer to walk from the condos there to the lifts. You can drive right to the slopes and park next to the run, pop your boards on and away you go, it SO easy!
