Extra-special rental in Joshua Tree

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at this magical property! So much love and attention to detail in every room! The cowboy hot tub and full moon were a killer combo as well. Thanks to the renters and property managers for making sure we would have a great stay.

Enchanting stay at the Rock and Glass House

  • 5 of 5

I can not say enough good things about my stay!

For anyone who wrote a bad review, it's obvious that you did not read the reviews and know what you were getting yourself into.

A four star hotel it is not, but you will find a one of a kind experience you can't replicate anywhere!

The best way to describe the house and feel is like the first time you walked into Knotts Berry Farm or Disneyland as a kid (except made for adults).

It's magical and exciting. It takes you to a different time and place and sets the perfect back drop for a beautiful get away in Joshua Tree.

It's close enough to groceries and great hiking spots but once back on the property it feels like it is just you and the desert.

Tim (the handyman) was nice enough to drop in when we got there to let us know he was available any time and made sure we were set for the weekend.

The stars were amazing and we played games all night in the open living room.

The only negative is that we couldn't stay longer.

I would highly recommend this home and can't wait for our next stay!

Excellent experience

  • 5 of 5

The proximity to the park, quiet beauty of the natural surroundings and innovative architecture of the house make this a perfect place for a getaway. We loved all the sculptures and quirky, clever architectural elements of the house. Considering the owner used all salvaged materials, the house is surprisingly functional. All of the amenities were there. A few things to keep in mind about the house: 1.The fireplace does not have a very good draw, even when flue is fully open. 2. Hot tub is hot and could be awesome but when we arrived, it was really dirty and not very inviting. We called the caretaker and he came over right away but unfortunately, the pool cleaning vacuum doodad was not charging properly so getting the pool clean was just not in the cards. 3. A sliding door separates the living room from the master bedroom and provides visual privacy but absolutely no sound barrier. No matter...we still had a fantastic time but these are some things to keep in mind if you're traveling with a group.

Extremely Dirty, Unkept, and Uncomfortable

  • 1 of 5

I have no idea how 37 families could write the reviews they wrote for this property.

The house claims to have 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, and sleep 10. In reality, there is only one adequate small bedroom (about 12'x14' at best) with a queen bed. Two of the other bedrooms are postage-stamp size. One has what appeared to be a twin bed but on closer inspection turned out to be the bottom of some sort of sofa with an oversized foam pad on top; much smaller than a normal twin bed. The other bedroom had a full bed that almost took up the entire floor space of the room. The ceiling appeared to be shorter, it smelled musty or moldy, was extremely dirty, and had a ripped-to-shreds old quilt on top. The last bedroom was a loft where two top mattresses were placed on the floor. You had to go up a metal ladder that had 1" round footings and went straight up to get to it. Once on top, there was a metal drop-bridge-looking-type of walkway that had a 4-6' opening where someone could easily fall off the sides--very dirty and unkept.

Yes, the house is very architecturally unique built using recycled "trash" artistically put together. It was evident to see, however, that no thought was placed on comfort and convenience. The main bathroom had a large claw-foot tub that was so dirty and dingy looking that we never used it. It definitely needs refinishing or bleaching. The sinks were shallow and the faucets high so that when we turned on the water it splashed all over us and we were forced to turn it down to a trickle. The deep-sunken shower could not be used because of low water flow. The toilet paper was hung on a nail and every time we pulled, it rolled to the ground.

The house had pornographic art in the one usable bedroom as well as in the living area. There were pornographic lamps on a window ledge.

The stove and oven worked well and lighters for the burners were provided. Two lamps nearby had exposed wiring; got shocked. The kitchen is extremely cluttered and full of tons of dust; everything looked as though it had not been dusted or cleaned for many months. The floors were dirty and dirt had been swept to one corner and left there. Lamps had burned bulbs; no replacements--poor lighting throughout.

This house needs a lot of tender loving care. Cleanliness is the biggest problem. Removing and repairing broken and ripped items and clutter along with purchasing a real twin bed and removing pornographic art would be great improvements.

This place is a gold mine...

  • 5 of 5

...literally! At times it felt as though we were living in an old miners home. As you enter the dwelling, you're quickly swallowed up by large boulders and river rocks held in place by weathered cement. Peering in all directions, you take notice that you're surrounded by wine, liquor and various booze bottles of all shapes and colors. They litter the perimeter of the home and at night, they illuminate with the flick of a switch! The living area is spacious and with a group of 9, it was comfortable. There are 3 bathrooms, 4 bedrooms and if you have a larger party, there's a really cool RV that rests beside the house. The cowboy tub was larger than expected and the temperature was perfect. We had plenty of wood to make a fire out back and all the kitchenware needed to prepare our own meals. The back porch is small and quaint, while the front porch is large and open. The pictures don't do this place justice. You really do have to see it in person to appreciate all the hard work that went into making this house a home. We decided to go out for drinks and live music one night and ended up at Pappy & Harriet's. The music was on point and the bar was easily accessible, considering how packed it was. If you stay here, check out Pappy & Harriet's!

Here's a fun video I put together for everyone that went with us!

Home Sweet Home

  • 5 of 5

For an artist this is the perfect place to gather thoughts and get inspired to create. Funky yet elegant this house has incredible charm hidden in the nooks and crannies. Perfect for dreamers to escape and anyone needing a true zen vibe. My favorite is the rock shower in the guest bathroom after a long day and the cowboy tub with the heat cranked at night to gaze up and look at stars. I am in awe of the vision which it took to create this masterpiece. Much respect to keep it beautiful for many visitors to come. Thanks so much for the experience so far.
