Home 2 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms | Cabana 1 bedroom /1 bathroom
The first thing people usually say after arriving at the Posada Colonial is that 'The pictures don't do it justice'. We are confident from our reviews that you, your family and your friends will feel the same way.
We are central, yet secluded, with patios, balconies and grounds looking on to the world famous Arenal Volcano. This Almendro home has a wrap-around balcony, is gated and very private. We have WI-fi, cable and Sky TV, indoor and outdoor dining with flowers, birds and butterflies everywhere. It is a natural paradise.
We are near the charming town of La Fortuna, and our area is famous for its diversity of interests. These include bird watching, river rafting, jungle cruises, jungle canopy tours, butterfly farms, horseback riding, world famous spas and hot springs or relaxing and enjoying the best views of the spectacular Arenal Volcano. And because we are well located on the main road, all is within easy access. We encourage everyone who is planning on visiting to read the reviews of our home to help determine your decision for your visit to this lovely part of the world.
We have been a Bed and Breakfast for about 15 years, with excellent reviews in the guide books, Our housekeeper/cook Miriam is local, friendly, helpful and has developed a great reputation for her breakfasts, which you can read about in the reviews. She is the soul of the place.
Security: Although the property is on the main road, with easy access to all the local attractions, it is gated, fenced, on a partial rise, and thus very safe and private. The newly formed 'tourist police' make regular checks with all the property owners.
Due to health concerns I'm going to be selling the Posada. Anyone interested in living a wonderful life style, meeting great people from all over the world, and actually getting paid to do it, should give me a call. Very reasonably priced, well below appraised value.
Again, all the very best to you and your family.

About the Owner
I'm a Canadian who came here in 1993 for a combination of adventure and investment. I built a home in La Palma overlooking Arenal Volcano, and because of the shortage of places for people to stay gradually became involved in tourism. It has been a wonderful experience meeting people from all over the world. When it comes to the wonders of nature, everyone reacts in a similar way. Awe, respect, wonder and delight.
Guestbook comments from the manager
Two friends and I recently visited Arenal and stayed at this wonderful home just outside of La Fortuna. We had a great time, mostly because of the wonderful hospitality of the owner and his staff. The home itself is beautiful with wonderful views of the volcano and rainforest. Grant went out of his way to help us plan our stay: he helped set up various excursions and provided great recommendations on things to do. Miriam cooked amazing breakfasts every morning, and we couldn't have asked for more. It made everything so easy. If I ever return to Arenal, I will certainly want to stay here again!

We stayed at the Posada Colonial during our visit to the La Fortuna/Arenal area and were very happy with everything! We felt like we were in paradise and the home was absolutely beautiful. Grant and Miriam were very helpful and made us feel welcome at all times. I highly recommend this home to any groups/families visiting Arenal and hope to be able to go back sometime.
How wonderful to wake up at the foot of the illusive Arenal Volcano! This was a lovely, conveniently located property surrounded by lush nature with a variety of tropical birds to observe. The hospitality was remarkable. Miriam was most gracious and we treasure her delicious breakfasts on the porch. Grant was very helpful and kind and often went out of his way to be of assistance. Our three generation family ranged from 89 to 21 years. There was plenty to see and do. We enjoyed the zip line, waterfall, hot springs, safari float and trips to La Fortuna. While we were generally comfortable, air conditioning would have made our stay even more perfect. Thank you so much for sharing your special home! We hope to return again to Posada Colonial. Pura Vida!
Exactly what we wanted it to be
You are always nervous when you book a property based on the solely the pictures, but they are exactly correct! this place is awesome. from the birds in the morning, to the breakfasts, to the house itself, it's the perfect place in fortuna! not to mention the privacy of having your own home with a gated entrance. Eder, who is the property manager will advise you on anything you want to do
This Place Will Knock Your Socks Off!
This property is incredibly beautiful and perfectly located. It is just outside La Fortuna, so it's close to everything you need. Its short drive from the city center leaves you feeling safe and secluded. (We felt comfortable sleeping with just a screen door on the first floor.) It's also just a hop, skip, and a jump to the many hot springs resorts and the park at Arenal. The view of the volcano from the back porch is incredibly beautiful and idyllic - the pictures don't do this place justice! The included breakfast is such a fabulous touch! We stayed for three days in Arenal before heading to the Nicoya Peninsula, and we were really missing Miriam's divine cooking the rest of our trip. There is no A/C in the house, but it wasn't necessary for us - the cool breeze and shade kept this house feeling comfortable, and the owners provided plenty of fans. We were also really surprised by the lack of biting bugs. You could hear the jungle come alive at night with insects, but even when sitting on the porch for hours we were never bothered by biting insects.
In the area -- we had an absolutely fabulous time at The Springs. We were a little scared off by the price tag of $60 per person for two days... but the view of the volcano from the hot springs, drinking blended drinks while sitting in a pool, playing on the fabulous water slide, taking the bus down to the natural riverside springs made it really worth it. There is a local swimming hole with a rope swing and some spots for cliff jumping that was really fun as well. And, of course, don't miss the hike to Cerro Chato (and loop in the waterfall on the way back to the lodge).
It's impossible to exaggerate how perfect this house was for our traveling group of 6 adults. Thanks for a fabulous stay, Miriam, Grant, and Eder! If you're looking for a spot for two or three couples, THIS is the spot!
Idyllic Costa Rican setting
The setting and staff truly make this an perfect vacation location that you will want to return to again and again.
We stayed here for 3 nights, and we did not want to leave. This property is the beautiful placed we have stayed in Costa Rica. The pictures do the talking for this house. Inside was fine and had all that we needed. The real treat is the huge porch that looks out over the jungle and up to the volcano. We sat out there for hours, just watching the birds and waiting to see the volcano, which remained hidden. This is more than just a rental, this is more like a B&B. The lovely Miriam made breakfast for us each day, and it was absolutely delicious-- the best breakfast we had in Costa Rica. Grant, the owner, popped in and about on occasion to make sure we had everything we needed. It was a ways from the town of La Fortuna, so we had to get a taxi on several occasions, which was fine with us. One thing to know-- this is not a house for people looking to party, this is house where you relax and let everything melt away. Enjoy the view, enjoy the porch, and enjoy La Fortuna.
From the Owner
“When I decided on Costa Rica as a place to live in and invest I knew very little about the country, apart from its positive reputation. It was only later that I realized I needed a 'where' in Costa Rica. After driving around the country for a week or so I arrived in La Fortuna and immediately knew that this was where I wanted to be. It was something I still can't explain. I built the home, which eventually evolved into a B and B, about two years after arriving. I drove a fifth wheel down here from Vancouver and lived in that until my home was complete.”
Activity and Interests
The area has many famous natural springs heated underground by the Volcano, and is also famous for its birds and other wild life, and its easy access to rain forests, Lake Arenal is the largest lake in Costa Rica and just a few minutes away by car.and is known for world famous rafting and wind surfing Of course there are canopy tours, horse rentals to the famous La Fortuna waterfall (and other areas as well). It's very easy to fill in an entire week enjoying all the natural activities in the area without doing the same thing twice.
