We loved it!
The Buddy was quaint, clean and just perfect!
Great cottage, perfect location!
We had a wonderful few days at the Buddy. Leslie was so kind and accommodating, without being at all intrusive. We came for a long weekend with our two young children. The cottage has everything you could possibly need and was very clean. The kids loved the beach (which is a 15 second walk from the door) and seeing the fish on the front patio. We’d definitely visit again!
“Beachie” Cozy vintage charming property
Have been staying at various South Haven properties for last 35 years we loved this place as it was so close to the beach and downtown restaurants. Louise was so friendly to not only us but our two puppies as well Hope to return again next year
Rustic home with everything you need
We loved how close it was so the beach and that it was pet friendly!!! We took many nice walks. The worst part of the home would have to be the bed. It was very uncomfortable for us. We ended up sleeping on the pull out couch with lots of pillows. Overall great place to stay and close to everything.
Perfect location, beach (and walk access to it) is just behind the house
My family (2 adults and 2 pre-school aged kids) stayed at The Buddy over memorial day weekend. The location is amazing and fit what we were looking for in terms of spending a lot of time on the beach.
Leslie the owner is just lovely. She lives upstairs with her cat. She wasn't intrusive at all, but more like your sweet adorable grandma hosting you at her house, but you have your own space. Debbie the property manager was so easy to work with and very accommodating.
We also brought our dog (small-ish 23lb Puggle). It's hard to find a pet-friendly space that's so close to the beach. So we were lucky to find the place.
One of our favorites as other reviewers have noted is her amazing front patio! the landscape/bushes really gave it a bit of privacy and made it feel like a little oasis. There were two patio sets - so feasibly seat 8-10 people. Our kids were obsessed with the little koi pond in the patio. Leslie let them feed the fish and they had to say good morning to the fishies everyday :)
To manage others' expectations - the interior space is a bit dated. It is cottage with an all wood panel interior (including the ceiling). The rooms are on the smaller side and the kitchen is small, but enough for what we needed.
We also discovered the cutest little bakery/coffee shop - Bunde's. It's just a few blocks from The Buddy. You have to get the pecan sticky rolls - amazing!!
We hope to stay here again!
Love the Buddy!!
This is my 3rd year staying at the Buddy and I love it more every year. The cottage has a rustic charm and will accommodate up to six people. It has everything you need. My favorite part of the Buddy is the patio, it is so relaxing with the pond and waterfall, plenty of room for a group to relax and grill out or just watch the people go by. The location is perfect, in a few steps you are on North beach in one direction or on the channel to watch the boats in another direction. It's close enough to walk or bike to all of the great shops, bars and restaurants that South Haven offers. The owner of the Buddy, Leslie, lives upstairs and is the nicest person and not in the least intrusive, you can't hear a thing from upstairs. I will definitely be back and I strongly recommend you book your stay at the Buddy, you will not be disappointed.
South Haven, a hidden treasure located among Lake Michigan dunes and surf with miles of pristine silky sand beaches. After a day on the beach, stroll into town. While there pick up locally grown produce, artisan breads and fresh flowers at the Farmer's Market or just shop for great art. Away from the beach you'll enjoy expeditions up the Black River, our old-fashioned movie theater, dazzling shops, the Maritime Museum and great food.
Summer in South Haven, where all the rituals of summers past are still present--you can walk or bike anywhere. There are plenty of places to buy ice cream and the long sunny afternoons mean playing on the beach, fishing or enjoying our many family friendly activities.
The Buddy is a welcome reminder of the way families used to enjoy themselves while on vacation. Bring your family to the shores of South Haven and create memories that will last a lifetime.
