Updated: Aug 22, 2016
Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 1-5)

This charming and stylish, beautifully refurbished 1920's beach cottage is 2 blocks from Carpinteria State Beach, 1 block from Carpinteria Salt Marsh Nature Reserve, and a few blocks from the heart of town. Included bikes, beach wagon, beach chairs, boogie board and cooler all make a fun-filled day at the beach effortless. Rinse off the day in our hot water, outdoor shower when you return.

We were honored to have our cottages (#336069 & #248884) chosen to fill the 'Little Gem' category of Carpinteria Beautiful's annual Home and Garden Tour in April 2012. They were also featured in Carpinteria Magazine's winter 2010 edition.

The cottage features tasteful furnishings and decor, refinished hardwood floors throughtout, central heat, ceiling fans in the bedrooms, and all the comforts of home. Beautiful, original paintings by local artists adorn the walls. There is a bedroom with a queen bed and another with a bunk bed with a twin on top and a full bed on the bottom. A lovely patio in the yard with an outdoor dining table is the perfect spot for a sunset dinner. The cottage is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. There is a fully upgraded kitchen with stone countertops and new appliances, including a dishwasher, microwave and ice maker. You will also find a washer and dryer for your convenience. We offer a library of DVD's, wireless internet, and nationwide long distance calling at no additional charge. Games and books are in the cupboard for mellow days around the house.

The surrounding neighborhood is very peaceful and the neighbors are friendly. There are several antique shops and wonderful restaurants within walking distance, as well as nature trails and bird watching one block away. Or, hop on the bikes and head to town! Thursday afternoons offer a fresh Farmers Market. The town of Santa Barbara is a short drive and hosts a zoo, museums, shopping, golf, art events, botanical gardens, the Queen of the Missions, wine tasting and more! Stop in Summerland for great antiquing, then glamorous, celebrity-filled Montectio along the way.

Our cottage offers a charming place to stay while on your vacation. Make it your home-away-from-home!

About the Owner

Our bought 2 neglected, unloved cottages on one lot 1 1/2 blocks from the beach. We expertly and extensively refurbished them throughout, upgrading EVERYTHING and making them very livable and lovely. We love to share them with people that will appreciate the quality and care we put into our charming cottages. (SEE VRBO 248884 for the other cottage).

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you very much for a lovely 3 nights and 4 days! We had a wonderful time and we really loved the interior design of this place! The paintings were very neat and we had a very comfortable stay. Getting around on the bikes was also a lot of fun. Thanks again, and we would love to come back!

Perfect Girls Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a great girls trip to Carpinteria, One of the best parts of our trip was staying at Kat's cottage. It's decorated adorable and was spotless. The pictures are exactly as it truly is and I would recommend any of my friends or family to rent this property. We spent one morning walking to the Coffee Bean and getting our nails done. We then walked to the beach. Everything is truly walkable. Thank you Kat for helping to make our girls trip even better!

Great get away with family!

  • 5 of 5

The location of the cottage is ideal. Close to the beach and close to the adorable town of Carpenteria. We had great morning walks along the beach and then would walk into town for breakfast. We were very impressed with the charming decor of the cottage and enjoyed the great art work on the walls. Loved the ambiance and relaxed feeling of hanging out inside as well as outside. The best part of our stay was that my sister and her family rented the cottage next door. I would highly recommend the cottages to anyone that wanted to experience this area. We will be back for a repeat of this great vacation and great accommodation.

Perfect family break!

  • 5 of 5

Had a few days off and decided to "stay-cation" in Carp (we live about 60 mins south) with my husband and 6-year-old son. From the moment we walked into the cottage, this admitted "hotel snob" was blown away with the attention to detail, high-end finishes/appliances and charm. We immediately felt at home and had a fantastic couple of days going to the beach, playing board games (Yahtzee!) and just hanging out as a family. Perfect location, about a 4 minute walk to the beach, if that. We have never been to Carp during the week and felt like we had the entire beach to ourselves. Any questions I had for Kat were answered promptly. Oh and our son LOVED the bunk bed. He slept later than he ever does at home! My only "minus" (and this is just a personal phobia/allergy thing) is that the landscaping is mostly plants that attract bees, and there were a LOT of them around -- but if you don't have a problem with happy, busy honeybees, don't even worry about it. They really couldn't care less about us humans, but as someone with an allergy, it was a little too many for me to be comfortable sitting outside surrounded by them. But we're still coming back next year, and hopefully for many years to come. Thanks Kat for creating such a wonderful haven!

Beach Weekend

  • 5 of 5

I have always wanted to spend more time in Carpenteria, and was thrilled to find this terrific cottage. Every detail was done to perfection, from the interior to the landscaping, to the outdoor shower. The location is ideal and you will not find a more charming place to stay. We will gladly return whenever possible. The owner is great to work with. Next time we will try to rent the cottage next door as well and bring more of the family!

Best homecoming VRBO a girl could ask for!

  • 5 of 5

My family of 5 was difficult to find space for, especially to eat around a table together. We were so thrilled to find a rental that not only could sleep 3 kids but that had both an indoor & outdoor eating space for us. We were able to spend Christmas in my hometown and host guests while we were the guests in this immaculately appointed cottage. By day two, we were convinced this was the perfect get away place as we used the indoors, patio, beach gear and washer/dryer to enjoy an 80° day in December! My son asked if we could come back every year. To top it all off, a friend brought us a gift of marmalade made by the same woman who wrote the article on the cottages' renovation that's listed in the binder. It was a Christmas we will never forget. Thank you.

Amenities

From the Owner

We love to spend the day at the beach, walk home for a nap, then clean up and walk into town for a cocktail at Sly's or a yummy dinner at Corktree Cellars. Watching the kids swim to the platforms and splash around with all of the other kids always puts a smile on my face. Morning bird watching at the Salt Marsh is the perfect way to start the day.
