Nice Oceanfront Condo, but Needs a Little Attention

  • 3 of 5

My husband and I have visited the 30A region for approximately the last 8 years. We have stayed in several different sections of 30A, using VRBO for most stays. My husband had asked to stay this time in an ocean-front property and this unit, although we could tell that the buildings were older, looked like it had been updated. The price was good and the property had a pool, so we decided to go for it. We came in after a long drive and sat down on the sofa, which we quickly realized had several stains. It and the cushions in the wicker furniture were very faded. To be fair, the were red and the sun can quickly fade that color. But the stains were bothersome. When I suggested that we take the extra set of sheets and cover the sofa with them, my sweet husband who never complains about this kind of thing, quickly said "Yes, let's".

The kitchen is small but has granite countertops and newer cabinets. The refrigerator is very old and rusted on the side. The guard for the lower compartment on the door is broken and frequently hangs on the inside part of the refrigerator. The second time that I opened the refrigerator door, the guard pulled away from the door and our wine bottle fell and shattered on the floor.

I decided to take a bath to try to wind down from a long day. There is a nice granite counter top also in the bathroom, new tile floor and a tub large enough for a small army. I drew a bath and got in, only to realize that there was lots of mildew in the tiles. Then I looked up and saw a fair amount of mold on the ceiling. Then I got out.

The icing on the cake was when we went to bed. I pulled back the bedspread to find several stains on the inside of the bedspread. At least 4-5 on my side alone. I didn't look any further. I did report each of these issues to the management company who were polite and said that they would follow up with the owner.

The view from the condo is awesome and it's hard to beat for ease of getting to the beach. We didn't care for Seagrove Beach itself because it is so densely packed with condo complexes and 2 high-rises nearby. It wasn't enjoyable for walking or biking in this section of 30A because of all of the traffic.

Bottom line, this unit could be okay with a little more attention to housekeeping and replacement of furnishings. Our last day was a rainy one and we ended up leaving a day early just because we didn't feel that there was a clean place to relax. The rental agency was easy to work with for reservations.
