Sea Oats Cottage, 3rd House Off Beach, Pet-friendly

Overview

Property Details

Updated: Jul 21, 2016
2 Bedrooms, , 1 Bathroom, 6 Sleeps

Newly remodeled. Newly available.

Very large living room. Cathedral Ceiling. Window wall.

So close to the beach you can often hear the rush of the waves, this peaceful cottage features a living room with a high cathedral ceiling, a window wall, large sectional sofa and another sofa.

Bedroom walls are stained wood and tropical blue drywall. Sleeping arrangements are 2 queen beds in the 2 bedrooms, plus 2 sofa sleepers in the living room. Maximum occupancy is 6. The bathroom is normal size with a cabinet sink, commode, and shower.

The kitchen is equipped with stainless steel refrigerator, stove, and dishwasher.

Outside is a deck around 2 sides of the house. A porch swing is in the grassy back yard.

You don't cross any street to get to the beach. We are the 3rd house off the beach; that is, two houses are between Sea Oats Cottage and the beach. We are less than 1 block from a public beach access, which is an elevated wooden walkway that starts on our street and crosses about 50 feet of dunes before ending on the beach.

Clean and accomidating

  • 4 of 5

Six of us rented The Cottage to celebrate a birthday. The location was so convenient! We walked everywhere (food, drinks, beach) and didn't drive once. The Cottage itself was adequate. Nothing fancy. It was clean and roomy for all of us. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to to friends and family. Communication from the owner could be better.

great location

  • 3 of 5

Sea Oats Cottage had the most perfect location! I loved the the cottage and its privacy but it did need a good cleaning. The carpets in the bedrooms were terribly stained, didnt want to walk bare footed. The walls in the bedrooms had to be brushed with a broom to remove heavy dust and webs. The bathroom walls needed to be wiped down also. It was a perfect cottage except for the cleanliness issue. It would have been nice to have a beach cart available as the properties next door did.

Owner's Response: We have discussed this review with the cleaning service, and they have assured us that they will focus on these issues in the future.

Quaint

  • 3 of 5

It may be 3 houses from the beach but it isn't 3 houses to the beach... However, there is a public access boardwalk at the end of the street. Although there are enough places to sleep, the house is quite tiny. I would not recommend 6 people here simply because of the 1 bathroom and the limited number of towels (we did laundry twice in 3 days/and you should bring your own beach towels). I'm sure it would be more than adequate for fewer people. We were unable to get the ceiling fan in the living room to work because the remote was missing and the motion light in the back was constantly on which may have kept the living room sleepers up late. Ultimately, it was a good enough home base while we were on Tybee and it wasn't too far for a day visiting Savannah. I would recommend ice cream at the Sugar Shack, Pizza on Wheels. and a trip to the Crab Shack!

Owner's Response: Just to clarify, the beach access is at the end of our block, which is also the end of the street. The fan remote will be replaced. Sea Oats Cottage has very good central air. A ceiling fan is not actually needed.

Location is perfect, steps from the beach and restaurants.

  • 4 of 5

This location is only steps from the beach, restaurants and a short walk from the lighthouse. One negative, house keeping needs to be more attentive to duties. The bedding needed to be washed before use, the grill needed to be scrubbed and the windows need to be cleaned.

Overall we enjoyed our stay just wish it would have been a little cleaner.

Great Location!

  • 4 of 5

The home has lots of potential, but it has that renter feel. Could use a good clean up and fresh paint. The carpet in the bedrooms needs removed. (TED, may I suggest replacing it with a vinyl flooring. This would be an easier clean-up for the staff, and your (decent) guests.) Also, I suggest the guests to bring their own toilet paper. There was only 1 & 1/2 (small) rolls, for a family of 4 who stayed a full week. Other than that, it was a decent price for the location. Which is just a short walk to the beach! Also, there are many restaurants and shops within walking distance. BONUS for guests, there is a driveway to park your car. That means you can save some money! Parking "anywhere" in Tybee costs $2 an hour (takes only quarters/credit cards), except your own driveway (it's free).

Some suggestions while visiting Tybee (in this location) :

A couple of my favorite places, Sugar Shack and Sundae Café, were just across the street. If you go to the Sugar Shack, try the banana pudding ice cream ($4.50 for a scoop). If you decide to eat at the Sundae Café, get there by 11 am (it gets packed fast!) and choose a lunch special. The lunch specials there are only $10, and it comes with a drink and lots of food!

We had a great time, because we were together. To my family that's the best time of all! Hope you and yours enjoy Tybee Island, as much as us! Also, beach time is real! You will get lost in it, and it's a wonderful experience!

Owner's Response: Our policy is to provide 3 complementary double rolls of toilet paper per bathroom and to leave no partial rolls. Additional toilet paper may be purchased at Tybee's grocery store. I think the cleaning service did an unsatisfactory job. If this guest had contacted me, the cleaning service would have corrected their mistake. Oddly, the guest stayed 4 days, not a "full week".

Within 4 blocks of this home, you will find 6 restaurants, a post office, convenience store, liquor store, a fresh seafood store, an ATM, a pharmacy, 5 bars, a bike rental shop, a surf shop, 2 clothing/gift shops, and a wide, white-sand beach. Pedicab is just a block away. This is like a small horse-drawn carriage except that it is powered by an enterprising biker instead of a horse. (The Crab Cab is the island taxi service) A short walk to the north is a large park with ancient live oak trees and a gazebo beside a stream. A short walk to the south is the library and another park with picnic tables. A YMCA is adjacent to this park.
