Come up to the cool country climate, luxury of open space, superior relaxing quiet, gated security, nature, wild life, wood burning fireplace, and privacy both on the property and in the surrounding area.

A master suite with a cal-king bed is on one side of the ground floor, with two guest bedrooms on the opposite side for added privacy among your group. One guest room has a queen bed, the other a single. There is bedroom space for 5 people, plus an other full bed upstairs in the loft/TV area. Spacious, furnished outdoor decks in the front and back let you enjoy the outdoors in comfort.

The ranch is centrally located about half way between both Kona and Hilo, yet we enjoy daily trips to the Kohala Coast beaches for morning swimming. Convenient access to a wide range of Big Island adventures and site seeing from white sand beaches to the top of the highest mountain on earth, Mauna Kea, as measured from the sea floor.

Please be aware of our strict house rules: 1. No more that 6 guests on property at all times. Therefore, not suited to family gatherings, parties, visitors of guests, etc. when number exceeds six. 2. You must put out your own garbage (short distance) 1 day per week, excessive trash left for cleaning crew will result in damage deposit penalty. Thank you for understanding our limits.

My man needs activity and action on vacation, so it was kind of hard sell to get him out of the resort towns for one of our regular Hawaii vacations. Surprise! He loved it, and kept commenting on the how much he could see around the area. He also enjoyed keep up with "the games" on the large flat screen TV. I just wanted to relax in the quiet and read. We left fully rested.

This was an absolutely beautiful rental home. The listing and pictures describing the property's interior and exterior were completely accurate. And the actual property was even better. So, here is yet another 5-star rating for this rental home. The views were fantastic in all directions. The home was well stocked, spotless from top to bottom, and perfectly maintained. And many mahalo's to Gini for her excellent and friendly management style. I've run out of superlatives to explain our stay. This was truly THE best value for the price. Thanks again Gini. We'll be back.

Kaneohe Hawaii

Perfect upcountry getaway

Our plan was a short family getaway on the Western side of Hawaii Island, and this place could not have been better suited to our objectives. It was far enough from towns and noise, yet close enough that we could go out to dinner, explore the region, and find anything we needed. Our plan was to cook there and we very much enjoyed the kitchen setup and the comfort of the living areas. From the original art on the walls to the forever views down toward the Kona coast, it was all excellent!

We especially enjoyed the animals and birds around the ranch. We saw turkeys, grouse, pheasant, owls and smaller birds which included cardinals. Since we are mostly city folks, it was also fun to see cattle, sheep, goats and horses all nearby.

In sum, this was just exactly the right place for our visit -- neat, clean, great views and good access to that part of Hawaii.

Private retreat-relaxing, cool, best sunrise/sunset views

This property was even better than I anticipated. My entire OHANA was elated as we arrived. The temperature, views, privacy and general neighborhood feel was beyond our expectations. Gini made our stay easy and stress free. Every aspect of the house suited our needs. We couldn't wait to head back to Waikii after a long day of duties around the island. The fireplace was a comfort at night, while the large lanai allowed us to enjoy the fabulous views and temperatures throughout the day. The animals and ranch homes in the neighborhood were a special treat to see while taking daily walks. Props to Ed and Gini for sharing this perfect home with vacationers like us, in such a great location on such a sacred mountain. Traveling from the busy island of Oahu, we feel blessed to be able to see, feel and realize the beauty that our islands have to offer. This vacation reminded us of how lucky we truly are to live here and be Hawaiian. We can't wait to return again. Mahalo to Gini for her Aloha.

The Perfect Up-country Retreat

There is a reason some of us prefer the Big Island over all the other Hawaiian Islands - it's BIG, with vast open space and enough variety in climate and terrain to enjoy several different experiences in one vacation. There is no other place we've stayed on Hawai'i that demonstrates that better. The house is great - very open, with the bedrooms set off the great room/kitchen and large double doors opening out onto truly breathtaking scenery; all four peaks of the island are clearly visible and on a clear day you can see the beaches at Hapuna and the observatories on Mauna Kea. There's something amazing about having a coffee on the lanai in the morning watching the weather move around the volcanoes, making your decision about what direction you'll end up going that day. That said, it's tough competition with the sunsets and the stargazing, which are both spectacular. The house is well enough set up that after stocking up in Waimea, we were inclined to just stay, laying out on the lawn instead of trekking down to the beach. While the location is remote, it does offer a central location for accessing every side of the island - and there isn't a bad drive in any direction, whether it's to Hawi or Hilo. Perhaps the best surprise for us was how isolated the house feels. Yes, there are other ranches visible, but it's more likely you'll see horses, sheep, goats and an abundance of birds than another human being. The house was immaculate and Gini is always quick with her correspondence. We couldn't recommend this property enough for those seeking a unique Hawaiian retreat.

The Best Vacation Rental in Kamuela/Waikii

We will definitely be back. Our stay was great. We walked in and the place was as beautiful and as comfortable as we recalled from our previous vacation there. The grounds were immaculate, well kept, and the abundance of lavender sprays was not only pleasingly fragrant, but quite impressive! The panoramic view from the lanai was spectacular. We saw breathtaking sunsets, and the resident pueo (Hawaiian owl) was there on the adjoining property, every single day. What a site!! Every evening, we walked out onto the lawn and stargazed. Simply amazing!! We actually saw "layers" of stars. One can never get that in the city. We dined at Merriman's on Thanksgiving. The quality of our dinner, including dessert was unbelievable! The customer service was outstanding!

Having stayed at other vacation rentals in Kamuela town and in the Volcano area on an annual basis (which was quite disappointing and misleading), we can definitely say that there is no place like this vacation rental in Waikii! The owner (Gini) was very timely in her responses and consistently provided excellent customer service. It was very hard to leave the ranch house and Waikii!! We miss it!!

We had a very lovely stay. Thank you. We loved the open design of the house and the ample outdoor spaces to hang out. Very clean, well-stocked and beautiful, expansive views. Absolutely loved watching the owls. It would be wonderful to return some day.

The ranch property is our home-away-from-home, second to our Kailua residence. At our ranch house, we have found the perfect get-away from the sometimes hectic lifestyle of Oahu. Here we relax in peace and quiet with a sense of security and privacy, enjoy nature, the cooler climate, and soak in the luxury of space. As life long residents of Hawaii, we feel that the Big Island has the most to offer as far as beauty, culture and adventure. The ranch property is an outstanding location to have it all.

Located on Saddle Road on the slopes of Mauna Kea, at a cool 5000 ft. elevation, in a gated and secure luxury ranch community, this location makes it easy to do everything or nothing at all. If relaxing at home and enjoying the views from every room in the house in the privacy of the ten acre spread are what you have in mind, this place is perfect. Or if your are feeling energetic, skip the driving altogether and take a country stroll through the wide open pasture land, eucalyptus forests, and trails that surround the ranch, over gently sloping terrain. Be sure to have your camera, live stock including horses, sheep, goats, cattle, donkeys reside in neighboring pastures while wild sheep, wild goat and the occasional wild pig can be seen in the distance. Countless game birds like pheasant, wild turkeys, and erkels scurry under foot. Native birds - to many to list,- and the ever present pue'o (native owl) swooping gracefully above making this property a photographer's and bird watcher's paradise. Exciting day trips away from the ranch include the hiking attractions that surround the high elevation rain forests at the foot of Mauna Kea. Or climb up to the summit by car (check conditions) that reaches 13,803 ft. (33,500 ft when measured from the sea floor, twice the height of Mt. Everest) and be amazed by the view. Or join one of the many guided tours that gaze into the heavens at night through the world class observatories at Mauna Kea's summit. In the winter months, play in the snow then come back to relax in the overstuffed chairs around a cozy fire place. If the beach sounds good, you are only a 30 minute drive from pristine white sandy beaches like Hapuna and Kauna 'oa at Mauna Kea Beach hotel. The full spectrum of ocean activities are available from snorkeling to surfing, to whale watching, to night diving with manta rays. The paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy) town of Waimea is only a 15 minute country drive away. Here you will find grocery shopping, restaurants, and historical interests at the Parker Ranch Center. Some of our favorite day excursions include a day trip to the Waipio Valley overlook to take in the breathtaking view into a deep and dramatic valley fronted by a black sand beach and gleaming blue ocean. A trip over Saddle Road to Hilo for country market shopping on Saturdays and Wednesdays is a great way sample the best in Island produce and fresh cut exotic flowers. The town of Volcano is also easily within a day's reach to peer into the rim of Kilauea Crater. In an other direction, check out the fascinating ancient Hawaiian temple of Puukohola Heiau National Historic Site located in the small port village of Kawaihae. Look for the lunch wagon hidden on the property of Eddie Lau's Fish Market and grab an outstanding fresh fish burger and fries.

Be amazed, as we are every day, by the spectacular views from every room in the house. Watch the weather change, as distant wisps of clouds settle on the landscape both above and below. See the coastline from all of the front facing rooms, and snow covered Mauna Kea from the back. Sip coffee from the sunny and warm back deck in the morning sunshine, smell the lavender garden, and check the snow level on the mountain above.You may startle the wild birds. Pueo (native owls), wild turkeys, erkels, kolea (migrating golden plover from Alaska), have enjoyed our back yard, too. In the late afternoon, the front deck is a platform to view spectacular sunsets as the fiery ball of red lights up the sky and slowly sinks below the ocean horizon. Or sit inside and see the sunset light up the great room. Spend the day at a perfect white sand beach only 25 min away, come home to the comfort of a roaring fire an a cozy cool climate.
