Light & airy- windows everywhere, wood floors, & high ceilings! Enjoy gentle breezes, bubbling creeks, & bright stars while relaxing on the porch swing.
Come visit Stardust Cottage when you're ready to relax and enjoy your time in the mountains! Just updated with you in mind. The kitchen is stocked with quality cookware.
Escape from your television, but enjoy streaming shows on your computer. Our wifi will keep you connected if you desire.
Babies and Kids Count! We welcome children with toys and games for all ages. We have a pack-n-play, high chair, baby gate, and kid's dinner ware. We appreciate honest guest counts, regardless of guest ages.
Outside amenities include a bubbling creek, and plenty of room to run, keeping children busy for hours! Chill out in our shady hammock. Relax on our covered porch in one of our rocking chairs or on our porch swing while you take in the mountain views. Enjoy the flowers in our garden, or pick herbs for your dinner. Roast marshmallows at our fire pit. If you are here during the cooler fall months, enjoy a cozy fire in the woodstove (we have gas heat, as well). You'll have access to miles of hiking trails right outside our door. Admire a sky full of stars at night, and then fall asleep with the gentle mountain breeze and the sound of the creeks outside.
Quiet and private, our neighbors are not visible or close to the house. You'll need a car- Stardust Cottage is nestled 'back in the holler'!
We may greet you at your arrival, see you off when checking out as we arrive to prepare the cottage for the next guests, or -rarely- during your stay if anything needs attention. Mostly we will leave you to enjoy the peace and privacy we love about this property. We live in Asheville and can assist you by email, phone or in person, if needed. Welcome to the Appalachian mountains!
Hi! We love meeting new people and trying new things- especially food and travel. We've lived in the Asheville area since our college years, and have two great kids. Western North Carolina is very community-minded and we like to get involved in helping make our wonderful place to live even better. Our family enjoys hiking the trails and cooling off in the streams in the summer, and then catching the incredible vistas on the way home.
Owner/ Property Manager purchased this house in 2002
We bought this place as our primary residence and lived here for eleven years. We loved it from the minute we saw it and still do! Big Sandymush Valley is the best preserved farming valley in the southern Appalachians. Thousands of acres of conservation lands are adjacent to the property, organic farms are abundant here.
Stardust Cottage is private and relaxing in a gorgeous natural setting.
It's modern and comfortable, with soft sheets and down comforters
You can get to Asheville for city fun, but no need to!
I love to travel, but staying in private homes can be gamble - this time, though, we hit the lottery!
Just two weeks before our trip, I'd had the chance to visit Old Edwards Inn in Highlands, NC, a rather pricey spa resort, so I had high standards. Having tried both in quick succession, I can tell you honestly, even if Stardust Cottage were the same price (it isn't!!!), I'd rather stay at Stardust! It's supernaturally beautiful, secluded but an easy drive, fully stocked down to details like delicious coffee and crayons for kids, all with a fantastically responsive hostess. Kama, the owner and your hostess, beyond being perfectly available and anticipating somehow your every need (brand new toothbrushes in the bathroom, in case you forgot), also maintains gorgeously rambling flower gardens around the home. The house is spotless. The floor plan is cozy, the furniture inviting, the whole place awash with light. I especially wish I had her secret for gardening (or her experience and patience).
We loved watching our young kids splash in the shallow, gentle creek, or staying home, sitting and swinging and rocking on the porch, playing foosball and ping pong in the basement, having coffee on long walks around the grounds while the kids picked every wildflower... I wish I was there now. It rained all weekend, and we still had the best trip - with four toddlers, and NO TV! This place isn't just magic, it's miraculous.
Beautifully appointed, in a magical location, a home I'd happily live in. There is no other place in Asheville for us!
We loved spending a few days tucked away in a beautiful area. It was clean, quiet and a perfect escape. The cabin was so well furnished and relaxing! We will definitely be back!
We had a wonderful weekend at Stardust Cottage! The house is very secluded and family-friendly. Well-appointed and thoughtfully decorated, it was the perfect place for our family to get away for a few days.
We really enjoyed a beautiful week. The house was lovely, very well appointed and graciously arranged. I loved the birds, babbling creeks and sweet garden. Location was secluded and relaxing, but the short drive into Asheville and surrounding areas was convenient. We felt we could do as little or much as we wanted. We particularly enjoyed DuPont State Forrest, river rafting, zip-lining, ping-pong in the basement, and having campfires. Thank you for a wonderful visit!
Had a wonderful time! Secluded and absolutely beautiful scenery. Yet we were able to make the trip into Asheville easy enough when we wanted to dine out.
This house is every bit as beautiful as the pictures! We enjoyed the quiet solitude of the location, and big porch for listening to the creek and enjoying mountain views. We visited in early spring before the trees had their leaves back, and the mountain views were lovely, but I bet it would be gorgeous in the late spring and summer when everything is green! Beds are comfortable, the house was extremely clean, we found everything we needed in the kitchen, which was stocked with basic cooking utensils. It took us a minute to sort out the heat situation, it might be helpful to put a general instruction sheet out for guests telling them how to use basic functions of the house like the heat/AC or wood stove (there's a monitor heater downstairs and a central unit for the bedrooms). The creek was a huge hit with our toddler! It might be worth noting that even though it looks like there's a trampoline in one of the pictures, there is no longer a trampoline on the property. The drive out to the property from asheville is every bit of 30 minutes and quite rustic, but not unenjoyable :) We would stay here again without hesitation!
