Birdwatching: For those of you who are birdwatchers, you will be thrilled with what you might “spot” during your visit. The autumn, winter, and spring months bring extraordinary, migratory visitors to both the salt water estuary, and deep waters of Agate Pass. Amongst the confirmed spots: Black Oystercatcher, Great Blue Heron, Bald Eagle, Harlequin Duck, Long Tailed Duck, Surf Scoter, Common and Barrow’s Goldeneye, Bufflehead, Hooded Merganser, Common Merganser, Red Breasted Merganser, Double Crested Cormorant, Pigeon Guillemot, American Wigeon, Common Murre, Horned Grebe, Western Grebe, Surfbird, Killdeer, Greater Yellowlegs, Black Turnstone, Sanderling, Western Sandpiper. During the summer months, the resident Great Blue Herons, Belted Kingfishers, Bald Eagles, and Mallard Ducks will entertain you down by the water. Just take a short walk to nearby Fay Bainbridge State Park, and listen to and look at the trees. Early morning and just before sunset are the best times for woodland birding.
Test your beachcombing skills to find sand, seashells, stones and driftwood, along with gems of green, blue, red and orange sea glass. For the discerning comber, look for the agates, mostly orange, with the sun to their back, on the lowest of tides, right at the line between the large rocks, and the sand...
My property was purchased by my late parents in the 70's, originally a small cabin which was totally rebuilt in 1992 to become a year-round home for my mother, June. I have many fabulous memories of spending glorious summers here as a child and still to this day it is a place that warms my heart and soothes the soul.
The Lake Isle of Innisfree
William Butler Yeats
I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made;
Nine beans rows will I have there, a hive for the honeybee,
And live alone in the bee-loud glade.
And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow….
I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore; I hear it in my deep heart’s core.
June’s Place reminds me of Yeats’ poem, and staying here cures most ills and heartaches - I find there is no “cure” for leaving, except perhaps to return again and again. Thanks Leslie for making it all possible.
What a wonderful little cabin at the beach with a spectacular view!
My family stayed at June's Place in late August for a long weekend. We loved it so much that we actually turned around and booked another stay for a couple of weeks later! There is so much that is special about this place. First, the views are spectacular. The back deck is over a lagoon. At low tide, you can see crabs scurrying about and find sand dollars. Herons are all over hunting for their meals. Right across the private lane from the house is its private beach with a fire pit and comfy chairs. It is right on the sound. We had fires on the beach every night while listening to the sound of the waves. We saw bald eagles, dolphins, and sea lions all while sitting and enjoying an afternoon cocktail. The sun sets over the mountains which are visible from the beach and the house itself (from both upstairs bedrooms). There was so much to see and enjoy that we found ourselves relaxed almost immediately, and the serenity slowed our pace (a welcome slowing to be sure). My daughter had so much fun hunting for shells and sea glass as well.
The house was clean and well kept. It had absolutely everything we could think of, including all kitchen amenities to cook some fabulous dinners. The beds were very comfortable. The linens were even higher quality than we're used to finding in a rental property. The owner leaves a complimentary bottle of wine, which was appreciated.
Overall, we know we will return to this house again and again. It felt like home, and when we returned for a second visit, it felt like coming home. It is truly something special in all of our opinions.
My family had the pleasure of staying a June's Place recently. What a wonderful little place on the Sound with an inlet behind making it even more special! Great location with great views--bird watching was fun too. There were fresh cut flowers on the table and a bottle of wine waiting to be opened! The beds were adequate, the kitchen well stocked--no complaints here. We especially loved having fires on the beach at night--plenty of fire wood available and chairs around a pit for our enjoyment. I would highly recommend this lovely home.
June's place was all it looked in the pictures, great. We were 2 couples. From the back porch we saw 2 eagles. Herons, and otters. We also got to watch the crabs duke it out. The two rockers in the front led to many a postcard moment. We had fires on the beach, what a treat, and watched the sun rise, beautiful. I met some of the neighbors, who I enjoyed talking with, they were oyster farming. The inside of the house was great as well, many windows to let the lovely view in. The location was very quite. The WiFi worked well. There was also a TV which I am proud to say we never turned on. The beds were comfortable, and the kitchen was great, believe there may have been more utensils than at my house. We cooked breakfast and one night barbecued, steak and corn from the Town and Country Market in town. We ate cheese and drank wine and played cards on the back porch in the evenings. The town is about 15 minutes away from the spit but also worth the trip. Plenty of restaurants, Not all are on the main street some are down towards the water and worth looking up. Mora Ice cream is also worth the trip. We took the Ferry to Seattle and spent a day, the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, are worth the trip if the Salmon are moving. Chihuly Garden and Glass was worth the visit, and Pikes market was very interesting. We did this all in 4 days! Still was very relaxing and all had a great time due to staying at June's Place. If I get the chance to go back believe me I will. I would have to recommend this time of year August as the weather was perfect. Would like to try other times as well.
This property rental has everything as described in the listing + a great deal more. Our favorite things:
the views, the beach, the spotlessly clean and homey interior, the well-equipped kitchen, the quiet and peaceful feeling you get sitting on the back deck, the books, the bedrooms upstairs and of course communicating with Leslie. Going back soon!!
I was meeting children who live in the area. We were so thrilled with the house and location. The kitchen was stocked with every conceivable cooking pots and utensils. We ate in more than out. There were fabulous games...we played Trivial Pursuit for hours. We also enjoyed the bedrooms and bathrooms; particularly, the soaking tub. My daughter sort of lived in there! Neighbors were very congenial.
We walked to a park at the end of Point Monroe, which was beautiful! We Also visited Bloedel Reserve; spectacular. Thank you, Leslie, for one of the best vacations with my children ever.
