Restful, Cozy Cottage In Heart Of Mt. Gretna; Drift Back To Simpler Time

Overview

Property Details

Updated: Sep 27, 2016
2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 5

Quietum Cottage beckons all who want or need to take a break. This cozy nest sits in the middle of the Camp Meeting section of Mt. Gretna, tucked in among the century old cottages on 5th Street. The first floor of the house has an open floor plan, with a comfortable living space, full updated kitchen, and lovely eating area. The second floor has two bedrooms, each with a full size bed. There is a second floor sitting area as well as a full bath with washer and dryer. And, like all Gretna houses, Quietum boasts a lovely porch to sit, relax, and unwind.

The house is walking distance to all Mt. Gretna has to offer including the Jigger Shop, the Playhouse, the lake, the Community Library, miniature golf, and the myriad of benches placed throughout the community for whiling away the day.

Hershey Park is 15 minutes away. The beauty of Lancaster County Pennsylvania, with its lovely Amish farms, barns, and small towns can be found in every direction. If you have never been to Mt. Gretna, you will be amazed. If you are returning, you know why.

Keep Looking. Not a good value.

  • 2 of 5

Look Elsewhere. Not a good value.

I simply cannot understand the high reviews of this house. There are better values in Mt. Gretna. We were very disappointed.

This house has many drawbacks. First and foremost, you can find many bigger, better houses with off street parking for the same prices with more amenities at Penn Realty. I wish we would've known that before leaving. We feel ripped off. We noticed houses that were similar in size were 1/3 cheaper in per week rental prices. Had this house been priced likewise, our review would be much higher. The price charged overvalues the condition of the house.

The house has about a 6" slant from one corner to another. Not exaggerating. You can feel it everywhere, even in bed. The beds are also in sore need of mattress replacement.

The stairs are polished wood with no treads and are about 7" in depth of run. Combined with the slant of the house and they are a lawsuit waiting to happen. Our 3 year old who has amazing balance literally fell 1/2 way down the stairs.

The kitchen was nice regarding appliances, but there are no toe kicks. If you actually use in the kitchen you will repeatedly hurt your feet.

The best part was the fact you're in Gretna, and the neighbor has a fish pond and he lets you feed the fish. Other than that - look elsewhere. You'll get more for less money.

Owner's Response: While we are quite disappointed with the review (and think it is off the mark) we do take every review seriously. In response, I would first ask anyone reviewing the property to read the other reviews, which have all been very favorable and are current. We think those reviews have been so positive because the house really is charming, well appointed, and in excellent shape. We take a lot of pride in the rentals we offer. The updated condition of the house is also why it rents for the price it does. It may be true that some larger nearby homes rent for about the same amount; but it may also be true that those homes may not been updated. (For example, we have central air; many homes in the area do not.) We also supply all the bed linens and towels, do not add a cleaning fee, and include things like paper towels, napkins, etc. From our experience, that is a bit different from other rentals where you need to bring your own sheets and other supplies. In any event, we rent in a competitive environment so there is no mystery about what we charge, and what others charge and people can make informed decisions. It is also true that there is not parking directly at the house but we are very upfront about that so this should not have come as any surprise. Also, the parking is only a one minute walk from the house. For that reason, we have heard no complaints on this. As for the little slant, we never measured it, as neither we nor the other renters seemed bothered by it, whatever the exact slant may be. To the contrary, for those of us who enjoy older homes, it is part of the charm and a pretty normal condition among the older homes in Gretna. Perhaps the renter would simply prefer a newer home. Last, on the stairs, again we have not experienced any issues. We have baby gates to keep youngsters off the stairs by themselves since any stairwell can be challenging for little folks. In this instance, it is unclear how a 3 year old twice got onto the stairs by themselves. (Perhaps the traveler was busy measuring something.) Hope that is helpful.

I stayed here for 5 nights and hated to leave, absolutely loved the place and area! Breakfast, lunch, and dinner in walking distance (which I did everyday)! Nice place to stay for quiet and relaxation!

This cottage was above and beyond our expectations

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was above and beyond our expectations or the description and pictures on the home away site. Everything about it was exceptional - the cleanliness, the service from the property manager, the amenities, and above all, the beuty of the surroundings and wonderful community here in Mt. Gretna. We had a wonderful, relaxing stay at the Quietum cottage.

A slice of heaven on earth!

  • 5 of 5

I really didn't know what to expect. But my husband and I arrived late Friday and spent a long weekend in what I would call a 'village'. The beautiful cottage was the perfect location to everything you needed for a few days of fun, activities and even solace. The cottage was picturesque, like an image out of better homes and gardens! The amenities were all there, you really didn't need to bring anything but yourself and some food and drink if you felt like cooking. Debbie and Michael were perfect host, they made sure our trip was perfect. Everything was starting to bloom and the neighbors were so friendly, it felt more like home. There was a triatholon the weekend we were there, however we just opted for the most beautiful bike trail ever and spent a day on that path- it was more our speed. There were jump off points to get something to eat and explore. The lake wasn't open yet but we still had plenty to do and see. Deb gave us a run-down of all the activities in the summer and fall. For sure we will we will be coming back. Thank you for a great weekend.

Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful cottage! My mother and I arrived and it was even more beautiful in person. The pictures do not do it justice. The cottage was very clean and Joanne was very nice to work with. If you are in search of some quiet time away enjoying some amazing scenery this is the cottage to stay at! We definitely will be staying here again and have already recommended it to our friends and family.
