About this property

HISTORICAL CHARM, COMFORTABLE, SECLUDED, HIGH SPEED INTERNET

Enjoy this lovingly restored turn-of-the-century home, surrounded by stunning views of mammoth black locust trees and rolling hills. The three-acre property is surrounded by mature trees and lush greenery, providing a quiet setting and sense of privacy. Enjoy the spacious sun deck and screened in porch. Say hello to the deer passing through the side yard.

This is the perfect place to unwind, rejuvenate, and enjoy the beauty of (lower peninsula) northwestern Michigan in any season. Take advantage of local attractions, rest peacefully in comfortable beds, wake up and brew some delicious coffee. Rinse and repeat.

Serenity Now, we say!!

We want you to enjoy this paradise as much as we do! We will meet you at the house for check in and (because we live nearby) will be readily available throughout your stay to make sure your time spent is the best, in any way we can. Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.

ACCOMODATIONS: You will find the inside of your vacation home to be comfortable, functional, and intriguing. There are large windows in every room to enjoy the beautiful scenery. Your kitchen is fully equipped with new appliances to prepare your meals. The dining room seats up to eight, a perfect place to share your family meal. You’ll find a comfortable living room, and a game table. High-speed Wi-Fi and a TV are available to ensure that you stay connected when needed. The home features spacious bedrooms with comfortable beds. The main floor bedroom (one king bed) is located next to a full bath (tub and shower), that includes a washer and dryer. Upstairs there are two additional guest rooms (each has one queen bed and one twin bed) and another full bath (shower only) that provides ample space for the comfort of family and friends. The living room sofa bed makes room for two more. We hope you will enjoy looking at the vintage furniture and artifacts throughout the house, that we preserved during restoration. We also assembled a small library featuring Great Lakes shipwreck stories (among many other fiction and non-fiction choices) for your enjoyment. There is plenty of room on property to park your boat or snow mobiles.

SUMMER HIGHLIGHTS: Frankfort City Beach is just 8 minutes away, a favorite spot to relax. Sink your feet in warm sand while enjoying a shoreline sunset after a day of swimming in the sandy bottom clear waters of Lake Michigan. Don’t forget your kite.

Take a drive north on scenic route M-22 to visit beautiful Lake Michigan bays and beaches, Point Betsie Lighthouse, northern forests, and the charming resort towns of Empire, Glen Arbor, and Northport. Stop at one of the many vineyards along the way. Wind your way around to Sutton's bay to enjoy the view of Grand Traverse Bay. Whether it's visiting art galleries, attending local festivals, or enjoying fresh whitefish at waterfront restaurants, there's always something to do. Try one of our favorites for dinner, the Apache Trout Grill, then do some downtown shopping in Traverse City. Perhaps you would love the annual Traverse City Cherry Festival?!

You can take leisurely summertime walks along the beachfront, go swimming, biking, and engage in water sports like kayaking and paddleboarding. Nearby hiking trails provide an opportunity for exploring the local flora and fauna. Finish the day at your back yard fire pit, roasting marshmallows and star gazing.

WINTER HIGHLIGHTS: Crystal Mountain Resort features 51 groomed and 6 ungroomed trails for winter skiing or snowboarding. You can try snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ice skating, sledding, fat tire biking, snow tubing, or sleigh rides. Mt. Rainier Gondola is open year-round, and nighttime skiing and snowboarding is a great way to extend your day. Retire with some hot chocolate around the back yard fire pit.

You could also take a sled down the Dune Climb at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park or take your time on a quiet snowshoe hike in the woods watching the snow fall and occasional wildlife passing by. Take time to observe the beauty of the crystalline ice configurations on any of the Lake Michigan beaches.

Host profile image
Karen and Carl are the owners of the Airport Rd house. It’s our only rental and we care about keeping it clean and comfortable. We love and are eager to share its historic charm and artifacts inherited from previous owners. We live nearby and will gladly be available to help make your stay really nice.

We moved to Frankfort from downstate Michigan about 5 years ago, during COVID. Karen was born and raised in Michigan. Carl is originally from Connecticut, but also grew up in Michigan. We’ve both done a lot of traveling in our younger years. We are so happy to have now settled in this wonderful place.

We have both worked for/or are retired from US Government Service. Carl did five tours of duty with the Army, in Special Operations. Carl delivered mail and drove other large trucks for many years. He now has a custom welding and hot rod shop at our home here in Frankfort. Karen is a career civilian software/systems engineer, now a college professor also working from home.

Carl’s hobbies include hunting and fishing, however his real passion for the drag racing cars he builds and takes to the Northern Michigan Dragway.

Karen spends time at the local beaches and loves flower gardening. She loves to visit Interlochen National Arts Camp and to entertain good friends who return for visits each year.

Together we hike and bike the local trails, and parent our two cats, Sophie and Crystal. We often launch our boat at the city dock in Frankfort for a day on Lake Michigan. or at nearby Crystal Lake. There are also the day trips to the Torch Lake sand bar. We love taking walks to see interesting sunsets, waves, woods, wildlife, sand dunes, and beautiful blooming spring.

The longer we are here the more we have learned about the area, and we have not yet run out of things to see or do. We love our laid-back lifestyle and we are grounded in gratitude for our life blessings.

Why they chose this property

We spent a couple years looking for a place we would enjoy now and when retired. All the things we have described are reasons for picking Frankfort.

What makes this property unique

Historic charm, comfortable, great location, and secluded. Serenity Now!!
