About the host
Hosted by Karen LaFond (734)6467819 Carl Carter (517)918-1228
Karen and Carl are the owners of the Airport Rd house. It’s our only rental and we care about keeping it clean and comfortable. We love and are eager to share its historic charm and artifacts inherited from previous owners. We live nearby and will gladly be available to help make your stay really nice.
We moved to Frankfort from downstate Michigan about 5 years ago, during COVID. Karen was born and raised in Michigan. Carl is originally from Connecticut, but also grew up in Michigan. We’ve both done a lot of traveling in our younger years. We are so happy to have now settled in this wonderful place.
We have both worked for/or are retired from US Government Service. Carl did five tours of duty with the Army, in Special Operations. Carl delivered mail and drove other large trucks for many years. He now has a custom welding and hot rod shop at our home here in Frankfort. Karen is a career civilian software/systems engineer, now a college professor also working from home.
Carl’s hobbies include hunting and fishing, however his real passion for the drag racing cars he builds and takes to the Northern Michigan Dragway.
Karen spends time at the local beaches and loves flower gardening. She loves to visit Interlochen National Arts Camp and to entertain good friends who return for visits each year.
Together we hike and bike the local trails, and parent our two cats, Sophie and Crystal. We often launch our boat at the city dock in Frankfort for a day on Lake Michigan. or at nearby Crystal Lake. There are also the day trips to the Torch Lake sand bar. We love taking walks to see interesting sunsets, waves, woods, wildlife, sand dunes, and beautiful blooming spring.
The longer we are here the more we have learned about the area, and we have not yet run out of things to see or do. We love our laid-back lifestyle and we are grounded in gratitude for our life blessings.
