Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Den, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4 in beds)
We have been visiting the Virginia Blue Ridge mountains for over 30 years and have always dreamed of owning a place here. We have a deep love for nature, art and music, so we wanted something semi-rustic with a down to earth, 'blend in with the surroundings' feel. Also something that offered complete privacy.
Robb purchased this Cabin in 2010
Why Robb chose Tyro
While we have enjoyed staying at many different types of beautiful places, from very luxurious 'cabin-style' homes with every possible amenity, to some of the cabin 'communities', (places where there isn't as much privacy as sometimes advertised) we immediately fell in love with the peaceful seclusion and tranquility that 'High Lonesome' offered. While sitting privately on 20 acres on the mountainside, it is surrounded by national forests and steep slopes of private land assuring that it will always remain secluded.
What makes this Cabin unique
It's location is also ideal. Far enough away from the more 'touristy' areas of the mountains yet close enough to get to them if you desire. The only possible issue for some will be the steepness of the gravel drive, but the new driveway is in and working out well. For us, a small price to pay for the seclusion and privacy that comes along with it. While every stay in this beautiful area is a fantastic one, what we offer at High Lonesome is location....and if you are seeking a truly private, peaceful getaway with post card views and more stars than you'll see at a planetarium....you will love it!

The cabin is so cute and cozy. My friends and I had a wonderful weekend enjoying the solitude and refreshing mountain air. I am definitely coming back and recommending this place to others.
This cabin was everything we wanted and more. Seclusion and adventure, comfort and relaxation. Now that we know the area a little more, we will be back to really explore, two-ish days was simply not enough time. Beautiful views, amazing fishing and hiking, and a cabin to come home to that honestly felt like home as soon as we walked in.
As the reviews state, the driveway is no joke. It took me like 40 minutes to pant my way back up... with my dog running up and down to check if I was still alive. LOL.
We will be back... I’ll do more stairs this year to prepare haha.
Thank you for sharing your slice of paradise with our little family! <3
A fabulous place!
High Lonesome Cabin could not have been a better getaway! Robb and Sally have thought of everything, and the cabin and location are very special. Would go back in a heartbeat!!
Time with Grandsons
Second visit. I love the isolation! Proximity to Crabtree Falls and Appalachian Trail and Tye River is perfect. Spy Rock Mountain is quite a hike, but a beautiful view.
Great Anniversary Weekend
great weekend to celebrate out first year of marriage. The privacy to stop and enjoy the views without any disruptions. Morning light coming from over the mountains that you can see from the living room was my favorite part. and as for the four wheel drive needed , its true. but was an adventure/fun to make it up and down the driveway! Wife enjoyed the cabin. We loved this spot for all the hiking/views nearby, we are already planning out next trip!
WOW! the views, the beauty and the remote nature! We felt like we had the entire side of the mountain all to ourselves. The road is indeed steep, but the drive like the hikes in the area reward you at the top. The owner was easy to contact, and instructions are spot on.
Star-gazing, outdoor firepit sing-a-longing, relaxing, relationship renewing
