IDEAL FOR THE ULTIMATE NEW YORK VACATION!

The Upper West Side serves as a great home base for visitors looking for an authentic New York City experience. Primarily a residential neighborhood, it provides an escape from the chaos of Midtown and other heavily tourist areas. The area is famous for lovely tree-lined streets and brownstone buildings. It is a great neighborhood for shopping, especially at gourmet stores, like Zabar's and Fairway and is a train hop away from the shops at Columbus Circle.

This particular stretch of Amsterdam Avenue has an amazing diversification of affordable (i.e. non-touristy) but excellent restaurants, with foods ranging from Cuban to Vietnamese to sushi to steakhouses.

The neighborhood is completely safe to walk at any time during day and night.

***The subway station is on 96th street and Broadway, the #1/2/3 trains.

Average property, good location

  • 3 of 5

First, the reservation experience - the property that was requested was in the Upper East Side (Property ID 3961666), but it was substituted by this one at the same price. Ok, that was fine, but I specifically requested that the apartment be on the first or second floor (at most one flight of stairs) due to the fact that we had senior citizens in our party. The original one I booked clearly said "one flight up". I was assured that this one would also be on the second floor. The owner confirmed via txt msg. But when I arrived, I was given apartment 3A - which was clearly on the third floor. When I complained, I was told that apartment 3A is on the second floor. Go figure. It is the worst feeling when an apartment turns out to be different than promised.

Beyond this issue, the apartment itself is not "newly renovated" as advertised. It was clean, but clearly dated. The floors are worn out. The hallway smells of chinese food all the time, and garbage hangs out the back door - again stinking up the hallway. The bunk bed was rickety, so we did not use the bed on top. The sofa bed in the living room was OK, but the apartment is too cramped for 6 people. The AC units are LOUD. The wifi internet worked great. The 96 Street subway was very close, and so was a 24 hr grocery store just north of 97th on Broadway. There is no street parking close by, but I found a very convenient valet lot within walking distance, thanks to the SpotHero app on my phone. The apartment is conveniently located and we mostly used Lyft and Uber to get around because of the heat in NYC during our stay. Overall a good stay, I just wish the owners were honest about which floor the apartment is on.

Owner's Response: ***This apartment is at the second floor and not the third floor, we told them the correct information. Apartments 1 is ground floor, apartments 2 is First floor and apartments 3 is 2nd floor. You can't go by the numbers as they are different at different building and cities. We always say the correct floor as we do aware that it his hard for some to climb to many stirs. ***We never substitute without showing pictures and all information. The guests could say no and decline. We just offer other options for the guests benefits. ***We do not offer any parking, we only give an apartment. No one will offer parking in Manhattan. If you bring a car you need to pay for parking, if not its not easy and not present to look for one. ***Location is amazing, 5 min from central park and less to a subway. Many restaurants and shops all around and open almost all night. Closer to anywhere in NYC. Very safe area to walk at any time. ***The apartment is very large for NYC standards and absolutely perfect for 6 and more. We show exactly how it look on line, if you think small, you should try maybe 3 hotel rooms and still will not get to this size and price. If you want a very large place and think 2 bedrooms (3 rooms) are to small I would suggest to rent out of NYC.

Great Prices and Great Location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the apartment and we were a family of five and it worked out perfectly. We had no issues with an easy check in and check out process. Apartment was clean and we had plenty of linens for everyone for our 5 night stay. The location was my favorite thing of all because we were so close to many quick restaurants for the kids, easy walk to subway and easy to hail cabs right in front of the building. Only pros (which weren't that bad) were no elevator and it is 3 floors up so carrying luggage and kids was rough and therest was no laundry in the apartment or building but that is probably standard and again was not that big of an issue. Overall it worked!

Perfect for us!

  • 4 of 5

Being over fifty, we were looking for a comfortable place. The apartment is very comfortable, has everything we needed. It is very well located, in a safe neighborhood and has lots of restaurants, coffee shops, stores and all kinds of amenities near by. The subway is only one block away.

Things that weren't perfect:

1. A very noisy heater,

2. Quite some dust on top of the fridge and shelves, and

3. There was construction going on in the apartment above that caused some mishaps.

I would happily stay in this apartment again!

Great location!

  • 5 of 5

2 of us spent a long weekend here for the NY marathon. It was the perfect location! Easy access to the subway, GREAT Italian restaurant next door (Acqua) and walking distance from the marathon finish. Although it can sleep more, it was the perfect size for 2 people. We each had our own room, there was a living room to relax in, a small kitchen and one bathroom. Very clean, plenty of towels. We arrived well before checkin time but were able to check in right away.
