Carl Dene was born and raised in New York and now spends most of his time in Napa Valley as owner and operator of various local historic properties and landmark boutique hotels including; The Brannan Cottage Inn, The Branna Lofts, and The Edwards Home. He’s also the owner and founder of Sam’s General Store which was recently voted Best Coffee Shop in Napa. Helping the community thrive is a family affair for the Denes. Carl’s wife, Heather, is a local real estate agent. The couple and their two sons love spending their time riding bikes and walking around the neighborhood to support their go-to favorite spots and discover new hidden gems.
If you’re looking for recommendations on where to experience the “best of Napa,” from a local and hospitality expert, from restaurants to wineries and everything in between, Carl is more than happy to offer his suggestions. He loves curating unique experiences for visitors that turn into life-long memories.

What makes this property unique
BEAUTIFULLY REIMAGINED: This 1862 National Historic Landmark property was built by Sam Brannan (Founder of Calistoga) who was also accredited with Starting the California Gold Rush. He was not only the founder of Calistoga, but he played a pivotal role in transforming The Napa Valley into the hospitality and wine growing destination it is today. He may be best known for his legendary Hot Spring Resort, but he was also one of the first people in Calistoga to produce wine commercially.
There’s more to Calistoga than its hot springs, world-class wines, and relaxed charm. The natural and cultural history of this northern Napa Valley town adds another dimension to the wine country experience.
Much of the region’s history is still alive in Calistoga, from authentic Victorian architecture to the city’s famous mineral hot springs. In fact, its historic roots are so intact that the National Trust for Historic Preservation named Calistoga a “Distinctive Destination.” It recognizes Calistoga as one of an elite group of American communities dedicated to preserving its town’s character and sense of place.
We are proud to be such a vital and important part of this Historic Preservation.
