Spent 4 very relaxing nights at this comfortable home on Lake MI near Manistique, MI.
Joe, thanks for this review. We love when guests appreciate a property as much as we do. Situated on 10 acres of land and having approximately 400 feet of private Lake Michigan beach, North Shore Retreat can feel like paradise. We hope to see you again.
Great place to stay with our 3 dogs
The house was great. Clean and spacious. The beach was small as Lake Michigan is way up this year but still very enjoyable for the dogs and grandkids that came over. We had bonfires and sunsets on the beach Went up to Munising and rented a Pontoon boat for the day on pictured rocks. Easy to get to different UP attractions such as Seney and Tahquamenon falls.
Denise, we are happy that you enjoyed your stay at North Shore Retreat. Having 10 private wooded acres to explore must have been great for your pups and grandkids. Day trips to to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Tahquamenon Falls State Park and Mackinac Island are all possible from this property. We'd love to see you back again.
This is a very beautiful and peaceful place. The lake does change everyday and we seen a lot of different wildlife on the roads around this house. It is also a great location to travel from all across the U.P. From here we visited Tahquamenon Falls, Pictured Rocks, Mackinac Island, and all over the Hiawatha National Forrest. It is an older house but everything was clean and it was well stocked. Also it was very nice to have a fire on the beach on cool evenings.
Jonathon, thanks for this great review. North Shore Retreat is located on 10 acres of private wooded land, with 400 feet of private sandy beach right on Lake Michigan. It's the perfect place to get away from it all.
Great beach and location
We love this area and have stayed at other rental homes in the U.P., this house had by far the best beach (even though it was a completely different beach after some big waves hit!). Overall, the place fit our needs-no trouble with check in, directions were clear, having a garage was nice, the beach was great and the house had many amenities for us to utilize. I do feel that the house itself could use a good deep clean, some areas seem to have been neglected for quite some time (dust, cobwebs, pet hair, insects, vacuum corners). Also, the fenced in “dog area” had very tall weeds and ferns, about knee high and we know ticks are not uncommon in this area, but we found about 6 different ticks on people and in the house. They may not have all come from the dog area, we found others later and we only let her in there that one time, but some attention does need to be made to keeping the weeds and grass mowed, especially for a "pet friendly" space and in a heavy tick population area. Again, these are minimal things, and just some suggestions for the future. We still had a wonderful time visiting the area and as stated before the beach was wonderful. We appreciate the owners opening up their home for all of us to enjoy!
Chelsea, we are so happy to hear that overall you enjoyed your stay at North Shore Retreat. It's easy to relax here with 10 private acres of land and Lake Michigan's beach for swimming. Plus, you can go on day trips to the Mackinac Bridge, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and Tahquamenon Falls State Park, which are all about 1.5 hours drive. Thanks you for telling us about the cleaning and the grass. Both should have been taken care of before you arrived. In the future, if you rent from us again, please let us know immediately about items like this as we will remedy the situation immediately. It is our #1 priority to make sure that our guests are comfortable.
Winter solitude, dog friendly and extras
The property has a great view of Lake MI and the home itself is well kept/clean. It was nice to have access to the garage especially due to the snow we had while there. A real benefit was not having to bring towels or linens including other amenities like hand soap, dish soap, TP, S&P etc. The only negative for us was the swallow you up style sofa. There is no other cushion/comfortable type seating around the telly.
Steve, we are happy that overall you enjoyed your stay at North Shore Retreat. It is a great property and being on Lake Michigan is the absolute best! We hope to work with you again soon!
Unbelievably Picturesque Location With Fantastic Accomodations
Wow! Wish we could give this place a higher rating! It was nothing short of incredible. It is in an absolutely beautiful, secluded, pine filled property. The lake front is right out the back door! If you are looking to get away from it all, this is the location to make that a reality.
We visited in the winter. We really enjoy being outside in the snow. The dry, powdery snow was breathtaking! We were treated with an ice storm that coated the trees with crystals. It then turned to snow to really make for a truly spectacular scene. This location is less than two hours from many interesting locations. The Fayette Historic Site is really incredible. Of course, sunrise and sunset at the lighthouse should not be missed. If you are there in the winter, head up to see the Eben Ice Cave. If you love photography, this would be a fantastic place to see the stars if the sky was clear. Little to no light pollution at this location and lots of things to photograph. We had deer pass through the property right out the picture window!
We have stayed in almost 20 different VRBO locations across the USA. This one truly was one of our favorite locations. The host had everything you would need to prepare meals and store leftovers. We have been in locations where you were given one roll of toilet paper and one roll of paper towels for a week long stay. This location had ample supplies and if you needed more, the extra items were in a closet for you to grab. They really have gone the extra mile in securing items to make your stay comfortable.
I loved how it was decorated. It is very pretty. It really feels like you are staying in a home away from home. Lots of personal touches throughout the home. The owner did a wonderful job of making us feel welcome. We are really looking forward to returning in the fall. I want to bring my adult children up to see the beauty of this part of Michigan. We loved it and can't wait to share it with others. If this site is available, book it! It is perfect!!
Donna, wow, your review blew us away! We love when our guests appreciate our properties as much as you did North Shore Retreat. We agree that it is a very special place, no matter which season you are there. The chateau style is absolutely enticing. We are looking forward for your return visit in the fall!
Pictured Rocks is about a 60 minute drive northwest of the cottage.
Tahquamenon Falls is about a 60 minute drive northeast.
