Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Den, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4 adults or family of 5)
My husband John and I retired in 2009, leaving us more time to spend training our dogs (German Shorthaired Pointers), more time for gardening, and more time to kick back at our home up at St. Mary's. Add three wonderful young grandkids to the mix, and we are busy folks indeed! In our book collection at the mountain house, you'll see what eclectic interests we have...Zen, nature, all things political (well, that's John's interest anyway), writing, memoirs and biographies, interior design and decorating, and cooking (again, that's John's baliwick). John is a sports fanatic and my counterpoint to his TV watching is to gaze for hours out the windows, tuning in to the magical life of the forest and the creatures that inhabit it. And it is now my personal passion to enable you to reconnect with whatever is important to you - a budding photography or writing career, the beauty of nature, the challenge of being physically fit, or reconnecting/connecting with that special person in your life. Join us at Saudade for a renewal of the spirit...
Owner purchased this Cabin in 1998
Why Owner chose Idaho Springs
Our busy lives in Boulder cried out for a retreat that we could access within an hour's drive, yet a place where we could truly feel 'away from it all'. Having spent summers with my grandparents on a lake in south Jersey, being close to water was a must. For with water, comes wildlife, and that sense of peace that lets the soul be nurtured by Wallace Stegner's 'all the little live things'...
What makes this Cabin unique
Whether you are in the mood for the adventurous two hour hike around the back bowl of St. Mary's Glacier, or a stroll on the acres around the house taking nature photographs, there is something here for every mood. Fish for trout in 2 private lakes or the stream that runs through the property. A year round underground spring bubbles to the surface on the hillside below the house; explore where the beaver dam has eroded and now native grasses are re-established along the stream bed. And on a windy night, the outdoor lights illuminate the Engleman Spruce swaying just beyond the deck, creating the illusion of a ship plowing through ocean waves. Lie in bed at night listening to the sound of rushing water, heard year round until the banks of snow completely cover the stream bed...and then the sound is replaced by the winter winds high in the treetops. Recent wildlife on our property include moose, beaver and pine marten, plus, of course, the foxes. Open up your senses and feel your spirit soar...

I can not express the beauty of this property! Although our stay was cut short due to altitude sickness with my husband, the property is beyond amazing. The cabin was perfect and had everything we needed. CJ was is constant communication and very kind and helpful. Definitely 5 stars all the way around!!
Absolutely loved this cabin and experience! CJ was great and very welcoming . Easy walk to the trailhead of St. Mary's Glacier! Beautiful property with trout in the creek and 9+ species of birds just from the back deck. We actually saw a young bull moose on the road when first driving to the cabin! Towns of Idaho Springs and Georgetown close and a great visit. Cabin had everything we needed and more. We definitely want to return!
This cabin was in a fantastic location. Super close to the hiking trail of St Marys Glacier, and close to fishing spots. The trout stream was just steps away from cabin. My family had such a wonderful time on this trip!
Tranquility abounds in this heavenly little piece of nature
I cannot say enough good things about this property; we had all the amenities and more we needed, everything was clean when we arrived and communication with the owners was phenomenal. We didn't even have to leave the deck to be surrounded by nature and all sorts of little critters! They had bird seed, corn and hummingbird nectar stocked so we could refill and delight in watching them eat (I cannot believe how tame they all were--especially the squirrels and ESPECIALLY with 2 hounds watching their every move!!). The sound of the stream was ever-present--it put me to sleep each night, and I woke up to it each morning. Literally a hop across the road was St. Mary's glacier, which we hiked up to, and Mt. Evans was just a short drive away. I would definitely stay here again and cannot recommend this sanctuary enough. Thank you CJ!!
Beautiful and has everything
Truly lovely, super easy communication, and well appointed. Perfect week.
Secluded Cabin getaway
We had an amazing long weekend at the cabin. Fabulous views, hikes and great fishing. My husband was thrilled to catch and release Rainbow, Brown and Brook trout. Our family enjoyed quiet walks through the meadow area below the cabin listening to the water and birds chirping. Our family was so happy to be able to bring our dogs as well and enjoy the mountain hiking with us. CJ was a top notch Host and checked in before, during and after our stay. We would LOVE to come back to this beautiful spot. Thank you!
