About this property

Casita de Luna - Beach 200 yards away, Stunning Views, Peace, Quiet and Nature

A bargain for such a great location this close to the beach - just a few hundred yards away! Close enough to hear the sound of whales flapping their tails on the water. Stunning open views (no exaggeration) of the spectacular peaks of the 7000' Sierra Laguna Mountains and the wide open Pacific. You don't even have to go down to the beach to enjoy it - the porch and roof-top terraza (preferred by many guests) bring it to you. A private beach bungalow located in an undeveloped area just north of Todos, it provides a natural retreat yet is just 10 minutes from all the action downtown. Located on over an acre and adjacent to 90 undeveloped acres of cactus forest, it's set back from main roads for security, privacy and NO road dust or traffic noise. We now have one neighbor on our north side, but it's still an exceptionally peaceful location, a natural setting with open landscape. Summer, fall and spring special rates. It is a spacious, airy studio with wide windows facing incredible views in every direction, plus french doors that open to the ocean view. It's our home, not a separate guest house, so it has most items you need to live! Furnished with:
*WiFi (password on front of info book on wall)
*King bed (or 2 singles pushed together) - comfy
* Sofa/futon bed (double) - great for kids
* Kitchen table & chairs
* Stove
* Fridge
* Microwave
* Kitchen cold water / right faucet is filtered and potable / drinkable.
* Full complement of cooking/eating utensils - cook to your hearts content if you want
* Many items and condiments you'll need (coffee, tea, spices, sugar, rice, beans, vinegar, oil, etc.) to cook up fresh fish bought from the boats at fishermen's beach.
* Margarita glasses and salt included! (You bring the tequila). Also blender to mix them!
* Wine glasses for sunset on the porch.
* Beer steins
* French press and Mr. Coffee maker with coffee grinder, to make it fresh!
* Linens and towels, including beach towels and beach mats.
* Beach umbrella, beach mats, canvas chairs, cooler, mask, snorkels, fins and boogie board available for beach trips are stored under patio.
* Rocking Chairs and recliners available for lounging on the porch or terraza/roof top.
* Hammock under palms. Daybed swing with view of ocean.

* Box of books for your reading pleasure.
* Daily afternoon breeze through ocean-side French doors to cool you, or ceiling fans.
* Table and comfortable chairs on corner of porch for al fresco dining.
* TV with DVD player and an assortment of DVDs (no TV reception).
* Radio/CD/Ipod player but you need to bring an AUX cord.
* French doors and screen doors are heavy metal with secure locks, to leave open all night, if desired.
* Stairs to terraza provide a view of entire coast line of the Pacific and Sierra Laguna mountains, or just sit on the corner of the front porch and soak it all in. Great spots for sunset and star gazing after a day on the beach.
* Full water pressure with plenty of hot water in walk-in shower, that also waters the desert garden.
* Gas BBQ - ask me ahead of time to arrange it.
Sleep to the soothing sound of crashing surf and wake to cooing doves. You´ll love strolling along the empty, white sandy beach, watching the whales breaching right off shore. If you prefer birding, from your porch watch osprey perched in the old-growth cactus, resident baby quail or road-runners skittering around and cardinals and Orioles feeding on the agave in the yard. Star gazing is a must. A very peaceful setting. Plus, it's green: partial solar for electricity and sink and shower water goes out to the garden - and we emphasize growing native, protected, water-conserving species in the garden.

The local 16% IVA Tax is included in the price and we have a Mexican business license to operate. We have security cameras installed on the outside of the house, but not on the west porch to protect your privacy.

Surfing, swimming, fishing, shopping, snorkeling, beach combing, hiking, biking, horseback riding, great dining are all available in the area. Todos Santos is an eclectic mix of artists, musicians, surfers, organic farmers, fishermen and rave-reviewed chefs that you'll want to try! Classes in Spanish, yoga, meditation, Tai Chi, cooking, art, surfing and kayaking available. This interesting cultural blend provides a variety of interesting galleries, restaurants and eco-experiences to choose from. One of our favorites is helping release baby sea turtles back to the ocean in fall and winter, just up the beach from our casita. You can even volunteer to go out on ATV in middle of the night to recover turtle eggs from nests and help rebury them in the refuge green house. Contact us for an affordable vacation spot and info on the local attractions.

And Casita de Luna is SUSTAINABLE with a low carbon and water footprint! Here are the steps we've taken to reduce our footprint on the earth:
* All the water from sinks and shower go out to the garden - none is wasted! * The house is partially on small solar electrical system for conservation and as backup when Mexican CFE electricity goes out.
* In our guest book, we provide information to recycle and provide a compost pit for those wishing to recycle.
* We also provide reusable shopping bags, hanging in the kitchen.
* Hand soap is in refillable containers to avoid single use plastic bottles.
* Filtered water is provided in cold water/ right hand kitchen faucet.
* All energy-efficient, LED light bulbs used throughout the house.
* We are committed to the cause!

Cathy is an exceptional host
Excellent, proactive communications before and during stay. The casita is as advertised, though not quite as secluded as I'd hoped. But the view to the west and the constant thunder of the pounding surf made it seem more remote. I would not hesitate to recommend it and we will stay there again the next time we visit Todos Santos.

Magic
Property was just as it looked it the pictures but better. If a studio in a idealic very close to the beach is what your looking for you found the place. This was a father son get away. Not only was the property brilliant we found great surf fishing out front. We called large whiting, pompano, croaker and one species I was not familiar with. Owner was very responsive to our needs and questions. I plan on returning

Peaceful stay with ocean view
If you want some peace and quiet yet close access to restaurants and the ocean, this is the place to stay. The owner was excellent at communicating with me and gave me lots of advice about many things, even after I left the property to continue my travels in Mexico. This was 100% a wonderful experience. I will definitely return.

Efficient ocean view casita
This is a one room efficient casita with adequate amenities for a pleasant and relaxing vacation. Great ocean, surf break, and sunset views, five minute easy walk to the endless beach. Bed is comfortable, kitchen functional for light use, well equipped for coffee and light meals, good refrigerator and freezer for your supplies drinks and ice. Bathroom is typical with good shower, excellent hot water, and privacy door. There are restaurants, a laundry, some services and a market nearby without having to drive into town. The owner Cathy is very attentive and helpful, provided very clear directions, responds quickly, made no exaggerated claims and was very easy to deal with. A helpful binder of information is provided to answer a lot of your questions and advise you of the area and it's attractions. Highly recommended for those seeking basic accommodations without all the bells whistles and hyperbole.

What a Place!
We were a little reticent when we booked; however, after communicating with the property owner, we fully understood the property, the location, and the intricacies of staying at La Casita Luna. The Casita is stocked with everything you need to feel at home. It was as if we just arrived at a relative’s house. The property is located a few miles from town. Access to town on foot would be inconvenient at best. By bike would be difficult. Use of a car is recommended. We never saw any form of public transportation. We were quite comfortable with the isolation and tranquility. We felt safe, both in town and at the property. It’s a very short walk to the beach. Once there, you might see people. You will see free range horses, whales at a distance, and miles of clean, lightly traveled shoreline. The few people we met on the beach were local residents and very welcoming. Walking distance from La Casita are three restaurants and a very efficient, and an affordable laundry cleaning business (50 pesos for our load of laundry to be washed, dried, folded for us). All in all, Cathy, the property owner, has been a great communicator. We would definitely enjoy another stay at La Casita.

We always wanted to retire in Mexico some day. We found the property and wonderful community of Todos Santos and knew we were home. We purchased in 2004, then built our casita in 2011 with a lot of patience and love. Our plan is to eventually spend most of our time down there, retirement in paradise! We adore the Mexican culture, the Spanish language, the laid back pace and the outdoors. Being an ecologist and science teacher, we are drawn to the plant and animal life. We spend most of our time outdoors, even if it's just swinging in the hammock and reading. Our girls enjoy it also and have grown up exploring the beach and helping with many baby sea turtle releases and egg recovery. And we're happy to help you connect with nature and the local culture on your visit.

Why they chose this property

Situated north of the desert oasis of Todos Santos, Casita de Luna has privacy, off-road parking, NO dust or traffic & is set back from main roads for a greater sense of security. The casita borders a large expanse of undeveloped cactus forest - unusual for so close to town. The lot and porch face the ocean and porch wraps around to face the 7000 ft Sierra Laguna mountains. Also, a rooftop terraza with 360 degree views provide primo space for dinning outside or drinks. Hammock, recliner, chairs and table available for your extensive hours outdoors relaxing. The house is open and airy, as the French doors allow refreshing breezes to flow through the house. You can even watch whales breaching in the Pacific while washing dishes- close enough to hear them flop! The walk-in shower has plenty of hot water and pressurized for a full flow. Bordering 90+ acres of undeveloped, cactus forest provides one of the best natural settings around Todos. Wildlife abounds, including grey foxes that have denned nearby and osprey that catch their fish and perch in nearby cardon cactus to feast. Not to mention the whale migration and turtle nesting! Mountain biking and horseback riding right in the neighborhood. Todos Santos is a small, friendly community that will engage all your senses and interests, in a relaxed setting! There is an interesting blend of international (US, Canadian, Italian, French) and Mexican cultures here that has produced an eclectic art, entertainment and food scene in town. Some other products of this cultural cross-pollination are the Todos Santos music festival, with both Latin and rock music (in mid to late January), the Festival del Cine/Movie Festival (in March), the gastronomical festival (in spring), and a Mango festival (in summer), as well as many festive Mexican holidays. Casita de Luna is the perfect home base for your day trips into the Sierra Laguna mountains, the old mining town of El Triunfo, La Paz and even busy Cabo San Lucas.
