Private guest cottage with mountain, meadow views, 4 miles from Park entrance

Bedrooms 1
Space 440 sq ft
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

The natural setting is breathtaking for this private guest cottage deep in Salt Creek Canyon at the foot of Case Mountain. Fitting snugly into the the hillside, the 400 square foot cottage has an open floor plan and was designed and built in 1985 as a special home for the host's Grandma. Grandma's favorite color of blue is found in the dishes, carpets, linens and furniture. A panoramic half-circle window frames the Sierra Nevada Foothills and meadow outside, and provides a magnificent framing for the star-studded night sky and the full moon rise from behind the mountains across the canyon.

The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, including microwave, gas stove, refrigerator, coffee maker, and all dishes and cooking utensils. Freshly ground French roast coffee, both regular and decaf, and a wide assortment of herbal teas and English teas, along with cream and sugar is provided. There is an outside flower and herb bed at the level of the kitchen window at the sink.

A TV, equipped with Dish Network, and a DVD player is found in the living room. A distinctive library of books and magazines are available for thoughtful browsing. Iron and ironing board, flashlight, board games, bathing supplies, hair dryer, all linens and other amenities are offered for guests. The cooling system for summer months is a ductless air conditioner which keeps the cottage cool and comfortable, and also heats the cottage in the winter.

There is a queen-size bed, with down comforter in the bedroom area and a futon sofa in the living room which opens to a full-size bed. The futon bed will be made up for you, if you request it or have more than two persons in your party. The bathroom has a tiled step down shower which also doubles as a sit down bath tub. All lines are provided. The open floor plan includes partial walls and curtains between the living room and bedroom area.

The outside deck is made from the circular bottom of a large redwood wine vat. A shade umbrella and table with chairs provide an outdoor living space.

The cottage has a telephone that allows for unlimited long distance calling (in USA only). Only ATT cell phones work in this area. WIFI via satellite internet access is available (limited data use.)

Because the cottage is located in a rural mountain setting, WiFi can only be provided by satellite service with a strict limit for data use. Request password when you arrive at the cottage (any time between 7 am and 9 pm) For any use over 1 gb a day, guests will be charged $10 a gb applied to the damage deposit. Guests will be kept informed of their data use during their stay, so that they can adjust their internet use. No movie streaming, video game streaming or uploading and downloading of large files is allowed. Be very careful using WiFI with smart phones, as many apps run continuously and use lots of data.

Guests’ privacy is respected, so the host will not make extensive contact with you unless you need assistance. No daily housekeeping is provided. If you are staying for several days and need trash removed or extra assistance, let the host know. Guests can use the phone in the cottage to call the host, if needed. Host lives next door in the main house.

Helpful tips, including restaurant menus, brochures for local shops and special services and National Park information can be found in a binder on the kitchen table. A detailed book with helpful information will be on the kitchen table when you arrive. Please take the time to read the first few pages in the book. The cottage is found in a rural residential neighborhood at the end of the road. Both the cottage and the main house are not visible from the road. Hiking and mountain biking is welcomed nearby on the BLM (Bureau of Land Management) land a few yards from the driveway entrance to the cottage.

Smoking is discouraged and only allowed on outside deck. Guests who smoke are requested to use extreme caution especially during fire season. Please do not bring candles to use in the cottage. Outdoor BBQs are not permitted.

The cottage does not accommodate pets (the owner has cats that are not allowed inside the cottage).

Use energy efficiently and do not leave the heating/air conditioning unit on when you are not in the cottage. Respect the dark skies (for amazing star gazing) by not leaving the porch light on at night.

Two night minimum required. Three night minimum for the holiday weekends—Labor Day , Columbus Day, and Memorial Day. Four night minimum for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.

Once your reservation is confirmed, you will be emailed a pdf file with a map and directions for finding the cottage. Print out the pdf file with map and directions on it when you receive the confirmation email. You will need the written directions to find the cottage and to know where to park. Check-in time is any time after 4 pm. The cottage will be left open and ready for you. Please notify host if you will be arriving after dark, so that porch light can be left on for you.

No additional persons may stay at the cottage who are not included in the reservation. You will be required to leave if you arrive with extra people, with no refund of reservation payment.

About Elsah Cort

"I came here as a child in the 50's to visit my aunt and uncle and cousins. We kids would sit in the back of my uncle's pickup truck and drive up to the mountains for special summer days at their cabin. Three Rivers has always drawn me back over the years. I finally moved here in 1977, and have lived in my present home for over 30 years.

The guest cottage is a special service I offer, as I know how important it is for people to connect with nature and slow down from their busy lives (especially to walk among the Big Trees). Over the years I have added special things in the cottage to give comfort, inspiration, and respite for my guests.

Many special moments have happened here. I know there are more to come."

Your host is a collage, multi-media artist and guests can visit her art studio upon request. She is retired nurse who also practices biodynamic craniosacral work. She will assist you with suggestions for enjoying the National Park, finding a good restaurant, and sharing information about the flora and fauna of the area.

Elsah Cort purchased this cottage in 1983

Wonderful private setting looking onto the mountains

  • 5 of 5

Lovely cozy cottage with good lay-out for a couple. Very quiet, private and clean. Enjoyed the cozy deck each morning for coffee when the temperatures were still cool. The scents from the herb garden around the cottage were really heavenly. Close proximity to Sequioa National Park and Mineral King. It is a 2+hour drive to Kings Canyon (worth the trip, but long drive).Had a family of quail who visited every morning, as well as Acorn Woodpeckers. Air conditioner cooled the small cottage off very well within 20-30 minutes of being turned on. Necessary as the daytime temperature was 97-102 when we were there.Well stocked with dishes, cookware and linens. Would have loved to stay much longer!

The Cozy Cort Cottage

  • 5 of 5

The Cort Cottage was a perfect place for our exploration of the area. We only wish we had more time to stay longer. There is so much to see in this area and we barely scratched the surface. It's wonderful to stay in such a quiet picturesque place and have the luxury of preparing our own meals. The owner gave us plenty of privacy, but after seeing her artwork, we just had to meet her.

Beautiful Magical Unique Space Amazing View

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was amazing from the moment you arrive and walk down the path. Every inch of the property inside and out is thought out and decorated with such love and care. The book selections are amazing. The view is amazing. It feels so cozy and inspiring inside the cottage with a great kitchen as well. I would come back here in a heartbeat! I have stayed at many Airbnb’s and vacation rentals and this one stands out due to how much attention the host puts on making the space it’s own experience. We also left with one of her artist collection calanders as well. Her art is very spiritual and is hanging on the walls. This place is a pure unique gem. Do it !!

Sequoia getaway

  • 5 of 5

We arrived after dark and Elsah left us plenty of directions to find our way. It's not easy to find after dark! But when you find it, it's pretty special. It's a small cottage. It worked well for two adults and two young children. It would be ideal for a couple too.

It's a good place as a base from which to explore Sequoia National Park. The cottage has a great small library. The owner is an artist and has a very interesting collection of books on the shelves...which is always fun to explore someone's book collection. The half circle window is a big feature of the room and connects the cottage to the outdoors. The view of the mountains is great.

Loved the place, loved Three Rivers, loved Sequoia!
