Once your reservation is confirmed, you will be emailed a pdf file with a map and directions for finding the cottage. Check-in time is anytime after 4 pm. Print out the pdf file with map and directions on it when you receive the confirmation email. You will need the written directions to find the cottage and to know where to park.

The cottage will be left open and ready for you. Please notify host if you will be arriving after dark, so that porch light can be left on for you. A detailed book with helpful information will be on the kitchen table when you arrive. Please take the time to read the first few pages in the book.

The natural setting is breathtaking for this private guest cottage deep in Salt Creek Canyon at the foot of Case Mountain. Fitting snugly into the the hillside, the 400 square foot cottage has an open floor plan and was designed and built in 1985 as a special home for the host's Grandma. Grandma's favorite color of blue is found in the dishes, carpets, linens and furniture. A panoramic half-circle window frames the Sierra Nevada Foothills and meadow outside, and provides a magnificent framing for the star-studded night sky and the full moon rise from behind the mountains across the canyon.

A TV, equipped with Dish Network, and a DVD player is found in the living room. A distinctive library of books and magazines are available for thoughtful browsing. Iron and ironing board, flashlight, board games, bathing supplies, hair dryer, all linens and other amenities are offered for guests. The cooling system for summer months is a ductless air conditioner which keeps the cottage cool and comfortable, and also heats the cottage in the winter.

The cottage has a telephone that allows for unlimited long distance calling (in USA only). Only ATT cell phones work in this area. WIFI via Exede satellite internet access is available (limited data use.)

Because the cottage is located in a rural mountain setting, WiFi can only be provided by satellite service with a strict limit for data use. Request password when you arrive at the cottage (any time between 7 am and 9 pm) by calling host at 561-4671 using cottage phone. For any use over 1 gb a day, guests will be charged $10 a gb applied to the damage deposit. Guests will be kept informed of their data use during their stay, so that they can adjust their internet use. No movie streaming, video game streaming or uploading and downloading of large files is allowed. Be very careful using WiFI with smart phones, as many apps run continuously and use lots of data.

If you need to do some large file activity via the internet, you can go to the Historical Museum on Highway 198 where they have fast speed DSL with unlimited data use. If the Museum is closed, you can still access the DSL in the parking lot.

The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, including microwave, gas stove, refrigerator, coffee maker, and all dishes and cooking utensils. Freshly ground French roast coffee, both regular and decaf, and a wide assortment of herbal teas and English teas, along with cream and sugar is provided. There is an outside flower and herb bed at the level of the kitchen window at the sink.

There is a queen-size bed, with down comforter in the bedroom area and a futon sofa in the living room which opens to a full-size bed. Extra bed linens, pillows and blankets are found in a cedar chest in the living room. The bathroom has a tiled step down shower which also doubles as a sit down bath tub. All lines are provided. The open floor plan includes partial walls and curtains between the living room and bedroom area.

The outside deck is made from the circular bottom of a large redwood wine vat. A shade umbrella and table with chairs provide an outdoor living space.

Guests’ privacy is respected, so the host will not make extensive contact with you unless you need assistance. Guests can use the phone in the cottage to call the host, if needed. Host lives next door in the main house. Helpful tips, including restaurant menus, brochures for local shops and special services and National Park information can be found in a binder on the kitchen table.

The cottage is found in a rural residential neighborhood at the end of the road. Both the cottage and the main house are not visible from the road. Hiking and mountain biking is welcomed nearby on the BLM (Bureau of Land Management) land at Case Mountain a few yards from the driveway entrance to the cottage.

Sequoia Shuttle reservations can be made for transportation from Three Rivers to Sequoia National Park during the summer months. See Sequoia Shuttle website for details. Also, there is a private sightseeing tour van available year round from Three Rivers to the Park. See Sequoia Sightseeing Tours website for more information. This tour service will pick up guests at the cottage parking area. During the winter months sometimes chains are required to enter the Park. There are several chain rental locations in Three Rivers.

Smoking is discouraged and only allowed on outside deck. Guests who smoke are requested to use extreme caution especially during fire season. Please do not bring candles to use in the cottage. Outdoor BBQs are not permitted.

The cottage does not accommodate pets (the owner has cats that are not allowed inside the cottage).

Use energy efficiently and do not leave the heating/air conditioning unit on when you are not in the cottage. Respect the dark skies (for amazing star gazing) by not leaving the porch light on at night.

No daily housekeeping is provided. If you are staying for several days and need trash removed or extra assistance, let the host know.

No additional persons may stay at the cottage who are not included in the reservation. You will be required to leave if you arrive with extra people, with no refund of reservation payment.

About Elsah Cort

"I came here as a child in the 50's to visit my aunt and uncle and cousins. We kids would sit in the back of my uncle's pickup truck and drive up to the mountains for special summer days at their cabin. Three Rivers has always drawn me back over the years. I finally moved here in 1977, and have lived in my present home for over 30 years.

The guest cottage is a special service I offer, as I know how important it is for people to connect with nature and slow down from their busy lives (especially to walk among the Big Trees). Over the years I have added special things in the cottage to give comfort, inspiration, and respite for my guests.

Many special moments have happened here. I know there are more to come."

Your host is a collage, multi-media artist and guests can visit her art studio upon request. She is retired nurse who also practices biodynamic craniosacral work, with relaxing, gentle bodywork sessions available for guests. She will assist you with suggestions for enjoying the National Park, finding a good restaurant, and sharing information about the flora and fauna of the area.

Elsah Cort purchased this cottage in 1983

Sequoia getaway

  • 5 of 5

We arrived after dark and Elsah left us plenty of directions to find our way. It's not easy to find after dark! But when you find it, it's pretty special. It's a small cottage. It worked well for two adults and two young children. It would be ideal for a couple too.

It's a good place as a base from which to explore Sequoia National Park. The cottage has a great small library. The owner is an artist and has a very interesting collection of books on the shelves...which is always fun to explore someone's book collection. The half circle window is a big feature of the room and connects the cottage to the outdoors. The view of the mountains is great.

Loved the place, loved Three Rivers, loved Sequoia!

Everything we needed in a great location

  • 5 of 5

Elsah was warm and lovely, and we really enjoyed our time in her cottage. My husband, my two elementary school daughters, and I were visiting Sequoia for a few days and wanted a place to stay that was close to the park. Elsah's cottage had everything we needed, even flashlights and different sized coolers so we could easily pack our lunches for the day. There's very little light pollution nearby, so we were able to lie out on the lawn and watch a meteor shower one night. Also, Elsah's binder of information and recommendations is kept up to date so there was really useful current information that we used while we were there. The beds were comfortable, too!

Eclectic cottage with a view

  • 4 of 5

This cozy one room cottage had a beautiful view of the Sierra foothils and was on the edge of the wild.

We enjoyed the daily visits of the California quail covy and other birds from the big picture window.

Breakfast al fresco each morning was a treat.

Elsah's art work adorned the walls and was esthetically pleasing.

Close proximity to the BIG trees in the national park was a big plus as we beat the crowds.

The sunken shower was not for the vertiginous and the place cold have used a good cobwebbing and a real door on the bathroom would have been a plus for my wife.

The price was excellent and the landlord directed us to good places to hike away from the crowds.

Overall a good experience.

Great Stay at Elsah's in Three Rivers

  • 5 of 5

We had a very nice time at Elsah's cottage in Three Rivers. The cottage is cozy with a great view of the mountains. The outside area is landscaped beautifully- even though we were there in winter time we could smell the sage and other native plants that were planted around the property. It was a really relaxing spot to unwind during the Christmas holiday.

Elsah was very available to help out, too, stopping by once to check in, but also leaving us our privacy. She made good recommendations for a really nice local hike (it starts just down the road about 200ft!) and other details about the area. The kitchen, bedroom, bathroom are all set up well with everything necessary to have a comfortable and relaxing stay. Also, there was coffee and cream in the fridge when we arrived!

Lovely country cottage

  • 5 of 5

Elsah's cottage was perfect for our four-night stay to visit Sequioa National Park. It has everything you need (good bed, good shower, good kitchen) and extra touches, like the sunken tiled shower/bath, Elsah's artwork and an excellent book selection. Someday we'll come back when the garden is in bloom and spend the day on the patio watching the sun on the hill across the way. Highly recommended, unless you have trouble with steps. If you eat out, go to the Ol Buckaroo.
