I have lived in this very neighborhood for over16 years, and love it's proximity to all the best that Fort Lauderdale and South Florida have to offer.
Ana purchased this Apartment in 2005
Why Ana chose South Fort Lauderdale
The apartment is in a building with only two others, and is private and quiet, with lush tropical foliage, and a serene feeling. Yet just minutes from our gate, the whole city awaits.
What makes this Apartment unique
Welcome to the capital of the Caribbean! More than 50% of the South Florida population comes from the Caribbean or countries that lie in the tropics and subtropics of Latin America. Our neighborhood is one of the original historic Fort Lauderdale sites. It has an eclectic mix of people that love to walk their dogs, jog, ride bikes, go to our hidden little Riverside market and pub, Not resort-y, but comfortable, and casual. It's urban, working class, where we all have known each other for years.

Clean inside, not the safest area. Would not stay again.
. I will list the pros and cons not to talk negative but to share our experience for future travelers inquiring.
Clean inside. private patio and grill
Very comfy king bed and good dresser space and closet space
Close to interstate.
Ana communicated promptly with my questions
Befire I booked this I asked Ana if this was a safe neighborhood that we can walk around in and she told me that it is and you can walk around At night etc. This is not true. It’s a run down neighborhood and did not appear safe. and someone that lives in this complex that we met at the pool told us it’s not really the safest and I was told false information.
Ana told me there is a Walmart close by and when we got there we found out it was in the “hood area” of town.
The outside of the apt is not that well kept up.
The bathroom tile was not put in properly so there was constantly sand coming out of the edges onto the floor.
There is no house number on the outside of the building so we had to drive around for 15 min trying to find the place which was frustrating after 8 hours of traveling.
The few reviews (and the reviews that are listed are not recent) should have been a red flag to me.
Owners have limited space to reply, so I will have to run-on. I purchased my home in this neighborhood 20 years ago, just one street from the apartment. Homes here go for $350K land side, up to $850K for waterfront. Mixed in are some rental properties. I think I'm qualified to know if this is a safe place. Don't mean to make a “liar” of the “someone” who said otherwise, while lounging at the pool, because he/she? is being forced to live here? The new Walmart SuperCenter has many national retailers, such as Chipotle Krispy Kreme Wells Fargo etc. It's on the main street, just 2 miles from the center of the city(not town), and a much-needed addition. The “hood area” implies what exactly? So I'm waiting outside for arrival, and saw the guest drive right by me several times as I waved and repeatedly called the cell phone to no avail. The hurricane had blown parts of the fence and gates off, and they were in process of being replaced, so “outside is not well-kept, but the patio was great”? Buildings here are set on a concrete foundations. There's not one loose tile, and no sand coming up, because we don't set tile on sand. That would come from being at the beach. The reviews are not ancient, and I list on different sites, for longer term stays, so there would not be many reviews on this one site. I also have a couple who stay intermittently for 6+months every year. Checking the calendar, you'd see it is blocked through spring of 2019. It's amazing what one can fabricate in order to justify what is in their head. You can't just get in your car or on a plane and go without knowing anything about where you're going. True story: a handyman I knew was talking about his wedding and mentioned that they had gone on a honeymoon cruise. I asked how he had liked it, and he answered “I hated it”. I asked why, and he said because it was “full of honeymooners”. South Florida is the 8th largest metropolis in the country, not a little sea town, even if it doesn't seem that way when at the beach. When staying in our neighborhoods for a few nights, you are experiencing what it's like to live here, be a local, of which more than 55% are of Caribbean & Latin American descent, African American, and other non-white humans. If this scares you, then this is not the place to visit. Or, you can quadruple your the budget, stay in resorts or other beach rentals, and know that the locals who work all day and night to cater to your needs, at the end of the day will go back to our “hoods”.
Clean. Friendly. Secluded from the masses and yet close to everything
Ana was a great, accommodating host and this 1 2nd was More than ample. Comfy bed n chairs. Kitchen well stocked with more than you'll ever use. Back door enters to your own private courtyard. Pool centrally located, also sits in its own private oasis. See you soon.
Hi Ken, So very happy you enjoyed your time here, and look forward to seeing you again. Thanks for taking the time to post your review.
It was a comfortable stay in a lower middle class neighborhood. Ana is a loving host.
The kitchen is complete with everything you may need, the Queen Bed is comfortable to sleep on, it is a well lit ground floor compact condo.
Ana would not charge us for a broken Table Lamp, I found that was very generous, you may not find many hosts who would extend that courtesy.
We stayed for 4 nights, Ana was very helpful.
Hi Raj Orland Doc! thanks for your review. It was nice to meet you and your wife, and am very happy to hear you enjoyed your 3 day break. Hopefully next time you will have a chance to explore the neighborhood beyond our courtyard, as it seems odd that you should choose to place a class on what is an eclectic group of homes, condos, and apartments, as diverse as the people who occupy them. I realize it is easy to judge us all based on 3 small buildings on the main road entry. But unlike many new, suburan, cookie-cutter developments, Fort Lauderdale downtown is an old city, a landmark city, and like all cities, it's neighborhoods are urban settings. In this very neighborhood and 1 block away, you will find that many homes are waterfront and sell from $500k-$2mil. There are condo and land side homes from the upper $200k, there are apartment buildings that cater to the young, and the newly relocated, and to blue collar workers. Not at all homoginized. The neighborhood is blocks to Riverwalk, Broward Center For Performing Arts, the Discovery Museum, Las Olas Blvd restaurants, and other city center hot spots. It boasts one of the last remaining swing bridges in the entire state (Snow-Reed Bridge). There is a small waterfront park with walking trail, picnic area, and children's playground. Blocks away, our community center hosts many events throughout the year, including artists and artisans living in our neighborhood, picnic and movie nights on the lawn, and neighborhood cook-outs. It also has tennis courts, a basketball court, and playground. Just across the street is a rare find in the very middle of a neighborhood; it's own café. The Riverside Market Café is rated in top 10 hotspots in all of Fort Lauderdale. In our rental home, we have 3 families, each come for 1 month every year, for the past 8 years, choosing to forgo any other location in South Florida. I say 'our' because I purchased my home in this neighborhood in 2000, my sister also lives here, and I purchased the apartment building in 2005 (only a block away from me) because it is a great neighborhood, not definable by one class. I look forward to giving you a tour when you come back.
Cute little Floridian apartment..
Great place to stay! Super clean and Ana was a pleasure to deal with! Pool was amazing as we spent 5 days in it just relaxing! Will definitely come back!
Thank you Lana!
Relaxing and well located
The property is going through improvements at the moment, new central A/C system has been installed and the decoration is a little behind, this notwithstanding, the property has everything that one would want by way of all the necessary conveniences for a relaxing stay. The pool area is a tranquil oasis where one can really leave the world behind and the property is located close to the junction of the I-95 and well located for either downtown Ft Lauderdale or the shopping at Broward Mall and Sawgrass Mills.
Ana the owner is a lovely lady who negated any potential issue with alacrity and was very helpful.
