Overview

About the property

Just built 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom, spacious home w/ 2 stone fireplaces & views

*** The Aviary was just completed in December 2014 -- book now to secure your vacation stay at the newest luxury rental home in Massanutten! ***

Enter this brand new, luxury home from the lower level deck into the spacious rec room with full-size pool table, a couch area with large screen, smart TV, a PS-4 game system, and a wet bar. This room was built for fun, and you'll find a closet stacked with board games for hours of entertainment.

On one side of the rec room is a large bunk room kids will love, featuring two sets of bunkbeds (4 beds total, 2 fulls and 2 twins). On the other side of the rec room is another large bedroom with 2 queen beds. A full bathroom off the rec room is shared by both bedrooms. A reading 'cave' for kids is tucked under the stairwell.

Head upstairs to the main room in the lodge, featuring a floor to ceiling stone fireplace (gas), 24' vaulted, gorgeous tongue and groove ceilings and beams, tons of sky high windows, and a kitchen with granite countertops, copper sink, and all new appliances, cookware, and dinnerware.

While the chef cooks, keep him company on the leather stools at the granite island, or lounge on the comfy sofas in front of the fire, then sit down all together as a big group at the huge farmhouse style dining table.

On either side of the main room of the lodge are two master bedrooms, each with vaulted ceilings, king beds and full baths. One features matching tongue and groove ceilings as in the main room, plus a huge all-tile master shower. The other full bath features a bath/shower combo.

Off the living room and off of each master bedroom, you'll find a large second floor deck with great views of the mountains, a sleeping bed, and a seating area inside a screened in porch with a huge stone fireplace (gas). Sit outside at night with the fireplace and enjoy the sounds of the mountain!

Off the kitchen, in the backyard, you'll find a covered patio with a large gas grill, and a wooded hill that kids will love to explore.

The house backs to a national forest, so there's nothing behind it but trees, deer, and adventures in the making.

This home is located inside the Massanutten Resort and very close to many of the activities and amenities -- you can be at most activities within 3 minutes by car.

We provide linens/pillows for all beds. When you arrive you will find they are all made up for you, ready to go, unlike many rental homes in the resort. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to cook and serve meals -- just bring your food.

We also provide a pack-n-play and a high-chair in the house for those with babies (bring your own linens for the pack-n-play).

In the summer, we provide a Guest Pass so that our visitors can use the private Owners' Swimming Pool in the resort - just up the road.

Non-Smoking, No Pets Property: This is a non-smoking property. Smoking is not allowed anywhere on the property (outside or inside). And although we understand that many pet lovers travel with their furry friends, this home does not allow pets.

About Monica

The owners are natives of Texas and California, but have lived in Virginia long enough to fall in love with its mountains and wanted a second home to enjoy and share with friends and family.

Monica purchased this house in 2014

Why Monica chose Shenandoah Valley

The owners love this lot, because it is so private at the end of a cul-de-sac. It has great views of the mountain in the front, and backs to a national forest.

What makes this house unique

The owners selected this floor plan for the home because of its beautiful main room with high, beamed ceilings, the fact that all 4 bedrooms are totally private from each other, and the great living, rec, and outdoor spaces that it provides for families and friends to gather, relax, and have fun.

Great time had by all........

  • 5 of 5

Our group had 3 couples who stayed at the Aviary for a week to do some motorcycle riding and local sightseeing. The home is beautiful and well equipped with all the essentials we needed for the week. It was nice to be able to sit at the large dining table and talk with everyone at the end of a day. My wife also loved curling up on the large outdoor swing on the deck and reading at the end of the day.

The neighbors are very friendly and so is the wildlife that roams the area. The deer share the outdoors with everyone and don't seem to mind people around. The resort is well kept and the food in the resort area is great. We had a great time and I'm sure if you stay here your experience will be the same!

An exquisite retreat

  • 5 of 5

Though we live only an hour away, I had not visited Massanutten in many years. When my grandchildren visited us from NY during their spring break, I looked for activities for them and recalled hearing great things about the indoor water park. Once on the mountain, I was impressed with the improvements and additions.

Having lost our son unexpectedly shortly after the new year, we decided that it might be good to do something different for our family summer holiday. Having driven about the resort the day we came to the water park, I checked on line and found The Aviary. There were 8 of us total for the week, including 4 kids ages 10-14; I cannot imagine a more perfect house for our purposes. The floor plan allowed for plenty of gathering space as well as for solitude if preferred--the deck and porch are marvelous! The openness of the main level was great, so that even when preparing meals, there was never a sense of being isolated.

The Aviary is well equipped--from the kitchen, to the game closet. Every detail seems to have been anticipated and the house was immaculate upon our arrival. The Aviary is located within the resort so that any activity was never more than a few minutes drive. The kids had a blast with all of the offerings of Massanutten, from the zip lines, to horseback riding to tubing down the Shenandoah River.

I spent most of my time at the house, never tiring of the magnificent views and peacefulness of the wooded surroundings. The Aviary was good for my soul. I look forward to returning.

Beautiful vacation home! Wonderful place to stay.

  • 5 of 5

The Aviary was a wonderful place for our extended family of 12 to stay in July. The home is beautiful, comfortable and clean - and there was plenty of room for everyone. Being on a cul-de-sac was nice for the kids to play ball out front. Walking around the neighborhood was great exercise in the morning. The resort of Massanutten was very nice (you will love the deer!), but we also spent a lot of time outside of it. Make sure you take a horseback ride at Mountaintop Ranch (www.mountaintopranch.com) for a 360 degree view of the mountains, and go for ice cream at Grammie's! Everything we needed was in the home and Monica was very sweet and helpful. Highly recommend!

Great Home!

  • 4 of 5

I have rented many properties through the VRBO/Homeaway network over the years and the Aviary, by far, was one of the nicest. The Aviary is a new build, beautifully furnished, spacious (easily accommodated our party of 5 adults and 3 children) and had a fully stocked kitchen, TV's, pool table and gas grill. I would highly recommend this home for anyone considering a trip to the Massanutten Resort. The 4 star rating was given because, as a guest of the homeowners, rather than the resort, you were not authorized to use some of the resort amenities. Both the Le Club and Woodststone Recreation Centers, which feature indoor pools, basketball court, racquetball court, tennis courts, were off limits. We were only authorized to use the outdoor pool (which was very nice) at the Stonewall Terrace Center but the admission cost was $5.00 per person, per entry. While I had fully expected to pay for many of the activities at the resort (water park, mini-golf, go-carts, mountain coaster, etc.), the exclusion from using the other recreation facilities was not known and probably should have been mentioned in the home description. I was aware that guests could purchase resort activity passes which entitled holders to use some of the facilities but the cost was quite high. Overall, our party enjoyed our stay in the Aviary home.
