About John and Patti Lafleur

During the past 15 years, I visited Hawaii at least once a year, sometimes more. I developed a love for the islands that did not diminish as time progressed. Rather it grew into a passion . When I retired ,on the mainland, there was only one place I could think of living. That was, of course the Big Island of Hawaii. I occasionally leave to visit other places and people, but I always rejoice when My flight touches down in Hilo.

John and Patti Lafleur purchased this house in 2002

Why John and Patti Lafleur chose Volcano

I searched, looking at many other places. When I visited Volcano Village I knew I was home. This property appealed to me specifically because of it's potential as a possible vacation rental site. It took a number of years to progress from a dream to a reality, but it has turned out to be all I had hoped it would be.

My greatest joy is sharing my beautiful home and Island with my guest's.

Mahalo [Thank You , in Hawaiian]

What makes this house unique

The two houses are not luxurious by any means. They were built for people like you and me. What makes them special, I suppose, is the location. A walk in our native Hawaiian rain forest and listening to the birds in the tree tops as they drink the nectar from the flowering Ohia's is wonderful. The giant Hapu's [Hawaiian Tree Ferns] fronds swaying in the breeze. Even during our rainy periods, [Rain fall measured in feet instead of inches], it is obvious that this is one of God's special places. The hectic life style of the cities and freeway traffic are left far behind as the lucky guest's partake of the peace and tranquility that has become so rare in our world today

This is the most amazing, beautiful place ever. The grounds are out of this world, pineapples growing in yard and a little trail through the fern tee grove. The home is beautifully decorated and the ability to do the laundry in the house is very convenient. We didn’t meet Patti, but John is super nice and helpful. It is 5 minuets from volcano park, so you can come and go as you please. There is everything you could possibly need, including fresh coffee beans and a grinder. Bottled water is provided. I would have rated it higher, but the site only had 5 stars.

Convenient, clean, near the volcanoes

  • 4 of 5

Excellent choice for being near volcanoes. The owner is nearby and made it very easy for us to pick up the key. The whole house was very clean and well stocked with "stuff" that makes staying for a few days MUCH easier. It was great seeing the active volcano at night and only driving for 10 minutes to return to the room.

Lovely, well appointed and relaxing; convenient to Volcano Village and National Park

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed at this property in the Volcano Village area while visiting Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The house is much larger than it appears from the photos, and was spotlessly clean and nicely furnished. Lovely kitchen was stocked with everything you could want. We had two couples each traveling with two teenage children. The house easily provided for 8 people, with each couple having a sizeable bedroom with a comfortable bed, and the kids slept on the two fold-out futons in the living room. Sharing the one bathroom was not a problem. We had coffee and breakfast out on the little covered patio in the morning and watched the morning rain. The house is very close to the national park and to the businesses in Volcano Village. The owners were great about communicating with us; John stopped by to see if we had any questions or needed anything (they live in the house right next door, so are available if anything should come up). Our security deposit was refunded promptly. It was a great experience all around. This would not necessarily be the place to stay if you want a "stand alone" type of vacation spot with extreme privacy, but as a home base for the Volcano area it was perfect. Thank you, John and Patti, for a lovely stay and for your hospitality!

Convenient Location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here two nights in June 2017. We had two couples, so two bedrooms with large beds was helpful. John greeted us and was very helpful. Place was clean and had everything we needed. All the houses in the area are on catchment water systems, but the owners of this house provide bottled water dispensers. That's a nice touch. This location is great for visiting Volcano National Park. About 5 minutes from park and about 2 minutes from Volcano Village.

Wonderful home next to Volcano National Park!

  • 5 of 5

We left John and Patty's beautiful guest house yesterday. It was a perfect home base for our family adventure at Volcano National Park. The photos do not do it justice. It really is a little gem of a place - cozy, well-stocked kitchen, spotlessly clean, great beds, beautiful jungle garden setting, lots of singing tropical birds, and very Hawaiian! Our group consisted of three adults and five children between the ages of 5-17. We had plenty of room. The house was 4 minutes from the park entrance which was a huge bonus. The house is right next to John and Patty's house so they are always available to help with any needs. We would definitely stay here again. Oh, and we really loved the amazing fresh flowers in the house. It smelled heavenly!
