Charming 1914 Craftsman Home

Bedrooms 2
Space 950 sq ft
Property type bungalow
Minimum Stay 2 - 4 nights

About the property

Gorgeous and charming 2 bedroom, 1 bath Craftsman in beautiful setting.

A 1914 charming Craftsman home offering a cozy and peaceful ambiance. The home features a large living and dining room filled with natural light and tasteful antique furniture. An open floor plan extends the ambiance from the living room into the dining room. The dining room has an antique sofa and period chandelier for the optimal dining room setting.

There are two bedrooms with a walk through bathroom. The space is warm, ideal for two people and comfortable with four. The master bedroom has a queen size comfortable pillowtop mattress with luxury linens, down comforter and bathrobes. The guest room has a full size bed with a memory foam mattress, luxury linens and bathrobes.

The kitchen is fully stocked and ready to support the preparation of a gourmet meal. Enjoy your gourmet meal on the front porch, a beautiful setting with a dining area framed by beautiful trees and flowers. The 'dining room' on the front porch provides the perfect spot for morning or evening dining.

Creating beautiful interior and exterior spaces is a passion of mine, and the gardens that surround this home delight the senses. Garden beds are planted with fruits, vegetables and herbs, and guests are encouraged to harvest from the garden.

The house is set back from an eclectic urban neighborhood and the space can be surprisingly quiet for being in the middle of this active area of Eugene. At times, you may hear music and or neighborhood festivities. When you are ready to explore the historic Whiteaker neighborhood, there are many appealing options for dining, sampling craft beers and wines or hearing music within walking distance.

A separate rental cottage is located behind the house, and both the house and cottage are private, noise-free spaces. Together, the house and cottage are comfortable for up to 7 people, and both are available as vacation rentals, if you are looking to host your family or friends for a special event or holiday.

Named for Oregon's first Governor, the historic Whiteaker is considered Eugene's most eclectic neighborhood. Entrepreneurs have established popular venues in this neighborhood to share their culinary, musical, brewing and wine making talents. Most recently, the Whiteaker has become identified as Eugene's brewery district. Recently earning accolades from Esquire magazine as one of America's best bars, Sam Bond's Garage is an iconic night spot showcasing regional musicians on an almost-nightly basis. The Whiteaker neighborhood is best for folks who have a tolerance for human diversity, and do not mind occasional interactions with transients. The neighborhood is safe, but a touch more exhilarating than typical surburbia.

A mix of commercial and residential establishments, enjoy the serenity of the Craftsman or walk in any direction to enjoy this creative and active neighborhood.

The gorgeous Willamette River is only a few blocks away and easily accessed by walking 10 minutes north of the Craftsman. Enjoy a run, bicycle ride or walk along this gorgeous river that runs through the town of Eugene.

About Eve

Engaging, friendly host interested in people and creative endeavors. I spend my time running a local non-profit organization that protects and enhances land and water through collaborative processes, research, design and habitat restoration efforts. I also have a business in interior design, creating beautiful and comfortable living spaces for myself and others. I have established the gardens around the home to create a peaceful, beautiful setting with the hope of providing an oasis for guests to relax into and enjoy.

Eve purchased this bungalow in 2009

Why Eve chose Whiteaker

I love the architecture of the old homes in the Whiteaker neighborhood. There are a lot of trees that surround many of the homes in this area, creating a sense of nature among the architectural aesthetic I enjoy. The neighborhood is also lively with a mix of people from many facets of life, providing diversity and a sense of community.

What makes this bungalow unique

Serene oasis very close to the excitement of the Whiteaker neighborhood. Walking distance to the beautiful Willamette River, many restaurants, breweries and wineries.

Delightful sanctuary in the city

  • 5 of 5

As soon as you step through the gate, the privacy of the garden makes you feel removed from the city. Not far from various breweries and wine tasting rooms, we were able to experience local culture and well as spend some nurturing time at the property reposing in the lovely spaces (garden, porch, and inside). Well-cared for, this home will provide everything you need for a comfortable stay. In addition, a garden outside was for our consumption with everything from herbs, berries, lettuce, tomatoes, and peppers. How thoughtful! My only suggestion: a salad spinner for the kitchen. Otherwise, the stay was simply perfect!

Eve was a gracious host and her attention to detail is prevalent throughout the property.

Owner's Response: A pleasure to host you!! I very much agree with you....a salad spinner would be great in the kitchen. It's on the list!

Great location

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed in the cottage for three nights and really enjoyed being in walking distance to many top notch restaurants and breweries. The house is in a lovely setting with many trees surrounding it which make it very private but a little on the dark side. No TV. And. I never really understood why I had to put all the linens and towels in the washing machine by 10 am upon check out. We did pay a cleaning fee. Eve always answered any queries promptly which we really appreciated.

Owner's Response: I am pleased you and your husband enjoyed the house and location of the Craftsman. The system of having the guests start one load of laundry eliminates 1 hour of the cleaner’s time, allowing me to charge a minimal cleaning fee while providing an impeccably clean house for guests.

Gorgeous craftsman house, comfortable base for Eugene

  • 4 of 5

This craftsman has been meticulously restored, and the woodwork, fittings, furniture, etc. are really quite exquisite. Kitchen & dining make cooking meals a real possibility, though we only did that one night. Two bedrooms not huge, & they share a bath, but the living room is spacious - lots of room to stretch out your legs and relax. The neighborhood feels a little sketchy, to be honest, though a block or two to the north & west are a number of interesting restaurants and a very cool brewery w/ a patio that's excellent in warm weather.

beautiful little Craftsman in ideal location!

  • 5 of 5

Love this little place! super clean and very cozy! the ideal location for walking around Whitaker area and along the riverbank. Lots of charm and a great outdoor area in front and back. We made breakfast twice in the very well stocked kitchen. The owner was a breeze to work with. Beds and linens were comfortable, my only recommendation would be an option for some firmer pillows. The ones on the bed weren't really pillows anymore. Would highly recommend this little gem! Thank you for letting us stay!

Very cozy spot

  • 4 of 5

We stayed a weekend at this cozy spot with our two small children and it was very comfortable. The outdoor dining nook on the front porch surrounded by blooming camellias is so charming, and the house feels very private and cozy.
