About Julie Blenn
I have lived in spectacularly beautiful places all my life, and now seek them out as places to have my vacation rentals, where I also visit for several months/ year. I visited Hawaii a number of times, then lived in the small town of Volcano for 6 months and always wanted to come back to the east side of the Big Island, so now my dream is coming true, and I get to share that with you ! I hike, swim, dive, kayak, snorkel, savor good sushi, and love to photograph, and it's all right here !! I have been in the guest and tourist industry my whole life, so making people happy with my rentals is a natural . I have owned gorgeous vacation rentals since 2005 !
Julie Blenn purchased this Condo in 2015
Why Julie Blenn chose Hilo
THE VIEW !!!! And the peace and quiet, punctuated by the crashing waves . I love the proximity of all the great swimming, snorkeling, and surfing places all around, plus Hilo and lots of fabulous restaurants are very close. I looked at 14 other condos before choosing this one, which I immediately fell in love with.
What makes this Condo unique
Best view of any of the condos in town, including the ones in this development. The lanai gets the morning sun, then gets shaded after the sun gets high- perfect for enjoying breakfast, and hanging out on later . Central to recreation, restaurants, museums, shopping, botanical gardens, close to Volcano Park, yet distant enough to be in the country. Also, my guests tell me it is the best maintained one they have seen !
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Best secret hideaway in Hilo
My experience staying at Julie’s lovely condo with a panoramic ocean view was Fantastic. I had lived in the Keaukaha area for many years as a younger person therefore I knew The area well and at the condo building well. I felt comfortable, safe and right at home. This location is the absolute best in all of Hilo. It is easily assessable to everything and every place you’d like to go, including the surrounding areas and the best part is that it’s very private and just the right amount of distance out of Hilo’s busier areas. The most beautiful snorkeling beaches with many Honu (turtles) is just a short walk. The comfortable bed and large Lanai was a real plus. The swimming pool is kept immaculately clean therefore I enjoyed it on an every day basis. For all of you people who would much rather go to Kona (Big Is) or Maui...forget it! If you want a peaceful, beautiful area...stay in Keaukaha at this serene waterfront condo.
KC was the ultimate guest. She was easy to deal with, stayed in contact so I could suggest great places for her to go, s she had not been in the area in many years, and then gave me great reviews of the places I sent her to. I'm glad this was a great historical revisit for her and that she enjoyed staying where she did. When she lived in the same condo building before, she lived in a unit that was not as nice as mine, which she let me know and said she really appreciated being in mine. KC, you are welcome any time! And thanks for the great review.
We had a great stay. The location is fantastic; it was so great to see and hear the ocean all the time, and we watched whales and dolphins from the lanai. The area below the condo was great for swimming or just watching turtles. Julie's place is really great - clean, organized, and well equipped with pretty much everything anyone needs. The furniture and bed were very comfortable. We had a great stay and didn't want to go home at the end of our month. We would rent from her again when we have the opportunity to stay that long.
These guests were fantastic : super easy to communicate with, and very appreciative of my place. They have stayed in the Puna area in the past, and it was really a treat to be able to host them in Hilo.
Best location in all of Hilo!
Pros: Wonderful view of the ocean in the sunniest part of Hllo. Very quiet building. Very well equipped kitchen.
Cons: Bad back so needed a much firmer bed and no couch to sleep on instead.
More like a studio with a sliding door to shut off bed.
It IS a studio , as advertised, with doors all around so that the bedroom can be closed off from the rest of the home.
These people are the very first ones to EVER say anything negative about the bed : all my other guests LOVE it. I even had one guest ask where he could get one just like it back on the mainland. I have never in 13 years of renting had guests who complained about so many things. From the minute they arrived they called me with a list of things that were "wrong" with the place, mostly errors on their parts of not figuring out how to work things so they decided to tell me instead that things were broken. They called a repairman WITHOUT ASKING ME to "fix" the bed. He put in another bedframe, which did nothing so they complained- AGAIN. They also insisted I pay for the new frame and labor ! Then they called to ask if I could replace the box spring , which they had decided must be broken and therefore the source of their problem. I said no, and they then looked at it and decided it was not broken, so they took the bed apart to give the "bad back" my memory foam mattress topper to sleep on- on the floor ! They ripped it in 2 places putting it back on, over the mattress cover ( I had to take it apart and make it right) ! Now I understand why these guests have stayed in so many places in the area : no one wants to rent to them- myself included. Never again !
5/5 would recommend staying at this apartment.
My experience at this apartment was wonderful. The place was very clean and organized. I stayed there for 2 months and felt very safe and comfortable there.
What will you miss the most after you leave ? The view of the ocean 24/7
Did you like the kitchen and amenities, for example, or the cushy bed ? The kitchen and amenities were perfect, I had all of the utensils to cook my meals for the two months I lived there. The bed was comfortable.
Was the view relaxing, the sunsets and sunrises spectacular? The sunrises were amazing to wake up to. The sun sets were not visible from our apartment.
Did you enjoy the ocean sounds, lounging on the lanai, swim in the pool ? The pool was nice and clean. The ocean sounds were relaxing. Nice sized lanai to read a book on.
What were your favorite things nearby ? Carlsmith beach, Richardson beach
Did you enjoy the Farmers Markets ? The bigger farmers markets are on Wednesdays and Saturday's. The market is open every day of the week and is great to get your produce at.
What were your favorite restaurants nearby ? Cafe pesto was the best Italian food, the Santa Fe pasta was delicious there. I also loved Mo's fish and chips. For ice cream I loved Kozmic Cones. For smoothie bowls go to the Makani's magic pineapple shack or Kula Shaved Ice. For shaved ice, go to either Kula Shaved Ice or Big Island Shaved Ice. For smoothies, or frappes go to Cruisin Coffee.
Did you go to any shows, or gardens, or fabulous parks ? Our favorite park was the Narnia Waterfalls.
Did you enjoy the coqui chorus singing you to sleep ? The coqui sounds did not bother my sleep. I personally like hearing outdoor noises at night.
Did you take a ride to view the lava ? How was that show ? I went to the new black sand beach, but the lava is no longer flowing.
Was I helpful and informative as a host ? Very helpful.
Would you refer friends to stay at my condo ? Yes, great spot to stay on vacation or travel nursing.
These two sisters were fabulous guests. Very sweet and easy to work with, and thrilled to visit Hawaii.
The sunset can be seen from the Lanai at certain times of the year, just not at the time they were there. There are always spectacular sunrises that you see from all through the condo. I have provided heavy Shades and curtains for people who prefer not to see the sunrise.
Besides the farmers markets these guests listed, there are many more all throughout the island. All of them have different character, and are therefore lots of fun to see various ones.
There's so much to see and do on the island, that a month is hardly enough time to see what you would like. These people stayed two months and had a great time.
Best place I have ever stayed on the Big Island !
I have been visiting the Islands for several decades and stayed in everything from B and B's to condos. I have even stayed in places off the grid, primitive with spider webs in the corners but the sheets were clean. This condo is spectacular !!
From the minute I opened the door to THAT VIEW- WOW !!! I was in love with it. The I realized the sound of the ocean was with me all the time, and I was hooked.
Everything in the condo is comfortable, clean, well cared for, and makes being there very relaxing. The kitchen even had ceramic pans , sharp knives, lots of storage containers, and everything else I needed to prepare and save the delicious foods I created from the Farmers Markets findings added to the Suisan Fish Market slices. Yum !!
The location is perfect. Close to all the fun activities, next to lots of swimming places, several great restaurants nearby, plus a gorgeous private swimming pool . I even had my own parking place under an awning off the street. Who could ask for more ?
The owner, Julie, was really helpful , sending lists of activities and places of interest that I would not have found or even thought of otherwise. She even turned me onto a great deal on a car rental. Thank you !
Aww, thanks for the review ! So glad you enjoyed your stay, and I look forward to hosting you again next year.
Hilo Farmers Market and the Fish Market are not to be missed ! Volcano National Park, where you can sometimes see flowing lava, is 20 minutes south. Lots of hiking and history, lava tubs, and a great restaurant there.Green Sands and Black Sands beaches , Kona 2 hours across the island, north part of the island is lush with huge waterfalls and steep canyons . Parker Ranch and Mauna Kea are nearby. Mauna Kea has the world's clearest Observatory !
