Why Gretchen Anderson chose Bethel
We had always loved this incredibly beautiful historic home in Bethel, and were honored when we were able to purchase it. The location is ideal, being on a dead end of the maine street in town, ensuring privacy while being on the country club and walking distance to everything. We painstakingly restored the home to its original splendor, while updating it with modern conveniences. We love the home, and look forward to sharing it with you.
What makes this House unique
Location, Location, Location! You truly don't need a car once you arrive. Oh, and the house is amazing! And the location- with a country club in the back yard!

Family Gathering Celebrating 50th Anniversary
Bingham House had plenty of space for 6 adults and 5 Grandchildren, ages 17-9. It offered everything for the Grandkids to entertain themselves (game room, pool table, a skittle machine, videos, movies, bikes, badminton). For the adults there was a hot tub, fire pit, great decks with grills, large TV and many others throughout the house. Kitchen and pantry were very well stocked and made it very easy for cooking meals and cleanups. The ability to use the Bethel Inn pool and Lake House was really a great bonus. All the recommendations that Gretchen suggested in the area were terrific and we did quite a few of them. We all had such a great time that we definitely would consider going back and enjoying it again!!
A little piece of heaven
It was as close to perfect as I've ever experienced. The house was immaculate, spacious, and beautifully appointed inside and out. Virtually everything we needed was at our fingertips. Bingham House is a journey back in time - clearly a better time! There were 15 of us staying there - 8 adults and 7 grandchildren - our whole family. An added bonus was the town and surrounding area with swimming holes, forests to explore, and peaceful quiet. Gretchen Anderson - the owner - was a huge help all through the process. One often plans things and then hopes for the best. This was far better than we could have imagined! It was unforgettable!
Oxford county Gem
This historic property is walking distance to all of the main parts of Bethel with restaurants and shops and the amenities of the country club. After eating so well, the stroll is a welcome addition to the routine. Bethel seems to have a successful craft brew scene and a quality independent restaurant vibe including some funky ( in a good way) food trucks.
The area boasts lots of outdoor experiences from biking, to swimming, and of course hiking some of the most beautiful trails that the east coast has to offer. Levels of difficulty are relative, so check your trail guides carefully. In the winter it would be a great place to stay for Sunday River skiing only a few miles up the mountain.
Mt Washington only a hour drive, Portland just a little more east.
Bingham House is steeped in historical tea. The house has the best appointed kitchen with plenty of quality cookware and utensils and dishes for more than a family of 12 to enjoy. Three floors spread out bedrooms as so no one feels crowded. The back yard is plenty big for kids, and the front porch is wonderful for enjoy coffee and the paper before the kids wake up. You can clearly see how the owners have cultivated a house to feel like a home.
The owner is attentive and gives great advice of what to do and local insight.
It was fun to stay at the Bingham House.
Lovely Bingham House in Bethel!
Staying at the Bingham House in Bethel, Maine was such a wonderful experience for our family. The owners have appointed the home with everything that makes it feel very much like “home” and you’re completely comfortable as soon as you walk through the door. It’s a delight for both adults and children with lots to do and see. There were 13 in our party and everyone had plenty of space to call their own.
The town of Bethel is so quaint and just a short walk away. A very happy place that we really enjoyed!
Well equipped and stocked house. Great activities near by
Excellent for family gathering
We had a fantastic time at the Bingham House! The owner, Gretchen, was very responsive and gave us lots of suggestions on things to do and see in the area. We walked to dinner and enjoyed the charming Bethel Village. The house itself was huge, super fun, and very comfortable. We loved the playroom, the arcade, the pool table, volleyball and hot tub. The yard is great too, but we particularly enjoyed the lake house. We highly recommend a vacation at the Bingham House!
