Property Details

Updated: Dec 3, 2016
Waterfront 2 BR, 2 Baths Home with Office, Great River Views, Close to all Shops

The Snowdrop House, made available for the first time June 1, 2015, is situated north of the McHenry Dam on the bank of the Fox River in Illinois' most popular recreational area, the Chain O'Lakes.

The Snowdrop House, of Cottage Style architecture, sits high and dry on the bank of the Fox River (100 ft. frontage) on a beautiful open yet wooded lot with all enclosed, fenced in yard. The yard is maintained to offer that much sought after outdoors and natural northern woods environment.

The View is just wonderful and unobstructed over the landscaped yard onto the Fox River from great room, bedroom, office, dining room, as well as the huge deck that is perfect for dining with BBQ at side, bird watching, enjoying river atmosphere. Two (2) over-sized docks, each extending 30 ft. over the river, are ideal for sun-bathing or fishing.

The exterior of the home as well as the interior is professionally maintained.

Original details like wood floor, wall finish, and 11 ft. high ceiling has been maintained and up-grades have been made to modernize, e.g., open floor plan from kitchen into dining room. Kitchen has new custom cabinets, granite counter, new Bosch and GE appliances. Dining room has TV nook; bathroom has new power flush toilet, double sink, wood-like tile floor, and shower tile complimenting the pine wood. On lower level is a personal care area with shower as well as washer and dryer.

This resort style home is all about easy and relaxed living indoors as well as outdoors.

The location is ideal, private and quiet yet only 5 minutes from all shopping and dining offered in McHenry, a town with about 27,500 people that bills itself as the Heart of the Fox River and is only about 10 miles from the Wisconsin border. The Fox River, 45 miles of it, connects 15 lakes that make up the Chain O'Lakes (http://www.wttw.com/main.taf?p=31,1) .

Hike McHenry's Moraine Hills State Park, the park by McHenry Dam, Volo Bog. Rent a bike and go over to Peterson Park and from there take the bike path to Genoa, WI, or all the way south to Crystal Lake and on to the Chicago River. Rent a boat, dock by the house, explore the Chain O'Lakes. Fish right off either one of the piers or anywhere along the seawall with no fishing license required. Bring golf bag and drive to golf course just across the river from Snowdrop House or any of the other neighboring golf courses. Bird watchers can enjoy seeing cardinals, robins, finches, squirlles, ducks, Canadian gees, swallows, and more. The location is ideal for visiting Lake Michigan beaches, taking a boat ride across Lake Michigan to MI, taking a train ride to Chicago or driving up to Milwaukee to attend one of the many summer festivals. Or stay in McHenry for the ever so famous Fiesta Days.

The Snowdrop House is one of the 1,103,376 single family residences build in Illinois between 1900 and 1939. The sq. ft. on the main floor 1,800 plus. The Snowdrop House is also one of the 6.2% or 4,703 houses built in 1919 or earlier as informed by the U.S. Census Bureau - 2009 American Housing Survey.

Excellent

My wife and I spent three days at the Snow Drop house and truly enjoyed every moment. We have lived close to the Fox River most of our adult lives and to experience the lovely view morning and evening from the deck of this home was simply outstanding. The inside was very neat and clean from the newly renovated kitchen to the living area and the bedrooms! The home is furnished very nicely with very comfortable furniture.

The owner was very helpful and a pleasure to work with. We will certainly consider this home again in the future and have recommended this home to our friends and relatives. A true five star property!!

Owner's Response: Launching the boat at nearby marina worked out well for you Derald. Boating, watching boats on the Fox River, happy people waving, it's all part of summer fun at the river.

A Vacation Gem

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Snowdrop house was wonderful. The house is clean and simply lovely, with a spectacular view of Fox River. Located in a sweet, quiet community so close to all that McHenry has to offer. The owner was attentive to every detail. We would recommend Snowdrop house to anyone looking for river/lake boating, fishing fun or just a quiet vacation by the banks.

Lovely home with an amazing view

  • 4 of 5

My sister and I stayed recently for a weekend . The house was spotless and we'll cared for. Inside was cozy with comfortable couches and chairs. The bedrooms were spacious and beds suited each of us, as one was quite firm and the other a little softer. We very much enjoyed sitting on the dock drinking coffee in the morning. Nice neighborhood. Would come back again.

Delightful

  • 5 of 5

We spent a long weekend in the Snowdrop House and could have spent more time and hope to do so in the future.

We found the house to be as shown in the photos and even better. The house was clean and roomy and decorated with a flair of fun and style.

Whether watching the river in sun or on a rainy day the view is delightful.

We took bicycles and made use of the close Prairie Trail and the Fox River Trail. Shopping is easy and convenient.

Ingrid is quick to reply and very helpful and thorough with information regarding any questions we had regarding our stay.

Thank you Ingrid, we had a really great time.

Snowdrop House Felt Like Home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this lovely home for the entire month of August. It is in a perfect location, tucked away in a neighborhood of beautiful homes looking directly onto the Fox River. The house is almost 100 years old but has been nicely updated. The kitchen is like new and well furnished. The bed is comfortable and everything needed to set up housekeeping is there. We sat on the large deck every morning and watched the boats go by while drinking our first cup of coffee. It was delightful. The main bathroom has been updated, however, it is still small and a bit awkward to use. With that said, because there are so many benefits to the property, we still give our stay 5 stars. Ingrid was always available and eager to help with questions and concerns. Everything works well and it felt like home. Couldn't have enjoyed our time there more.
