The first floor has a gracious vestibule, with an immediate view of the ocean. The open plan fully equiped kitchen and dining room look out through gardens to the ocean. The separate study and spacious living room also have sweeping views of the ocean and the Channel Islands. The home's width allows every room a view of the ocean. The second floor has an open space to the large vestibule below, two bathrooms , four bedrooms, three with spectacular ocean views, and a laundry.

This 100 year old home with original lead glass windows was lovingly restored and renovated by an award winning architect to keep the unique charm of the original house while providing all the modern amenities, including a new 2 car garage .

About John Sharratt

Born and reared in Des Moines, Iowa - I had little access to mountains and oceans - so off to College at Cornell University for a Master of Architecture - and then to Boston to work for Walter Gropius and meet my wonderful wife. I started my own firm and stayed for 42 years.

My parents retired to Santa Barbara in 1966. My family and I visited often, knowing Santa Barbara had it all - especially the perfect weather year-round. In 2006 we purchased this acre and a half paradise. No regrets.

Located on "The Mesa" 135 ft. above the ocean, Edgewater is a quick block to the famous Mesa Steps to the beach; good shopping and restaurants are an easy walk. The climate is perfect- never too hot, never too cold. The ocean kindly moderates all the extremes, and provides the background wave sound that makes this place so peaceful. We love being in such a quiet, private paradise and yet have such easy access to world class entertainment, cultural activities, fine dining, and spectacular hiking and water activities. This is a real neighborhood with delightful, friendly, helpful neighbors.

What makes this house unique

This is not only a beautiful house with an unparalleled view, but an easy one to live in as well. Everything is comfortably within reach, and the open floor plan allows for easy flow from area to area, as well as private little nooks and a window seat to read a book from the many volumes in the expansive book cases.

Once you walk through the French doors to the patio areas and lawn, you are treated to lushly landscaped gardens featuring native plants, Lavenders and Rosemary shrubs that attract Hummingbirds, as well as larger colorful song birds and butterflies. And yet this quiet natural space is so close to any activity one might wish. And after a fun day exploring the city or the mountains, it is a welcoming place to sit back and gaze at the sun setting over the ocean. And you fall asleep to the soothing sound of the waves.

Our Mesa property is one and a half acres with 250' of ocean/beach frontage. Several Santa Barbara properties have ocean views. This unique gracious home is close enough to the ocean to hear the waves and the sound of whales blowing. Our neighborhood is so peaceful that you often see neighbors chitchatting quietly with one another in the middle of the street- cars aren't a problem- they are few and careful.

A five minute drive takes you to the harbor/marina and downtown Santa Barbara. The "Funk Zone" downtown with its Wineries is very popular. All of Santa Barbara is fun, from great restaurants to museums/music/theater/ shopping. The Botanic Garden is a Native plant haven doing world renowned research and providing extraordinary walks through different plant habitats, from desert to chaparral to Redwoods. The Zoo is a treat for the young and not so young.

It's a five minute walk from your door to the spectacular Douglas Preserve - 70 undeveloped acres of trails and bluffs overlooking the ocean and Islands- and a great way to walk to Hendry's Beach for lunch- or watch para gliders take off and land.
