About Peg Konkol

Dave and I live in Holmen, WI where Dave is the Executive Pastor at First Free Church in Onalaska. We are both from Black River Falls but have lived throughout the US and England. My dad gave me the cabin property 38 years ago. We used the cabin as our main residence for 2 6-month stretches in the past couple years until we found a house to buy. I actually loved living there. It slows you down. Something really needed in today's world.

Peg Konkol purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Peg Konkol chose Southern Wisconsin

My dad purchased the property about 50 years ago. He had a Christmas tree farm nearby and built a beautiful home that you see pictured in the cabin. We hope to keep the property in our family as we all love vacationing there because it is so private.

What makes this cabin unique

Privacy! Comfort and quiet with a tiny sense of roughing it as the nearest convenience store is still a 4-mile drive. The pond is this great big natural swimming pool that cools you off and is always fun to watch as you rest or eat on the front porch. The night skies, because there are no city lights or other residences nearby, are fantastic.

Wonderful cabin, ideal for a relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

This stay was just perfect. The clean and cozy cabin is equipped with everything you might need. The owners are the nicest people we met in Wisconsin and this means a lot because everybody was friendly during our stay there. Dave prepared wood to make campfires in the evening and Peg even put fresh flowers in the house when we came. We really felt welcome. There is quite a lot one could do in the region but we missed most of it because - living in a big city - we enjoyed so much being there and relaxing. The pond has clean water to swim and air mattresses were provided. Though there is no WLAN our teenage kids agreed that this was the best part of our stay in the States (maybe because there is no WLAN?). I would recommend this cabin to everyone who wishes to get away from it all for a while. And I really hope we will have the opportunity to come again one day.

Perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful time at Dave and Peg's cabin. With family members coming from three different states, their cabin was a relatively centralized location for us, which was the initial draw. My 2.5 year old nephew absolutely loved the sandy beach. While it wasn't quite warm enough for us to go swimming, we did really enjoy the provided air mattresses to float around the pond. The fire pit was enjoyed by the adults every night. This is truly a "get away from it all" cabin; it's unbelievably peaceful (perhaps that's the downtown-Minneapolis-living girl in me coming out). The cabin itself was just what we needed. It's well equipped with everything you'll need. Plenty of bedding, towels, and kitchenware. As a new dog mom, I also really appreciated how welcomed my pup was at their cabin. We will definitely keep this cabin in mind for our future vacations - it was perfect!

We had a great time at your cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this cabin in the rural area of Sparta. It was within 20 minutes of the Sparta Elroy bike trail, but when it was raining and we stayed inside - the cabin was very clean, had everything we needed, and was a place we wanted to stay at. Would come again if we ever bike again in this area.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your good review! Yes, it is a great place just to stay inside if its raining...cozy and fun with the sound of the rain on the steel roof and all the windows to watch the rain from. I am so happy you had a great time at our cabin! Peg

So beautiful and relaxing.

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved this this place so much . My kids (15, 12, 9) had so much fun in the pond. They swam for hours on end. My son had great time fishing and catching the little bluegills in the pond. My daughter enjoyed catching the frogs also.

It's so beautiful and peaceful at their cabin. There is no one around and it's so quiet at night. My wife and I loved the screen in porch for meal or seating out their early mornings and seeing the deer. I enjoyed being able to reconnect as a family with no internet or tv.

The cabin is so charming inside and you can tell they take a lot of pride in it. They have easy to follow directions and everything is right their for you.

We traveled into Sparta which isn't that far and stopped in a couple really neat stores. We also bought some really good sweet corn.

Thanks again for your everything.

The Boeck family.

Owner's Response: Hi Daniel, Thanks for the lovely review! It makes us so happy to think our little cabin can help families reconnect, especially people like you with the heavy responsibilities you have with your job. We especially like the fact that you could enjoy the pond. When we are there with our kids and grand kids, we too swim on end.

Comfortable, tranquil and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

If you want to truly get away from it all this is the cabin for you. It is private, peaceful and is hidden away in the Wisconsin woods. The cabin is clean, roomy and welcoming. The bed was comfortable. We ate all of our meals there and had all the tools we needed for meal preparation. Peg was gracious and great to work with--she answered our many "tourist questions" and gave us some wonderful suggestions for places to go things to do and see. Mostly the two of us just enjoyed the peace and quiet at the cabin and walks in the woods with our dog. IT WAS AN AWSOME EXPERIENCE!

Cozy, welcoming, secluded getaway

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a trip off of the grid, this is it. The cabin is clean, cozy, charming, and welcoming. We swam in the pond, which is well maintained, ate dinner on the screened-in porch, played games in the kitchen, and talked in the family room. If you are going in the summer, bring your bug spray, take the time to see the stars, take in the fresh air, and enjoy the privacy that the land and the cabin provide. We had a fantastic time!
