About Peg Konkol

Dave and I live in Holmen, WI where Dave is the Executive Pastor at First Free Church in Onalaska. We are both from Black River Falls but have lived throughout the US and England. My dad gave me the cabin property 38 years ago. We used the cabin as our main residence for 2 6-month stretches in the past couple years until we found a house to buy. I actually loved living there. It slows you down. Something really needed in today's world.

Peg Konkol purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Peg Konkol chose Southern Wisconsin

My dad purchased the property about 50 years ago. He had a Christmas tree farm nearby and built a beautiful home that you see pictured in the cabin. We hope to keep the property in our family as we all love vacationing there because it is so private.

What makes this cabin unique

Privacy! Comfort and quiet with a tiny sense of roughing it as the nearest convenience store is still a 4-mile drive. The pond is this great big natural swimming pool that cools you off and is always fun to watch as you rest or eat on the front porch. The night skies, because there are no city lights or other residences nearby, are fantastic.

Lovely Cabin

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is lovely. The open floor plan and comfortable furnishings make you feel at home the minute you step inside. Everything is clean and well organized. My friend and I both slept very well in the comfortable beds. Peg goes the extra mile to make sure you have everything you need. I'm hoping to return when the weather allows for swimming in the pond.

Perfect place for family time!

  • 5 of 5

Two Camps cabin in Sprata WI is a wonderful place to bring family and reconnect. I brought my sister and niece~ we cooked so much delicious food in the adorable well equipped kitchen, then hiked the propety, had a bonfire while my niece played on the beach by the pond. Perfect weekend. Pam was very responsive and helpful with everything. Can't wait to bring our families.

Best, Sheila

Peaceful and relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I stayed at this beautiful cabin for a three-day weekend. The pictures online don't do it justice. It's even cuter and nicer in person. The entire place was absolutely spotless and we really appreciated how clean everything was. I slept in the main bedroom on the first floor and it was one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. My friend slept in one of the beds upstairs.

The cabin itself is very secluded which is exactly what we wanted. It was really peaceful. There is a shooting range nearby so you can hear gunshots occasionally throughout the day but it's not very loud. We were here the first week of October so it was a little too cold to take a dip in the pond.

One note I would make is that although it states this is in the description for the cabin, I didn't realize that the only source of heat is from the potbelly stove. The stove was great and easy to make a fire. The owners kept the firewood well stocked. But if you're renting in colder weather, keep in mind that you will have to keep the fire going all night. It ended up being fun to keep the fire stoked and we enjoyed roughing it for the weekend!

We rented bikes for the day at a place called Speedy's bike rental in Sparta Wisconsin. They were awesome. We got fully outfitted with bikes and bike helmets and had a blast riding on the beautiful Elroy-Sparta bike trail. I highly recommend that!

Last, need to emphasize that there is no cell service or Internet service at all. Both my friend and I have AT&T for our cell service and were not able to get a signal until we got into Sparta. Even in Sparta which is about 25 minutes away we were only able to get a good signal in the Walgreens parking lot. Other than that even in Sparta we found that the service was very very spotty. Still we had fun being off the grid for the weekend without any communications. It ended up being a very relaxing and fun weekend.

The owners recommended the Evergreen Supper Club. It was exactly what you would hope for in the supper club. Would definitely go back.

I would recommend this cabin without hesitation. I plan on coming back again next year.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for such a lovely review! I am so sorry regarding the lack of cell service. We have Verizon and find it works fine, and I haven't had any other reports that cell phones didn't work. Hopefully, it's only AT&T.

Wonderful, Secluded Place

  • 5 of 5

Our recent stay at Two Camps was a truly wonderful experience. Although we were enticed by the photos and write up on the website, we agree with some previous reviewers that the actual experience was even better. We loved the spacious accommodations, particularly the living room area, which is really hard to capture in photos. It was so relaxing to sit and read with the natural light coming in through all of the windows. We enjoyed sitting on the screened porch and spent many hours watching the hummingbirds feed and listening to the quiet. The location is ideal for anyone who enjoys a remote location, but with access to shopping and other conveniences. Peg & Dave are terrific hosts! We highly recommend Two Camps and plan to return.

Exceeded our expectations!

  • 5 of 5

Dave & Peg's "little cabin in the woods" was the perfect place to spend our summer vacation. Being "Sunbirds", we escape the AL heat and humidity and spend July through September in WI where we have family and friends. This was our first time to use VRBO and we were fortunate to find this cabin, which is only 45 min from La Crosse and gave us a quiet, relaxing place to rest our heads at the end of a busy day or just kick back and enjoy the pond and solitude of the woods.

Although it is only 950 sq ft, with the open floor plan, the cabin felt spacious and not cluttered. The cabin was clean and furnished with comfortable and adequate seating, a well-supplied kitchen and plenty of movies to watch if one so desired or cd's to play on the stereo system. The open loft provided additional sleeping as well as a desk and chair that became a perfect place for writing, reading or just napping. An added plus was the washing machine and outside clothesline, saving time and money by not having to use a laundermat. Plenty of storage and hanging space for clothes and personal items, which was all we needed to bring for our 2 month stay. Extra paper products and misc supplies were also provided.

Perhaps our favorite place would be sitting on the screened in porch looking out at the pond. Depending on the time of day, you were sure to see some visitors; a young buck, a gray heron, a mallard and the daily visit by the Kingfisher. And then there were the hummingbirds, as many as 8 sometimes, who visited the feeder under the eaves next to the porch entertaining us for hours.

The pond was perfect for when the grandchildren came to visit or on hot days when you just wanted to float on the water rafts provided with the cabin. And when evening came, the beach was a perfect place to sit and "star gaze". With no city lights, it was like sitting in an observatory.

I cannot say enough good things about this cabin or the Konkels, the perfect hosts, it truly felt like our home away from home. Thank you Dave and Peg for letting us enjoy your "little piece of heaven" up in the woods if Cataract, we hope our travels will bring us back to visit you again.
