About Peg Konkol

Dave and I live in Holmen, WI where Dave is one of the pastors at First Free Church in Onalaska. We are both from Black River Falls but have lived throughout the US and England. My dad gave me the cabin property 40 years ago and the Amish built the cabin for us 13 years ago. We used the cabin as our main residence for 2 6-month stretches in the past until we found a house to buy. I actually loved living there. It slows you down. Something really needed in today's world.

Peg Konkol purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Peg Konkol chose Sparta

My dad purchased the property about 50 years ago. He had a Christmas tree farm nearby and built a beautiful home that you see pictured in the cabin. We hope to keep the property in our family as we all love vacationing there because it is so private and the swimming pond is spring fed and lovely on a hot day.

What makes this cabin unique

Privacy! Comfort and quiet with a tiny sense of roughing it as the nearest convenience store is still a 4-mile drive. The aerated pond is this great big natural swimming pool that cools you off and is always fun to watch as you rest or eat on the front porch. The night skies, because there are no city lights or other residences nearby, are fantastic.

Exactly what we wanted and needed... and MORE!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five enjoyed this little slice of Heaven so much that the kids were already asking to go back next year just half-way through this trip!

We loved being surrounded by the beauty and wonder of nature - in near total seclusion - on the large and gorgeous property. It was so peaceful and a wonderful way to unplug from 'real' life. Our three boys (aged 15, 12, and 6) did not miss their electronics at all, if that gives you any indication as to how much they loved it!

We were fortunate to meet up with a friend in LaCrosse for the better part of a day of our trip (he took us boating on the Mississippi - lucky us!), but the bulk of our time was happily spent at the cabin, where we swam/floated, played games in the screened-in patio, read, went biking, took nature walks, fished, grilled, and had campfires every night, where we made s'mores and campfire/pudgy pies, told stories and talked for hours! While we live in a somewhat rural town ourselves, the boys were in complete awe at the millions of stars they could see at night here. It was truly wonderful and a parental dream come true for me - I always wanted to share something like this with/for my kids, but this surpassed my dream.

The cabin is immaculately clean, neat, and tidy, yet as homey as could be. Peg and Dave were wonderful hosts, providing any amenity you could possibly need or want (and then some!): games, books, movies, music, bug spray, firewood, towels, throw blankets to cuddle up with in the evening, kayaks, big floats/rafts, a charcoal grill, and a fully-outfitted kitchen (e.g., coffee pot, electric range, toaster oven, glassware, mugs, plates, flatware, pots, pans, baking sheets, foil, plastic wrap, cutting boards, utensils galore, on and on the list could go!). Dave was even so kind as to deliver fishing poles and bait to us on our second day. <3

We very much look forward to a return visit! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Peg and Dave!

Some non-cabin, potentially helpful notes for future visitors:

- Foss's Fine Meats in Sparta has terrific steaks, chops, brats, brat dogs, & 'meat snacks.'

- The Sparta farmers market (Sat & Wed) is small, but the vendors are high quality & exceptionally friendly. The bakers (a mother-daughter team) were VERY generous with their delicious pizelles, the produce was delicious & fairly priced, and the 'pickle man' was very informative & kind (if you like sweet pickles, try his aged watermelon rinds!). Arrive when they open!

Owner's Response: What a great review . Thank you so much.! As always, our greatest delight is for family to unplug and enjoy one another and nature at Two Camps. I am so glad you got to enjoy the terrific night sky, and thanks for the Sparta tips, too. And thanks for leaving the cabin so clean and tidy. Peg

Amazing place!

  • 5 of 5

This is very much a property a family happily shares rather than a property a they happen to rent. All around you can feel how much Peg and Dave love it! There is something for everyone of any age to see or do to stay occupied throughout your stay. Unfortunately, it rained quite a bit during my stay, but the porch was the perfect place to read while I waited for the sun so I could go back in the water. Despite the rain this was an amazing vacation. Thank you for sharing with me!

Owner's Response: It was our pleasure to share it with someone like you who wanted to get away by himself for a personal retreat. As there was only one of you, it's good to hear you were happily occupied even in the rain. I find the cabin a very pleasant place to hold up when it's raining, too.

Absolutely stunning

  • 5 of 5

It's absolutely stunning. The cabin was very clean and cozy! The property is amazing! So quiet and peaceful! A couple of mornings we even got to enjoy watching a mama deer and baby splash around and play on the other side of the pond while we enjoyed our coffee and tea on the beautiful screened in porch. All 3 of my kids loved it there age ranging 1-13. The only complaint came from my oldest was no WiFi haha but he survived and found lots of other things to do!

Second Visit - We Love it!

  • 5 of 5

Two Camps never disappoints! This was our second visit in 2 years. There was an addition of an island in the swimming pond & two kids kayaks. Tiki torches on the beach and a huge umbrella to block sun at the picnic table. Super clean, as always. We love Two Camps and can't wait to go back next year! The businesses we visited were The Cataract Mart, Ginny's Restaurant (Sparta) and Big Rooster's Gun Shop (Sparta).

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review! I love it when my guests love it! I was excited that your two little guys would have a great time kayaking, catching frogs, being in the woods and cannon-balling off the swim raft. So good for boys to have outdoor freedom. The only thing about you as a's hard to clean over clean when you leave : ) Peg
