This is a perfect place to stay when visiting the Berkeley area. Lucy is a warm, welcoming host who was very accessible to us but also values privacy. The houseboat has everything you need for cooking and relaxing. It's perfect for one person but both of us were comfortable and didn't feel cramped. I highly recommend staying here and enjoying the home, marina and all that Berkeley has to offer.
The houseboat was great and in a really quiet location. Really quite different with good view of the hills around Berkeley. There were good walks close to the mooring. The atmosphere was quite relaxed. Lucy, the owner, made us very welcome and was most helpful. She is a most interesting woman and our only regret is that we didn't have more conversations. The bus that took us into Berkeley taught us patience and gave us a different slant on American society. We used it to see Oaklands and the hill surburbs of Berkeley. The BART is a great train service into San Francisco which we used a lot as well as the Uber system.
I think that excessively obese or bulky people might have problems with the space . It was slightly difficult to use the oven and the fire alarm went off twice when we did so but this was a really minor matter.Probably it is best ifyo u do have your own transport. The TV and DVD player are more than adequate and there is a good range of books. Cutlery, pots, and cooking implements are very good. Tt he crockery is excellent and quite idiosyncratic.
There is a fair number of birds in the area as well as ground squirrels and once we saw seals.
A really good experience best for two persons at the most.
Our host Lucy is almost more adorable than her home. She is very sweet, super accommodating and always trying to make sure that your stay, in her home, is a great stay. From the very beginning, I knew we had chosen the perfect place. When you see it for the first time, it is like something out of a woodland storybook. Trust me, people walking by would stop and take pictures of it. Once inside, it is a wonderfully cozy home, filled with light. Everything you need is right at your fingertips. Oh, and if you need the grocery store, laundry, shops, movies, restaurants, etc...the "city" is just a short drive away (Downtown Berkeley is 10 mins and San Francisco is about 20mins w/o traffic). Oh, and just in case you were wondering about the houseboat rocking, for those of us who get sea-sick, this was never an issue for me....it barely moves. I absolutely LOVE this home and would stay here again in a heartbeat. We were quite sad to leave....I can see why Lucy lives here.
I stayed in this lovely floating home for four days during a personal writing retreat. It was the ideal setting: gorgeous surroundings to walk in while taking a break, safe and quiet for time to read and write, and a helpful host that made sure I had what I needed to make the most of my stay. I might need to make this an annual trip! I would recommend it for anyone who needs a little R&R, or time alone, or cozy time with someone special. The waterfront will leave a lasting impression.
What a fun place to stay. The houseboat is very charming and was very comfortable. You'd really never even know you were on a boat. He bathroom is spacious, the kitchen has all the basics and the mattress was cozy. Plus there is free parking at the Marina. Whole foods and Trader Joes are only a few minutes away (by car) and there are lots of restaurants and shops in Berkeley. It was great to be away from the hustle and bustle of town - plus there an amazing path that goes on for miles along the waterfront. I loved my stay - and will definitely be back when I am in town again. Thanks so much!!
