Perfect summer retreat

  • 4 of 5

The home is a fine lake retreat. All the amenities of home - wifi, cable, hdtv - to make the kids happy and to get some work done. Nothing better than doing work while looking at the view and feeling the breeze.

The upstairs master is an oasis with its own private deck away from the kids. Perfect for the morning coffee.

My only complaint was the lake was historically low, leaving bare sharp rocks and the smell of rotting seaweed if the wind blew the wrong direction. Nothing the owner could do about that. But a 30 minute drive either direction gets to the Sand Bar state park or the dunes with great sandy beaches and warm water.

Overall a very pleasant stay and the kids love watching the bunnies in the yard.

Worth a return visit!

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful time during our stay. The house is well laid out for our needs, and there is plenty of space to spread out on the porch and lawn. Like most lake houses, this house does have some rough edges, but we found these to be minor. We had a couple of cases when repairs were required, and the owner addressed these quickly.

We were very happy with the area roads. They are mostly paved, and this makes them ideal for both biking and rollerblading.

The biggest down side for us is that the lake access is very shallow, especially this year when the lake water level was low. The town park just to the south has better access, so we just used that beach when we wanted to swim.

We are already looking forward to our visit in 2017!

Very disappointed. This is a nice property that has not been taken care of.

  • 2 of 5

There were many problems with this property, here a few. It was dirty. The pendant lighting fixtures in the kitchen were completely choked in cobwebs and dead spiders. The windows were all choked with spider webs and dead spiders. The "Fully stocked gourmet kitchen" was very dirty. Broken glass and a lot of dirt under microwave. The coffee maker was rusted out. The oven was so choked in old burned food, we couldn't

use it. Old food and worms in the fridge. The shower drain in the master bath was so clogged, the bathroom almost flooded. The TV in the master bedroom had been removed. The outside of the home is neglected. The grass was about 8" tall when we left. Weeds completely surrounded the house and choked any flower beds that were there. The list goes on and on.

We did call the owner the first morning and he did send someone over to clean and she did her best, but this place needs a lot more attention

than that. He also said that the lawn would get mowed and it never did. He said there would be a bottle of wine waiting for us, there wasn't. He also said in an email sent to us just prior to arrival that he would be there there cleaning and when we called to complain about the dirtiness of the house he said "I'll never use that cleaning crew again". Was it a crew or him?? Should we mention the skid marks in the downstairs toilet?

Thanks for ruining our vacation.

Owner's Response: I am sorry that his couple did not enjoy their stay. Upon their phone call I had immediately sent another cleaner to the house. If there was anything that was not immaculate this cleaner would have taken care of it. The wine was in the wine rack. The only food that is left in the fridge are condiments like catsup, bbq sauce etc. Many past tenants have been appreciative of the food and the bait. As the house is on the lake, many vacations like to fish and appreciate the "bait". The bait is in sealed containers. I have a contractor for lawn care and it is mowed ever Saturday. The flower beds that were unweeded were ones that had been planted with a wildflower mixture and needed to be left undisturbed for the first season. This property has been rented out since 2011 and this is the first complaint. I am local my phone and email are listed and I am available to address any concerns that may arise.

Where to begin? We are a gorgeous west-facing beachfront property right in rural farmland on the Champlain Valley Bikeway, yet only one hour from the international city life of Montreal, QC, 45 minutes from hip, artsy Burlington, a little farther to Shelburne Farms and Museum, ten minutes from St. Albans, and 45 minutes from all that Jay Peak has to offer, such as the water park!

Taxes and fees are additional

Additional information about rental rates

Refundable damage deposit $250
Property Damage Protection $99
Cleaning $75 + Tax
Tax Rate 10.0%

If you prefer to send a refundable damage deposit equal to the rental cost instead of purchasing the low-cost Property Damage Protection (with the written agreement that you will be responsible for the entire amount of any and all damage should it exceed the rental cost amount), that would be fine. AND FYI: In many years of renting this lovely property, we have never once had to keep any portion of anyone's damage deposit. We hope that fortunate trend will continue. Thanks so much! Also, there will be no refunds due to inclement weather. Sorry!
