The Knight building is a historical building of over 125 years old. Offering a full 2000 sq. feet of space, this beautiful apartment still has the original black Monson slate sink, that looks as good as new!, Each inviting room is quite large, with original flooring. Built a stones throw from Lake Hebron, much of the lake can be seen right out the windows, or step out on the deck to enjoy your morning coffee, or a night-cap as you watch and hear the beautiful loons. Fish right off the dock if you feel like it, and have some delicious trout for supper.

About the Owner

Oh well, the building owners are too shy to allow the posting of their pictures...maybe some day. But they've owned this property since the 1980's (at least). They are Mainers, and have a camp in Monson. The owner grew up in Monson, which gives Monson a special place in his heart. He'd love to see vacationers enjoying our area as much as he (and his wife) did growing up here. They spent over a year renovation the building on the inside, bringing the apartment back to it's former glory. Renovation of the outside will be their next project. But for now, they couldn't wait to begin offering it up for rent! This rental is fairly new to the market, and we have tried different things to see what work best. Their property managers, Colleen and Neal Pinkerton have a wonderful breakfast nook called Pete's Place, (named after the owner of the Knights Building!) You will be sure to enjoy a delicious breakfast there as well. They already have had all positive reviews on Facebook, Yelp, and even the newspaper! We are proud to have "Pete's Place" right in Monson village!

This property has unique benefits. First of all - it's a building, and not a camp. The stairs in those days had different regulations - -we have 10" risers! Very unusual. The reason the building was named "The Knight Building" was because was to pay homage to the original owners - the family of Knights who once had a clothing and hardware store below. You can read all about them in the Monson History book sold at our local museum. Beautiful old wood throughout, we feel (as musicians ourselves), makes for great acoustics for musicians to jam. We left a piano in the living-room for you to play on, but bring along your strings, and join the many groups formed in our community - the next Nashville! Pete's Place plays host to acoustic musicians on Friday nights, and the Monson Community Center (MMC) also has an open door to musicians and onlookers as well. People all over the world have heard of Monson's music jams, thanks to the trail hikers, who often join in the summer fun. Spring Creek BBQ, and the Lakeview Pub often times host music as well. (Two more excellent village restaurants).

Monson is the last bit of civilization for the AT hikers before that final 100 miles of wilderness. Needless to say, we are host to many Appalachian Trail hikers as they come through. There is a Bison farm just five miles to Blanchard, another section of Monson. They offer their own attractions as well, and sell products from their farm - honey, meat and such...I promise to find out more about it! All of Piscatiquis county is still plenty wild and there is much to discover or uncover. Monson is central to many attractions such as the Katadin Ironworks, the B-52 Crash site, the Forks, and waterfalls. So many awesome things to see and do, we can't list them all.

Please note we rent Saturday to Saturday. Occasionally we may let the apartment out on odd days, and occasionally a weekend opens up. There is a minimum 2 night policy, and the fees for two nights are $175.00 per night, with rare exceptions. Also, at times our guests may have to rent within the 30 day booking. In this case we would need to make exceptions to the 30 day "pre-pay half" requirement, particularly if you are renting less than a week. We try to be reasonable and flexible - just ask!

Half of the rental is required upon the signing and return of the contract agreement. The other half will be required at least 30 days prior to the date of your vacation. If there is any questions or changes, they can be made/discussed at the time of the reservation.

If you like one foot in the woods, and one foot where the fun and action is, you will love this rental. It is close to everything in the little village, but central to all things woodsy that Maine calls for. You will just as likely see deer or Moose as you take a ride up to Greenville to shop, as you would anywhere else. Take a walk to the lake down Pleasant Street, and soon you will see a sign for the Appalachian trail! Actually Pleasant street is a part of the AT because the Hikers use it to go to the PO and other places for their needs.

Notes:

  • Also, we try to adjust our rental to your needs. We can rent it out like an Inn, where some of your meals can be included as a part of the package, or as a motel - meaning renting out a room, but not having access to the kitchen...sharing the apartment with other room renters. But this would only happen if there was a group in agreement. We wouldn't rent it out to additional strangers while you were there, unless you were renting by the room. Please be clear when you contact us. We prefer weekly rentals, Saturday to Saturday. It is very important to include your telephone number when you email. It not only saves time, but we need to know you are 'established' as well. PS: Friday nights in Monson is a big night for music lovers. Ask about it when you call. Thanks!
