Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)
About Cindy Hagerthy
I am a retired travel agent & have traveled the world. In spite of the many beautiful places I have seen, to me my cottage is equal to them all. I love Siamese cats, spinning wool, knitting & baking.
Cindy Hagerthy purchased this Cottage in 1957
Why Cindy Hagerthy chose Ellsworth
I inherited this cottage from my parents who built it themselves with help from neighbors & friends in the 1950's. I spent nearly every summer here as a girl, swimming & boating with my family & friends. It feels remote but is close to shopping & entertainment although I find that I hate to depart once I'm there & only leave for groceries. The cottage is approx 25 miles from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, 20 miles to artsy Blue Hill, and within an hour of panoramic Deer Isle.
What makes this Cottage unique
The cottage is on a hill overlooking the lake & is a small climb down to a gravel bottomed swimming area. There are few camps on this lake, so you will be unlikely to see very much of your neighbors. There is no public boat launch on the lake, so only bring canoes or kayaks that are light enough to carry down the hill yourself & back up again.

Quiet and secluded!
It was very relaxing and beautiful. It was a little more secluded than I had expected - about a quarter a mile or so down a little dirt road. I was a bit uncomfortable with the bathroom arrangement because you had to go through the screened in porch to get there. However, the bathroom was very nice and comfortable.
The kitchen had everything you could ask for and the place had a “homey “ feel to it, very well loved and cared for. It was neat and clean.
It’s views of the pond and the trees and rocks surrounding the camp had a treehouse feel to it.
A little slice of heaven
We had a great week at this cabin. It had everything we needed and the kitchen is very well stocked. We spent hours just sitting on the deck observing the moods of the pond, watching (and listening to) the resident pair of loons. It is a quick trip to Acadia and we also has a great hike up Schoodic Mountain.
Fantastic Maine Get Away
My husband and I just returned from a wonderful week at this quiet lakefront cottage. The location and setting were absolutely perfect. So quiet and secluded. Although there are other houses on the lake, we never saw or heard anyone. It is very close to Acadia and we spent days exploring and hiking in the park. The best feature of the property is the screened porch. Beautiful views and complete protection from mosquitoes. I had coffee there each morning while reading and most evenings there listening to the sounds of loons. The kitchen is extremely well-stocked with high quality pots/pans etc. We cooked almost every night and also the used the grill on the deck. We used the bedroom facing the lake and it was perfect. The bed is so comfortable and the linens/pillows were wonderful. Shower was awesome as well, with lots of hot water and big fluffy towels. The reservation process from start to finish was a breeze. Cindy is wonderful! Very responsive to questions I had prior to arrival and she provided great information about the area. She met us upon arrival to explain some features of the cottage which was a great help. All in all, this was a perfect cottage for us, and we would love to return!!
Great cottage for two or more!
Having read prior reviews, and now having had the wonderful experience of a week's stay at Cindy's Ellsworth cottage, we'd just "second" all the positive observations of those who have rented before us!! Beautiful view, most comfortable cottage (perfect for the two of us -- and our dog!), totally equipped for a rental, great location with Ellsworth, fine or simple nearby restaurants, near Acadia National Park (less than an hour) and Bar Harbor, close to the most beautiful coastal areas and views in Maine!!! Look at the photos -- and believe them! Already signed up for next year.
Perfect getaway destination
My girlfriend and I spent Labor Day weekend at the cabin. Cindy had thought thought through all of the details in keeping an excellent cabin/house. She was also very communicative which helped us better plan our trip. I would highly recommend Cindy’s place to anyone visiting Acadia/Bar Harbor; we are lucky to have found this listing.
What an amazing place
We spent a week at the cottage and with each day fell more in love. The location is incredible, very private (once a day we saw a kayaker or boater from a distance, but that was it) yet within 20 minutes drive of anything you might need, including thai food and a great pet supply store in Ellsworth. The cottage is uncluttered, yet there's one of everything, clearly labeled and located. The lake was crystal clear and remarkably warm for Maine. Access to the lake looked more difficult in pictures than it actually was, the stone steps are well placed and the dock sturdy. While there's not a sandy beach, once past a few rocks on shore the lake bottom was soft and depth of water somewhat gradual. It was plenty deep enough for the dogs to dive off the end of the dock. The sunsets are stunning, the view of the lake truly amazing and oh my, the stars are the best I've ever experienced ..there's no light pollution, it is can't-see-your-hand-in-front-of-your-face dark at night.
Cindy is a terrific host, very communicative and easygoing. We appreciate the opportunity to bring our dogs who might have had an even better time than we did!
There is something so special about this place that is impossible to put into words--we were sad to leave and look forward to returning.
