The log house is 2800 S.F. of rustic/log architecture and is beautifully decorated.
It overlooks a private mountain pond, working vineyard, and just up the hill from a large flowing creek. The cabin has 3 levels: a family room/dining area/kitchen all open with a vaulted ceiling, river stone hearth, master bedroom suite with spacious bathroom w/double sink, Jacuzzi tub, 2 person rain water shower. Upscale kitchen with Silestone, double dishwasher, convection oven and over-sized stainless refrigerator. Upstairs bedroom with 2 queen beds and private bath. Terrace level includes den with large screen TV, billiards room, 3rd bedroom with twin beds, utility room, and large bathroom. Also provided is a Jenn-Aire gas grill for outdoor cooking. 2 decks for enjoying the lovely views of the vineyard and national forest. Short distance to Hiwassie Lake. 6 ft. farm table seats 8 made from century old barn wood. Elk Head, washer/dryer area, Internet WiFi, Wine Cellar.
My family build and use the cabin often when not reserved. My Wife and children have grown to love the cabin and the beauty of the western North Carolina mountains.
I enjoy sharing my knowledge about the area, history, and things to do. We hope you will right at home.
Tom Loughran purchased this cabin in 2008
Three things, A high end Cabin experience, large creek, Pond, The small Vineyard is beautiful year round.
1500' of creek front property that we have converted into a trophy trout fishery.
We were looking for a brief last-minute getaway, and Tom was very accommodating. We arrived later than planned, well past dark, and with Tom's directions and our GPS were able to find our way after only one wrong turn into a neighbor's driveway (who shortly thereafter popped up the hill on his 4-wheeler to be sure we found the place). Be aware, the last little bit is a dirt/pinestraw covered one-lane road, and thankfully we had not driven my fairly low-to-the-ground convertible, which would definitely have scrubbed/gotten stuck at one sharp/steep turn up the hill. If you arrive in the daytime, you'll see a lovely little vineyard as you wind your way back to this house.
The house was perfect, great layout, plenty of space, very nicely appointed kitchen - everything was tidy, uncluttered, and inviting. The master suite on the main level has a lovely huge bathroom, corner tub, and oversized tile shower. Linens were sufficient, the bedding was wonderful. The rear deck has chairs and a nice gas grill for grilling out and relaxing. The back of the house overlooks what appeared to be a very low pond (as the lake was also extremely low, not sure if it was due to drought or seasonal draining for maintenance?) and the small entrance road that curves around to other homesites.
With the exception of noticing only a couple of cars passing this house to reach their own homesites, the location is quiet and fairly private. Our first night was quite chilly, and as it was late we just piled on the blankets and decided to figure it out in the morning without bothering the owner. After finding there was no hot water the next morning, we investigated in the basement and found the water heater and HVAC turned off, so if you have a problem, check that first! Also discovered a window open in the upstairs bedroom, which we closed. Once we had hot water and heat, all was well! The seller was fairly quick to respond to texts asking for clarification so that issues could be addressed.
Neither of us (on different carriers) had any cell reception. There is wifi, it was sometimes slow depending on number of users, but I was able to stay in touch with my business via Google hangouts, iMessage, and email. We never attempted to stream Netflix or similar services, so can't comment on whether that would work well. Also, know that you are about 30 minutes from Murphy, so no "running out for a gallon of milk" - plan accordingly! And if you want a great burger, go to Chevelle's!
The owner was very friendly and helpful, The cabin was very nice. Great place to get away
If you're looking for somewhere to "get away from it all" without being in the middle of nowhere, this hidden gem is located just 20 - 30 minutes from a town (Murphy, NC) that includes a couple of really great restaurants, an ice cream shop and even a Wal-Mart if you need it. It's also within driving distance to great activities such as hiking along the Cherohala Skyway or ziplining or white water rafting at the Natahala Outdoor Center, which is the nicest facility we've ever seen.
We came in from the Tennessee side, and found that the easiest way was to go south from Coker Creek exactly 10 miles and turn left (east) on an unmarked road (Rd 1332 to 1333) right before going on a bridge over a creek; it was faster than Joe Brown Hwy at Coker Creek.
The house itself is located in a tiny little community near a small vineyard, and "next door" neighbors are far enough away that they can't be seen through all the beautiful trees. This particular home has a view overlooking a small pond (although drained during our visit, it was to be filled the following week).
The house is tastefully decorated and includes basics for cooking meals (bring your own condiments and spices), as well as starter supply of paper products (we made sure to replace), dish soap and hand soap. The loft bedroom includes 2 queen beds and a full bathroom - perfect for our 2 boys (15 and 21). The master bedroom has a queen bed and very large bathroom complete with 2-person shower (it's huge) and jetted tub (which we didn't try out, but it looked lovely). Large great room next to the open kitchen made it a nice gathering area without a TV distraction. The walk-out basement holds another gathering room with TV and ample DVD collection, a separate billiards room (which we all enjoyed), a third bedroom with two twin beds (if I remember correctly?), another full bathroom and a laundry room (bring your own supplies if you plan to do laundry; however there are supplies to get a load of sheets going upon your departure).
The owner was very responsive; and we especially appreciated his enthusiasm for the area and all of the activity and sight-seeing suggestions he made - he is a wealth of information about the area, and it's evident that he loves it and wants his guests to love it as well.
Our biggest suggestion would be to add a hot tub and increase the spice collection, but overall it was a great experience and we truly enjoyed our stay! Thank you for opening your home to us!
Perfect gathering for old friends and family to meet up and catch up. The cabin was gorgeous with everything we needed. We would stay there again.
The cabin was a little hard to find but that turned out to be an amazing advantage. The cabin was farther out so the stars, lightning bugs and quiet was amazing. The cabin was deep in Unaka which is an amazing beautiful area. It's is far enough from town that it feels like another world but close enough that you can drive in and get anything you might need. We saw woodpeckers and deer. The porch was a great sitting place.
The kitchen was very nice and had everything needed in order to make a meal. The grill was also very nice and worked great for cooking out.
The vineyard and pond and creek were all nice and the lake and marina with boat rentals are right up the road. The interior design of the cabin was nicely done. It was tasteful and clean and really nice.
It rained while we were there but honestly it was so relaxing to be in the woods and the interior of the cabin was so relaxing we weren't even bored.
I have no bad things to say! It was great location and cabin. I would highly recommend this location.
