About Jeff DuPilka

The cottage and surrounding property have been in the DuPilka family since 1957 when my parents, Joseph and Doris purchased it. Over the year they were able to acquire some additional lots for the property is protected from development.

I have been coming to Bear Lake since I was 5 years olds. If I had my way, I would be here all the time but, hey, a guy has to work, right. I do try to come up as many weekends during the summer season that I can and I also am up quite a lot in the winter. The area is beautiful with a fresh, clean snowfall.

Why Jeff DuPilka chose Northern Michigan

I was five years old when my folks purchased the property in 1957. The original purchase consisted of 300 feet on the lake which included two cottages and a garage. The cottage you are in now and one other which we called the Bunkhouse. The bunkhouse was remodeled into the house next door in the early 1970’s.

This cottage was originally as big as the kitchen area and was actually moved here on two very large cedar logs approximately 36 feet long. The logs are still in place under the structure today.

What makes this cottage unique

Lake frontage, proximity to cities, both big and small in in Michigan, Grand Rapids, Traverse City, Detroit, Manistee, Holland, Big Rapids, Flint. I have had quite a few renters from Indiana over the last couple of years as well as a couple of people from Florida. Bear Lake is a draw for people from all over that want to be able to unwind, relax and enjoy themselves.

Bear Lake is an all sports lake and activities on the water include, fishing, boating, skiing, swimming, jet skiing, kayaking, canoeing and just about any water activity you can think of. Lots to do in and around the water. The cottage has boat dock access. As me about pontoon and kayak rental if you have an interest in either of those activities.

Fire pit and fire wood available on the property for your enjoyment.

Cottage was fantastic !

  • 5 of 5

My family and I loved our vacation. The cottage more than fulfilled our needs. The cottage was stocked with just about everything we needed, and had great character.

The lake was beautiful, and the fishing was excellent.

We caught pan fish, large and smallmouth bass, yellow perch, pike and walleye !

The owner of the property was first class all the way.

My family is already planning a week at the property next summer. We cant wait to get back !

Thank you,

The Eigemanns.

Owner's Response: Guys, Thanks a lot for taking the time post your comments on the cottage. As I tell everyone, I was so lucky that my parents gave me the opportunity to stay at Bear Lake. I'm delighted to share the experience, that's why I try to keep the cost of rentals reasonable. I appreciate your business and hope to see you again next year. Thanks, Jeff

Great vacation!!

  • 5 of 5

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!! Beautiful views in or out of cottage. The sunrise and moonlight just unbelievable! Everything provided, except linens, blankets and towels. Left cottage twice, once to explore Bear Lake area, and once for groceries. Otherwise, did not want to leave!! Spent at least 90% of my time outside, grilling, fishing, swimming and on paddle boat. Highly recommend staying here. Clean and peaceful. Cannot wait to come back again!! Thank you Jeff for a great getaway!!

Cottage Get-Away on Bear Lake

  • 5 of 5

Secluded (just what we were looking for) and right on the water. Cozy, quiet, and comfortable. The store was very close and provided everything we needed. We didn't go out much since the weather was not that great but managed a couple of hours on the lake in the paddle boat on Friday. We cooked and grilled on our little grill so we chose not to go out to any restaurants. Great view of the water and a nice dock. We would definitely return to this place.

We had an amazing time up at Bear Lake! Jeff the owner was the sweetest man, he made sure we had everything we needed and was nice enough to tell us the history of the town and his cottage! Bear Lake is just extremely gorgeous the people are very friendly and the scenery is just breathtaking; we can't wait to. Go back next year!!!
