About the Owner
Why Darnell Foskett chose Hood Canal
This property has been a popular scuba diving destination for over 20 years. It is within hours of Seattle and Portland Oregon. The hood canal is known world wide for its large pacific octopus, Wolf Eels, Crab, squid etc... The canal is unique that most diving is done by shore and the weather has never cancelled a dive. BEYOND the diving it is a great location at the foot of the Olympic mountains. The house is located north of Shelton but less than an hour from Olympia, Washington. You can choose to go hiking, kayaking, crabbing, fishing, golfing or relaxing at a local casino, all within an hours drive. It is the perfect place to get away, without having to drive for hours. You are able to change your mind or plans with little effort. Most everyone in your group can be accommodated. This house has grown from a divers paradise to a group getaway paradise.
What makes this house unique
The house was a farm house built sometime in the 1920's (?) so the locals say. Nobody knows for sure. The house still boasts its unique character - cedar walls, long front porch and a barn on site. The house is solid wood on the upper floors. When you first walk in you see the exposed cedar ceiling and wood floors. We have updated the property to modern conveniences, without losing the charm of the 1920's farm house. The windows are updated vinyl, but were built to replace the original wood windows with leaded glass. You get the charm of an old farm house by the water with modern day conveniences.

The Yellow House
It was a perfect house for our annual family reunion. Built in 1910, it has obviously been updated many times to provide a comfortable setting for groups. There were 10 of us and having 4 bathrooms was ideal! The kitchen did not have a dishwasher but had every pot, pan and dish we needed. All ten of us fit around the dining room table and that was very important for us. The house had all the comforts of home+ a fabulous hot tub that seats 10...well at least the 8 who wanted to participate. One of our best getaways ever. The contact person, Darnell, was very helpful and pleasant to work with.
Great place after entrance difficulty
My family did really enjoy this spot, as a comfortable, spacious place for a reunion of family from Alaska, Missouri, and Turkey gathered for a wedding in Union. Cooked hotdogs out over the fire, enjoyed the porches and plenty of space for folks to visit in smaller groups. The only glitch: We hadn't been informed on an entry code: was told via owner email that it "would be unlocked." Nephew arrived exhausted from Missouri, and couldn't get in! The Dive Shop was closed. After leaving messages/texts at 3 different places (we didn't have direct phone # for the owner), someone did finally call him with the code. VRBO/Homeaway made it very difficult to have direct contact with the owner--and the website was no help at all. I wouldn't do another VRBO without having owner/caretaker's direct phone number IN ADVANCE. The "good old days" of VRBO seem much less workable now that it's Expedia/HomeAway.
This was a great property, they have the house setup for a wonderful stay, they have everything you need and more.
Great location, right across from the water, has a great little private beach, we had kids with us and they had a great time.
For us the adults it was relaxing, fun, we loved the bbq area in the back as well as the jacuzzi!
We all wanted to move in !
Thank you for everything !
Fabulous Place To Stay!
Every summer we hold a large Friendunion and always stay in a vacation rental. This place had everything we needed for our large group - a lot of parking, everyone had a bed (this is surprisingly difficult to find), multiple bathrooms, lots of towels... I could go on but those amenities are all listed. The house was big, had all kinds of stuff to make you feel at home, had a nicely stocked pantry from previous visitors, the hottub was very nice as well. Everything was maintained and clean and I got no complaints from my guests about the beds or really anything other than the traffic going by into town.
What really made this experience fabulous was the view of the Sound. The large front porch was great and our group played musical chairs with the super comfy outdoor rocking chairs. We saw seals bobbing around in the water. Some saw orca spouts. On the last couple of days we saw a river otter with a couple of pups playing on the dock. We picked enough blackberries (luckily before a deer visited them) from just the bushes around the parking area to make a blackberry crumble large enough to satisfy our large group.
The location is pretty much perfect for a quick maybe 5-minute walk into town for ice cream or to check out those cute little shops. The location was perfect for quick, and not so quick, day trips and berry hunting.
One more note I would like to mention. We left our large camera's tripod at the house and the owner took the time to mail it back to us with super fast shipping. Communication with the owner was always fast and quite pleasant. The entire experience was great!
Amazing house with all of the amenities to go along!
We stayed here for my birthday weekend and I must say, this place was amazing!!! It offered everything from plenty of sleeping space, a relaxing hot tub and an amazing view. Being able to drink coffee in the morning on the deck and looking over the water was superb. Having the separate grills for meats and oysters was a nice option. I have stayed in a lot of rentals before, but my group and I agreed that this was the best so far. I can't wait to get back out here and stay again. Even though it rained throughout the weekend, we couldn't have been happier. This is what I like to call perfection.
Staying at "The Yellow House" is always a treat! There is room for everyone to have space and still hang out when you want to. The upper deck overlooks the water, and the hot tube is enjoyable after a long dive. Great for those who dive and those who just want to relax and enjoy.
