About the property

4 Bedroom, 3 Baths, Sleeps 9

Very Spacious house with great frontage on small mountain lake in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Great elevation at 3000' and only 2 miles off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Less than an hours drive from Asheville, and 2.5 hours out of Charlotte. 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, with central A/C and Heat.

Walk to Golf course or south toe river for terrific trout fishing. Short walk to hiking trails that lead to nearby Black mountain campground, and Setrock Falls, or continue all the way to mount Mitchell on the "Mountain to the sea" trail, highest peak in the Eastern US. Cold water to dip in as the creek forms one border of property and several acres of woods are adjacent to both sides for kids to play.

If you are here to fish just walk 200 yards to South toe River at the Red bridge you crossed coming in, from there upstream you may fish for trout till your heart content. The pond is for looking at ,to enjoy the views but not for fishing or swimming.

The Clubhouse at Golf course has two restaurants and pub, open every evening during season, reservations sometimes needed

Great Stay!

  • 4 of 5

House - old/aged, but we loved it! Many things (appliances, furnishings, decor, etc) are aged but we didn't care. In fact, we enjoyed it. Honestly, the house is warm and inviting. It's not perfect, but that is what added much character.

One particular thing that could be improved are the mattresses. They appear/feel quite old but they certainly didn't stop us from getting sleep.

The location is fairly remote, which is what we wanted. It wasn't as secluded as we wanted, but that's fine - it was still quiet. There are neighbors...

Access to the house is excellent - VERY nice drive to get there...

The pond was nice and relaxing, especially looking out from the back room.

Hope this helps...

Family weekend in the mountains

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was wonderful. There was more than enough room. The kitchen was well supplied, as were the bedrooms. The view from the sunroom was beautiful.

Spacious and off the beaten path---

  • 4 of 5

Overall, our experience was a great one. The only thing I would improve would be the information provided about the rental, to include trash disposal (binder info was unclear and garage posting wasn't indicated there) and, regarding directions---yikes! A heads up about the type of road (steep and crazy-windy) you must drive to get there would be valued, I'm sure.

Thanks for a wonderful time away!

The house was very wheelchair friendly. We had no trouble getting in or out or around. The recliner(s) were a welcome chair for my dad with cancer. We had everything we needed. The only problems were it took a long, long time for the house to warm up and the dumping station for the garbage was much further than the map led you to believe. Definitely a good time making memories with my dad and boys.
