Heaven on Earth

  • 5 of 5

The word paradise only touches on describing this magical place. This breezy house of mahogany, awash with the scent of tropical flowers, this is the stuff dreams are made of. The abundant sunshine, the private beach just steps away, the chatter of wild parakeets that wake you in the morning, the breathtaking sunsets to wish you a goodnight, the magnificent tropical storms, the overwhelming sense of peace. All this and so much more make this place a true heaven on earth.

I stayed for two weeks with my 6 year old son. It was an enchanted journey that we’ll never forget. Alex and Mary were the most gracious of hosts who went over and above to make our stay unforgettable. I can’t recommend this beautiful beach house (or these people) more. This was not a vacation for us but rather a new family tradition!

A True Paradise

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed my stay in this beautiful place.. From the moment we arrived I was in awe with how perfectly the design of the house flowed with the jungle.. Hearing the sounds of the jungle, the ocean and feeling it's breeze and smelling the fresh flowers that surround it. The space was open and extremely zen. I made sure to take advantage to all of the little spots they created to relax, from the lush hammocks to cute little benches on the beach to enjoy morning coffees or stellar sunsets. Alex and Mary put so much love in the details; from the fresh flowers laid out on the towels to all the staples you'd need to be comfortable and feel at home (awesome blender for morning/afternoon fruit shakes).. An extra bonus was Sarah, the housekeeper.. Always greeting us with a smile. It was so helpful not having to worry about sweeping/laundry so we could relax and enjoy our vacation. One of the most unforgettable experiences I've had.. Would go back in a heart beat!

Perfect Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

I spent 10 glorious days here with my two children and their spouses. The ocean facing deck was our main living space. (Pictures do not include the relaxing hammock that also hangs there. ) Mornings were spent sipping coffee on benches at the end of the yard overlooking the beach, while evenings were spent in the same place with sunset cocktails.

Days were for excursions (loved Tortuga Island), swimming on the private beach and quad trips to Santa Teresa. The vacation can be as busy or peaceful as you decide. Be ready for monkeys, iguanas, wild horses and incredibly beautiful birds. The house was secluded and private, yet close to everything one could need. The restaurants were amazing, the food was fresh and delicious (especially Mary's).

Alex and his wife Mary were very helpful whenever we needed something and even set up early morning massages on the deck with Ruth. (best massage I ever had!) The locals could not have been any more welcoming and warm!

We can't wait to return! Pura Vida!

Authentic Costa Rica Experience!!!!

  • 5 of 5

If you want an authentic experience this is the place to stay. It is truly fabulous! What you see is what you get. A beautifully designed and built home that allows you to feel like you are immersed in the wonderful elements of nature that Costa Rica has to offer. You can literally feel like you are outside all the time with the huge beautiful doors that open to the beach. It is very private and you have a beach to yourself (besides the beautiful horse that may gallop through or occasional couple of surfers that are great to watch...or join!) Alex the owner was beyond helpful with anything we needed. The town is a short quad ride down the road. We went in daily to get some food or explore. Mary's restaurant is a one minute walk across the road and is really handy when you don't want to go into town. The food is just fabulous! We probably ate there 3-4 times. We are people that have been to Hawaii many times and took a chance on Costa Rica...it is the laid back, real, authentic, "island feel" that Hawaii probably used to have. All we expected and more! Can't get much better than this!

The most peaceful place

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at this lodge for a very short period, but I did not want to leave. It is the most peaceful place to stay at. Granted that I was there during the low season, but I also know that Mal Pais doesn't get flooded with tourists as other towns in the area, so it's pretty quiet with rock-free beaches. The lodge itself is very clean and the open concept is just a unique and beautiful feature of it, making it aesthetically very pleasing and enjoyable. It has all the necessary furniture, appliances (even a blender)...the owners are very friendly and warm people!

Doesn't get any better...

  • 5 of 5

First rate all the way around. I highly recommend this dream home to anyone looking for the best possible Costa Rica vacation experience. The home is incredibly beautiful and crafted with such taste and care in the highest quality manner. Open air tropical breeze gently moves through the home and the superb hand crafted comfortble furniture throughout the home makes for a very relaxing and beautiful environment. In my opinion it doesn't get any better than this. Everything you need and nothing you don't. Alex the owner couldn't be more warm, welcoming and helpful. All our needs were met and then some. Not to mention this gorgeous home sits on one of the most pristine pieces of land just steps from the sand of your own private cove. This place is the real deal tropical paradise dream home. We particularly enjoyed relaxing on the incredible gereously sized patio that looks out onto and maximizes the breath taking views of the river, natural reserve, countless exotic trees, and the gorgeous beach and Pacific Ocean right in front of you. From the comfort of our beds, the living room, kitchen and patio we saw the best of what Costa Rica offers... Wildlife (horses, monkeys, birds, iguanas, etc) world class sunsets and we woke up and went to sleep to the sound of the waves gently crashing on the shore. The house is also conveniently located just a short walk to Mary's organic farm to table restaurant (our favorite in the area). I hope you your friends and your family get to enjoy this experience as much as we did. Pura Vida.
