H2O Island Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our H2O Island Getaway was awesome! Enjoyed the fact that we were on an island, we had a dock for boats and a place to shuck our scallops. Also, the cabin was fully stocked with lots of basic supplies that you don’t need to bring with you, like we did. No need to bring spices, toilet paper and other essentials like that. We really appreciated the extra gallon jugs of water as the water is a little sulfery. All in all, a great stay; peaceful and quiet and close to the channel.

Rustic island cabin getaway-A realistic review

  • 4 of 5

If your idea of the perfect vacation is more about getting close to nature with fishing, kayaking and chilling out rather than the deluxe niceties that go with cruises like spas, pristine rooms and available services, this will work for you.

The house is like staying in your uncles old fishing cabin. It's comfortable and well lived in. If you need something, you can probably find what you're looking for just like at home in one of the drawers or cabinets. We have stayed in many house rentals where just the basic needs are met and all of the other "stuff" you might need you bring yourself. In this case it almost feels like people bring stuff like we did and use what they find, and then leave what they think someone else might need. There are cans of food and spices in the cabinets and odd stuff in junk drawers that look years old which is good I suppose in case you need it and I am assuming they were left behind by people who stayed here before us. This might freak some people out but I liked the concept since you're so far away from any stores. We couldn't find matches anywhere or lighter for the BBQ so the matches I had in my bag, I left behind. Better to have too much than not enough. The last room we stayed in when we were in Homosassa didn't even have salt and pepper in the kitchen!

A couple odd things, you will find tons of strange containers and things in the many drawers and cabinets but some basic items were lacking. There are a TON of fry pans but no large pot to make something like pasta in. There is a very small saucepan and then a huge crab pot so making pasta for four was a challenge. This place is known for the blue crabs so we brought our traps and they even provide a trap but we couldn't find a single nut cracker so make sure you bring one if you plan to eat crabs.

As another guest mentioned, the tap water IS salty so at least be ready for this. There is a tub out front inviting you to take a "Salt Soak" with a bag of epson salt that we thought would make a funny photo op but we couldn't get the hose to work. Also, as you can imagine. there are bugs so spray well. You won't even know you were eaten alive until the next day so go out prepared.

Overall this is high on our favorite places to stay and we will return. You just need to be prepared and be sure you are with friends and family who can also appreciate the wonderful value this place has to offer above and beyond any cruise or luxury resort. :)

Easy access but very private!

  • 5 of 5

There were 4 friends and the boat captain for scalloping. It was fantastic, especially the kitchen bar setup. We cooked and grilled and enjoyed the stars each evening. Beds were comfortable. The water is very salty from the tap so you definitely wouldn't want to drink it or brush your teeth with it. The bidet was a fun surprise! The "extra" fees are a little high given that you are asked to clean the bathrooms before you leave. We would definitely stay here again!

Had a blast!!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I live on five acres in the Adirondacks of NY state. We enjoy the beauty and wild life year round. It was quite natural for us to rent and enjoy this island home in the warmth of beautiful Homosassa Fla. The weather was fantastic and the people non existent!!!! We fished, swam with the manatee and enjoyed fresh sea food daily. We were able to catch or collect most of these meals ourselves! It is a quiet and comfortable home away from home!! I do love taking a salt water shower so much that I am looking into a machine that will automatically add salt to our home water! Bring the whole family. You will need a boat.
